Pachi-Com on NES.... Who the hell do you think is going to play this, with its boring bonus stage and the balls that get stuck? If you use SELECT to put the JOY right, that'll make it +1, you idiot! You're a sound company; quit ignoring pachinko sounds and trying to put these weird sounds in instead! Do you WANT it to be this hard to hear the balls?! I've left the PREVIOUS sounds, so edit this if you want to hear it. Set hex address AFFC to 1FAF and AFC4 to E0EE to get decent sounds. (Tiger_V & Kugi) Company "T", you idiots! GOU, you fool! Anyone can tell you what good sound is!

Fester's Quest. Complete fucking garbage.
It will suck out whatever appreciation you may have had for the Addam's Family, and then regurgitate it in your face.

My favorite part about Fester's Quest is that the guns all suck and the game has the audacity to give you power downs. My favorite feature.

The PAL version of Fester's Quest at least had the courtesy to make guns shoot through walls. It's still a slog of a game regardless, because if/when you die, you're making a long trip back from the start.

Sure would have made the game suck a chunk less if they had fixed the issue of guns not sucking liked they did with the PAL release. Why did the PAL nations get all the really cool Sunsoft stuff?

Furthermore... and this isn't really trashing Fester's Quest as a game so much, but I am really curious why they took such a weird twist on an IP that was, at the time, kind of obscure to the average gamer. It predated the Addams Family movie by a few years, and I had never even seen any TV stations at the time rerun the old TV series. But they really tried to make this a thing, as I recall TV ads aired aimed at a young audience that assumed the viewer knew who the hell Fester was. Something like Gilligan's Island (also an NES game that sucks) I get, as that could potentially sell on recognition alone since there was no shortage of TV stations that ran reruns of the show via syndication, so yes, that one gets a pass since the average kid at the time knew who Gilligan and the Skipper were. But I'm still puzzled as to why this game was based not only on a dormant IP, but a specific character from said dormant IP. I really want to know what they were thinking with that decision.

There were quite a few weird games based on the Addams Family IP, but at least one of them came out decent.

Were there any predating FQ? Because I can't seem to find anything other than the Ocean games (based on either the movies or the cartoon that aired around that time), and one on GameBoy Color based on a short-lived "new" Addams show from the late 90's. I could see the IP being used for something like a PC game in the 80's, since the demographic back then actually consisted of consumers familiar with the Addams Family.

X, which one was the one that came out decent? I've only played FQ and the first SNES game (which wasn't great, but not shit-tier like FQ.)

I think that would be the first SNES one? It's not great, but it's a pretty good game at the very least, with a lot of little goofy secrets.

i played Home Alone 2 in the same period of time except i spent way less time on it than Action 52

if we're talking about Where's Waldo can we talk about The Great Waldo Search? it's not NES-exclusive, but it had a port, so it kinda counts. it's almost as bad, maybe even worse. it seriously has like maybe 15 minutes of gameplay total, and it's also one of the ugliest games i have ever played (the SNES version illustrates this better than the NES one does)

Does anyone remember the Rocky and Bullwinkle, The Terminator and Wayne's World games for the NES? All three used the same exact game engine, and not surprisingly, all three of them were awful. Or the Last Action Hero game on the same system?

It shows how little effort went into a majority of licensed games at the time.

I haven't played it, but I recall seeing a review in Nintendo Power for the NES Rocky & Bullwinkle that said it was a rental-exclusive title (apparently not Blockbuster exclusive because I saw it at an independent video rental store that I went to instead.) I wonder if they knew it wasn't going to be a big seller, not that THQ was know for publishing quality games, but it was right around the time that the NES was starting to die down.

Anyways, I may be alone in this, but Jordan Vs. Bird... yeah, I'll admit I'm not a sports fan, but that has to be one of the most dull sports games I've ever played. I don't admit to being a professional gamer, especially not when it comes to sports titles, but the computer is really dumb if you're playing Jordan. MAYBE someone could find enjoyment in this game if they had someone to play with, but everything else about it is just dull.

Huh, I never noticed that. That's quite interesting to know about Rocky & Bullwinkle.

Now I feel like I need to go actually look at this, because the fact any game would share any code with that steaming pile of garbage is... well.

I mean I wouldn't be too surprised, but still.

Anyone remember or played the Game Boy version of Gremlins 2? Unlike the NES game, it's unfortunately not very good because it has a bit of cheap mechanics. The last level has a jump that is nigh impossible to make because it requires a precise jump. After that level, you fight the final boss, who is badly designed gameplay wise.

Kinda fitting to cap off an unremarkable game with an awful final level.

I didn't think the NES game was all that great, either.

As a side note, did the con panel this thread was originally made for already happen or what? I assume so.

Not yet. I've been meaning to update on this but my job has been kicking my ass. I also haven't gotten much started on it at all.

It might help if all my panels for Anime Boston weren't waitlisted, but meeeehhhhhhh. Still got a couple weeks to go, so I'm gonna work on them anyway until I can take a break and not work on them and have them ready for another con.

I was at my local 'used games/movies/music/books' place recently and picked up King's Knight, Defender of the Crown, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. After getting them home and playing them, I started to regret that decision.

There was Heroes of the Lance and Hydlide, both on the NES, which both were really bad RPGs. Hydlide had button-mashing as its main form of combat. Heroes of the Lance was an unmitigated mess where if the healing character died, the game was pretty much like "you're not completing this game, tough shit."

Sorry if this thread's old, I just recently played really bad games on that system.
