Anyone use these? Quite cool and nostalgic for that early 2k experience, I suppose.

I mean sure there's loads of alternatives to surpass it, but IMO MSN holds so much nostalgia and had a great UX (pre-Live) and was funky featured a bit like AB

EDIT: If you want to talk to me on Escargot, add me: jamie [guesswhat] cirno [fullstop] tokyo
Using MSN Messenger 7.5 on XP (real hardware) works for me fine.

the only experience i had with AIM was when i was screwing around with a windows 98/XP PC i had 3 years ago. never used MSN messenger in my life.

i may look into this in the future, seems pretty cool.

EDIT: i got AIM to work, but MSN refuses to log me in.

If you're having trouble with MSN in XP, try updating the root certificates in WXP with this tool:

certs.zip

And then disable certificate checking in IE8 options. That should make it work. The reason behind the certs being out of date is because MS have since removed the files that update XP's root certificates (the same files used by Vista), since September 13.

If it still doesn't work, do the POSReady trick, go to catalog.update.microsoft.com, and install the Internet Explorer 8 cumulative security update from 2018-09 for POSReady 2009, and KB4019726, in reverse order of how I wrote. Then edit the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer > AdvancedOptions > CRYPTO) and then go to TLS1.1 and TLS1.2 and delete the OSVersion key. Then enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2 in IE8 settings.

I am super nostalgic for MSN Messenger, and consider chatting on it late into the night with my friends some of my fondest childhood memories. Years ago I used the Messenger Reviver to attempt to relive those happy times, although eventually it stopped working so I figured that was the end of the road. I hadn't heard that there are now alt servers available though, so thank you so much for bringing this to my attention!

I installed MSN Messenger 7.5, and would love to chat with others! Please PM me if you would like to add me!

This is neat. I don't think I actually want to use it, but it makes me feel good that it exists.

I got AIM Phoenix and Escargot accounts, for whatever reason:

AIM: rambly
MSN: rachel@goopy.space

I'm having some difficulty logging onto AIM at the moment -- I'm hoping I'll be able to fix that at some point. Windows 10 does not seem to like AIM at alllll (even with compatibility mode enabled, it freezes my system to the point of unusability, which is... weird), and MSN's not working in my XP VM and I'm wayyyy too lazy to work on those fixes right now. I figured between keeping an XP VM open just for AIM, and not running an entire VM all the time and only having MSN, I'd just pick the latter. At least, for now... that could change.

Oh hey, I have an Escargot too. I use it sometimes. (PM me for the email though. Don't want any unmentionables finding it.)

I would use AIM more, but it crashes my PC every time I use it, so.
