(This is just another attempt to make a better version of this.)

In any case, what's your favorite game(s)? Some information about them would be nice, too, so we don't end up with (sigh) another "What're you playing?" thread nobody takes time to reply to.

In any case, my favorites:

- Link's Awakening.
It's a Zelda game, and arguably the only one not involving Hyrule/Ganon in some way. It's a refreshing change even now, and it brought enough new things to the series back then that it was fresh, new, and fights decently amongst the other games in the series.

- XXXX (Not a real game, but...)
Get the star to 4 in 1! A SMB1 hack with random gameplay. That is, you go to a randomly selected level every time you enter a pipe, and after collecting 4 stars from "X" blocks (which might not have other things), you might go to Bowser's Castle. Beating this game is tedious, frustrating, and in some cases just annoying, but I can't seem to stop playing it on occasion.

There are a few others... unfortunately, I can't really remember them well, but that's why you can add on to posts later

Phoenix Wright (Series) - There are a few things about this that I like. For one thing, it was and is a puzzle as you play it, and figuring out things is fun. The story throughout and the links at the end of the series (#3) also brought it to a close.

Super Mario RPG - This game was one of first real experences with a RPG, and I loved it. I remember getting stuck at the first because Chroco was too strong, then when I realized that leveling is good, I beat up the jerk. It was also the first time I had seen Peach out of a NPC role, it was a shock when she joined the team. (and a shock for the enemy when she got the "Iron Plate")

Paper Mario (Series [Yes Super too]) - Funny, this game series was amazingly funny throughout, it poked fun at the Mario series, it presented puzzles (Ah, boo mansion, what I would not give to be able to play though you again without remembering the answers) and it changed a few things about the traditional RPG system. Cooking was a blast, even more so when I had 10 Special Bombs lined up for final bowser~

Link's Awakening is also on this list... mostly because I think this is the first zelda game I had ever played. I did not have any (s)nes versions of this game, so this was my first experience. I remember being stuck on trying to find the nightmare key in dungeon 2, and trying to figure out the 8 temple. (The pictures also brought a smile to my face, poor link...)

Hmm... I may need to add more if I think of them too...

Diddy Kong Racing. Like Mario Kart 64 but more fun. Great music, battle modes with actual AI (even if it does suck, hey, it's AI), and the tracks are overall better designed. I actually find the "tap A for extra speed" bug makes it more fun for some reason.

Banjo-Kazooie is easily one of the best platformers I've ever played. All sorts of fun things to find and do. Great music again (hey, has a Rare game ever not had great music?), plenty of exploring to do, and pretty funny at times too.

Pokémon G/S are some damn good RPGs. What they manage to pull off with the limited power of the Game Boy is incredible, and the game just seems to go on and on with new places to visit and Pokémon to catch. Overall an extremely well-designed set of games.

Anyways...

Mario Kart DS
Mostly I still like it because of the codes I have. For one half I have Infinite Laps that keeps me and the AI on Lap 1 of 3 and not the pre-lap, so the music speeds up on "Lap 2" instead. I also have a code that directly affects your kart's statistics, including off-road speed type 2, deceleration, and item collision size.

Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis
Ok, so it might be a bit dull to you, but it was a game I highly wanted, and I was not disappointed when I finally found the ROM. The level up keeps your closer to equal, you can train with yourself, and powerup items like Sword Emblems kept me (as in my character) about 10 cuts above everyone else.

Kaizo Mario (OR) Asshole Mario
Do you remember this one? SNES Japanese hack of Super Mario World, but you have to admit, some of the possible deaths have a bit of humor when you find them, and a nice amount of humor when you watch the video. I've cleared One, now it's Lv10 (Or 9, if the Switch Palace doesn't count to you) and a slight jam.

FFIII(NES/Famicom) - I have no idea why, but I love this game to death, I play through it at least once a year, though I stop when I get to the final boss, since I don't want to grind.

FFIX - Best storyline ever, that is all.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - I don't know why people don't like it, the gameplay is unique and fun, and it has an awesome final dungeon.

Megaman X6 - Again, why people don't like it, I don't know, I like it's level design, I must be crazy, huh.

Megaman Legends series - I love it's gameplay mechanics, especially the building and upgrading of weapons, and wish they'd make a third.

Well, I have alot of favorites, so Ill go ahead and go through different genres, and point out my favorite of the Genre.

RPG
Saga Frontier (Everything after the first one, dont waste your time.)

Saga Frontier was an RPG that my friends and I would spend countless hours talking about back when the PS first came out. Sure it got some horriable reviews, (Mainly because people were pussys and thought it was way too hard.) but it was the first in the series to which Squaresoft finally made a game that never had something in common with the Rest: A freaking Challange. In one match, you can win very easily, meanwhile you may fight a monster that will randomly end up finishing your party in one hit.

Adventure / Action
Metal Gear Solid.

All of them. Including the one before Nintendo. Metal Gear, and Metal gear: Snakes Revenge. But out of all the games. Metal Gear Solid 4 makes me wet myself at night, I have high hopes. MGS1 would have to be one of my personal favorites atm.

Puzzle

Puyo Puyo

I just love this game.

First / Third person shooter

This one is where things begin to get seriously complicated. FPS games are not my personal favorites on the list, but its the genre im the best at. I dont like Halo, but I have won tournaments, even was on a state-wide Georgia Commercial promoting a college 5-state Halo 2 League...But I have Two personal favorite FPS games.

1- Tribes 2

Tribes 1 was the first engine I cracked into and made modifications to terrain, tects, and scripts. Especially with many different types of nicks I threw in. But Tribes 2 was where the Construction mod was extremely fun to toy around and spend countless hours doing. I think I used Winamp to have a live radio playing in the background with the Server I helped funded. But the overall Gameplay of Tribes 2 to me was excellent. Not only could you walk on the ground, buy vehicles, and totally pwn. But you can also fly in the air using a jetpack. It was a challanging skill to grasp and master.

2- Unreal Tournament (All of them)

The Unreal Tournament games are on a leage of their own, and the most famous for modifications. Granted I have yet to make a mutator for UT3, I am working on it using the toolset it comes with the actual game (Special Edition). As for the previous ones, It was extremely simple to make a mutator. System.ini was pretty much your best friend if you were not too fond with certain mutator settings.

Overall favorite Game

Metal Gear Solid series.

Seriously. Hideo Kojima is my gaming God when it comes to a wonderful storyline. I can go on forever about this game online and in real life, and my friends call me the Metal Gear Otaku. But just out of a tl;dr warning, let me just say that MGS4 will definately go out with a Bang, and im looking forward to kicking ass with Snake one final time.

My favorite game of all time is still Tokimeki Memorial - Forever with You. I stand by my belief that Konami should translate this series so the rest of the world can enjoy what this fun and addictive series has to offer. Tokimeki Girl's Side was pretty fun too but not my favorite in the series...the original to me is still just the best.

I'm also a total freak for old-school Tetris. It's so simple and addictive.

I'd have to say that my favorite game of all time is Dragon Warrior. Always has been. There's just something about the gameplay that simply attracts me. Whether it's the 1-on-1 battle system, or the fact that dungeons and caves regenerate (I'm talking Mountain Cave runs to accumulate Gold and Experience really fast!). Heck, I've always been infatuated with the concept of a spell called HURT, which simply deals damage without having to worry about elemental properties!

It's always been a really fun game for me.

Banjo-Kazooie - Man, I'd forgotten how fun it was I should try and see if I can find both games on Ebay, emulation doesn't do them justice.

Diddy Kong Racing - The original's great, I find the difficulty was ramped up in the DS version :/

Halo 2 - First FPS that I actually got into.

Super Mario World - I could play it over and over again

Pokemon G/S - They need a remake

Super Mario Galaxy - 3D platforming at it's best

Metroid Prime 3 - first Nintendo FPS I've actually enjoyed.

Link's Awakening and Pokemon G/S have been covered earlier, so I'll mention The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons (both top-notch games for the Game Boy Color) and the Advance Wars series, which can't be beat when it comes to GBA turn-based strategy.

Can't imagine that this series hasn't been said, but...

The Super Smash Bros. Series: These series are the best fighting games I've ever played! It is a lot better that the standard Punch someone until their health runs out and memorizing dozens of move button combinations. Freedom of movement is a lot more satisfying, like the fact that you can actually turn your back on your opponent... My favorite thing about Smash Bros is how there are elements from Nintendo's past scattered all around, like stages for the characters that are all around from different series, items that come from different games and a lot of new things! Master/Crazy Hand, Giga Bowser, Final Destination, Battle Field...

The Smash Bros series has a very good replay value, and Smash Bros Brawl's replay value will be near infinite!

Paper Mario Series: I still remember stealing my dads credit card 6 years ago to buy this game off ebay! I paid him back right away but still got in trouble (for a good reason). The first one was unlike anything I had ever played before! The flat characters, 3D adventure/RPG, Familiar and new enemies, the whole bit! Challenging battles and hard puzzles. The music was also very good. In the second one, the music wasn't as great, but I still found the game very enjoyable. I was a tiny bit disappointed that Bowser wasn't the Main enemy, but The Shadow Queen wasn't bad either. Super Paper Mario... it was ok, but it didn't meet up with the previous games, mainly because they took out the RPG fighting and just had you fight them right as you got to them!

I've got no human opponents to blame for that.

Super Smash Bros. Melee
There hasn't been a game that has held my attention for well over three years. Only other contender would be Stepmania, but that's a different story. Its quick and simplistic batle system makes it to where I can load it up, play a few matches under quick rule settings, then be content. Even if the human players I go against ALWAYS choose Marth, the variety of characters lets me play how I want to play and the rules are very customizable. Plus Bonus is pretty fun.

Stepmania
The freeware music game. Not only can you use custom music with it and make steps to it, you can also customize the look of the game through themes and noteskins and can find many many different user content based around Stepmania, ranging from songpacks alone to stand-alone games and even commercially released games. Even though the prime focus is 4-panel you can find some new modes for it if people program it (so far I found Technomotion and beatmania modes for download) and it comes already with Pump mode, so you can vary it up a lot by either playing the standard song route, set it up like an arcade game (1-7 songs a credit), and even partake in course modes.

Ghost Squad
There is something about rail shooters that make them fun, be it just killing things or memorizing patterns. This one, now ported on the Wii, is a souped-up version of the arcade game, adding in a lot more weapons, costumes, and levels to each of the three missions available. Sure it gets repetitive, but it make a great pick-up-and-play game that takes no time to learn, master, and enjoy, which is why I still play it, both at home and at my arcade.

Disgaea 2
Tactical RPGs need to be deeply customizable, and this one takes that to a new level. In order to get strong you have to abuse everything the game has to offer you. There is an Item World that randomly generates levels using an item as the base, and with every level you clear the stronger the item becomes. The Felony system makes leveling quicker and are really necessary in the post game if you want to get ultra-powerful characters. There is a Dark Assembly which you have to either bribe the senators to vote on bills or you can beat the shit out of them to have the bill pass. The humor is good and once you reach the post game you can spend countless hours getting strong. This is the only RPG game like this where I managed to get more than 100 hours in one save data.

More to come later? Maybe...

Disgaea: Hour/Afternoon of Darkness & Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories
For some reason, Disgaea makes grinding fun. Add humor and an awesome mechanics, and you get WIN. That, and what cpubasic13 said.

Tales of Symphonia
Haven't played in forever, but I've destroyed the game. I've had so much fun with it. I don't know why, but I did (also, the battle system is fun)

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
I always say that's it's better than Ocarina of Time. I don't know why, but I had more fun with it.

Mass Effect (XB360) - Any game that I can play back to back (times 4) is pretty amazing. Great story and depending on how you play the game, it can feel like a different game each time you play. Adepts FTW.

Bioshock (XB360) - I played the demo and instantly fell for this game. Even without a fancy HD TV, the graphics are stunning, excellent music that fits the mood and environment perfectly and a deep down fear of hearing a big daddy walking down the hallway. And the twist!!! Spiffy.

Final Fantasy X (Ps2) - I've been over this several times before, I personally think that is is the best FF game out of all of them. Sure, the voice acting was a bit off, but the overall story and emotion makes up for it for me.

Final Fantasy VI (PsX, GBA) - Kefka. But besides that, characters, great story, music, battle system, sand in boots and so on...

City of Heroes (PC) - Any game that I am willing to pay for each month for 2.5 years has to be great in my book. Sure, it feels like you're doing the same type of mission over and over again, but being able to be a fire blaster that doesn't die all the time and can act like a tank, is a great feeling.

Star Wars KotoR series (PC is better than XBox version) - Sure, the 2nd KoToR wasn't done by Bioware and it was rushed, the series as a whole is amazing. Especially what you find out in the first installment.

Indigo Prophecy (Xbox) - Taking game play to a new level, this game plays more like a movie than anything else. Also, getting to play as the main character and the police who are after the main character makes it that more interesting.

Header with random useless information here.
----------------------------
Kirby's Adventure - I've played this game since ever, and still am obsessed with it. I've beaten it millions of times and know where each pixel is, and still want more. Too bad it has those 7 compressions thing and it's hard to hack, becouse hacking this game would be awesome.

Little Samson - Obscure NES game, but I can't stop playing it for some reason... =/ Recently I heard about a secret hard mode, but I've been playing this game for several years and I have no idea about that.

There are many more... Will edit this post later.

Ω > U
[sighs] Now I'm starting to feel bad for the guy...

Killer Instinct - What can I say? It's not that it's the perfect game in the world or anything but it's just a game that I'm really good at. I've been beat at it sure...but by so few that I could probably count them on my hand. ... ... Okay, hands. I'll be nice.

La Pucelle Tactics / Disgaea - These two go hand-in-hand for a reason. If it had not been for La Pucelle to begin with then I wouldn't have been immersed in the entire spectrum of the ATLUS / NIS game series now taking a stronghold in the States and elsewhere. It's kinda like the start of a new FF, in a sense, except this has far better personality, I think...and most would agree. Had Disgaea not been around to solidify my thought process, I think it might've died out. Put the two of them together and you got a sucker on the line...hook, sinker and all. If nothing else, Tenpei Sato is all about it for me and the music...so there you go.

Tetris Attack - Although I'm out of my prime, I did spend some of my better days of youth bullying the weak in this and eventually getting my ass handed to me when I found out what the Internet really was. Proving myself in the tournament here in 2002 against a very well-known Dani was among other things I got out of gaming and people and the Internet in general with this game. So...I might not be the best at it, but it's been an important thing for me in just more than the game alone. Hey, if anything, I can always kill some time with my best friend over it while talking random stuff for an hour during a fight...and I mean a single round. Here's a (video) of a social round with me and that compy.

Valkyrie Profile 2 - Although I'm sort of disappointed at the first one, I've yet to really give it a chance. This one, however, oh my...If nothing else, this is the reason I know who Motoi Sakuraba is...in this series and other games. The music behind it is something else. Besides that, the gameplay to this is absolutely solid. Definitely something that one will want to pick up if they want an RPG with some class. Sure a few people will diss the graphics for not being the best in the world...but you honestly will have to smack the shit out of the people that say otherwise; for a PS2 they're absolutely gorgeous and the entire game itself has been done exponentially well. A trophy to have on my bookshelf, no doubt.

Stepmania / DDR - Okay...yea...if nothing else I can say that I've sent the greater part of the last three or so years to this game and back. If not in playing millions of rounds on my fingers, thousands of rounds on my feet, and hundreds of rounds in my own development of steps in these things...I really don't know what else to say. This isn't for everyone but it might just be a healthy alternative to sitting around for those of you that aren't afraid of getting up in front of a crowd and... ... ... wait, I'm on a forum of nerds. Nevermind. Well, if you wanna see random arrows fly as part of the game, watch this (video).

Puyo Puyo - No pro, sure, but at least I've had my share of fun with it. It was another game, with TA, that solidified what I knew in the puzzle aspect of the world. I don't know everything about it, for sure, but I'm a mean player more than a social usual. Try looking at this (video) for details.

---

Okay okay...now for the not so known...

---

Magical Drop III - Now if I actually had a decent connection to the internet, this would be the first game I would take out and rip people apart with. The only problem I would have is if the person was that good back. It's like trying to play Kirby's Avalanche (or the original Puyo)...if both of the users drop a bomb on each others, there's barely any counters or none at all. Oh well...still a fun game regardless.

Ranma Nibunnoichi: Chougi Ranbu Hen - Made a failed TAS for entertainment to this and it's to a series of anime that, for the life of me, I could never let go. If nothing else, I could always kick anyone's arse with Ryouga in this. Not the best fighter in the world, but certainly not the worst.

Ranma Nibunnoichi: Ougijyaanken - Rock-Paper-Scissors...to the extreeeeeeeme. It kinda plays like Puyo but it doesn't. There's a lot of skill that rides behind this game and more than I've seen in most of the small-time games. Since this one didn't make it state-side...I don't expect anyone will actually take a look at it. But if you're looking for a puzzle game for yourself and are in dire need of something new...look no further.

Yuu Yuu Hakusho: Tokubetsuhen - Oh. Man. I can't believe how many people have passed this game up once I've introduced them to it. If you're interested in Pokemon but without all that four-move crap and leveling up, then this might be up your alley. It's a fighter, but in a cinematic sense and without all the memorization of moves and what have you...well at least the harder ones. The basic thing in this game is you hold down a direction button for what you want, wait for the gauge (accuracy) to climb, and then press a corresponding button while holding the direction button you pressed (A, B, X, or Y) and...wallah...you made a move. Put this over minutes of time kicking another person who's doing the same thing to you...in real time...and you'll get an idea of what this game's like. Take a look at this (video) for more details.

That's about all for now. I have more, of course...

There's tons I could put in here, so I'll just put a few of my select favourites.

Tyrian (DOS)
You might have seen my rampant fanboyism on the Tyrian topic, but here it is again. One of the greatest vertical shooters of the '90s and one of my favourite games of all time. I still have the original CD that Tyrian 2.0 came on when I got it, way back in 1995/96. I always enjoyed it more than Raptor, too.

Deus Ex (PC/Mac)
Action meets RPG meets FPS meets political intrigue. One of the few games I've ever played that I would consider to have a plot, as opposed to a storyline. An enjoyable game that I can play over and over again just to enjoy the story through once more or play the game with a different ideal in mind. Choices, ending, exploring. If you've never played this game you've missed out.

Advance Wars 1/2/DS (GBA/GBA/DS)
Yeah, I'm lumping all three together. The ultimate in cute turn-based wargames. My personal pet hacking projects, balance debate sources and the like. I love these games so much that I personally run two websites dedicated to them in some way. ;

Escape Velocity Series (Mac)
The classic of space privateering. Those of you without Macs back in the day missed out until EVN. But there's nothing like a game of space trading, combat, fleet battles and universal domination with a healthy side of incredibly mod-friendlyness.

Total Annihilation (PC/Mac)
Ye olde giant robot wars. In my mind the game that deserves the title of most awesome RTS...a game where being able to click ten thousand times a second isn't generally as important as orchestrating an economy and a war. I love it.

Lemmings (Just about anything)
The original, the ultimate mind bending hair tearing puzzle game about some suicidal blue rodent-things and your quest to save them from their own stupidity. A gem for all time.

Yeah, you are. Don't get me wrong, I liked that one too. I love the bosses, and music. The levels just freakin' sucked.

For me:

Everything Megaman.
Classic is classic. X series is gold. Zero series is awesome. Battle Network...eh...it's okay. Legends is one of my most favorite games ever, it was amazing.

Final Fantasy Tactics.
Too much fun with this one.

Legend of Zelda: OoT.
Big surprise.

Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Hours of smashing fun for this one. I've played other fighting games for long periods of time, but this one I had lots of fun on my own and even more with others. Other fighting games like those made by Capcom and SNK I didn't get many Human opponents because no one likes those games. =/

Memory Block. I can't remember any others. Will update, maybe.
