I should really buy another dash cam. The last one I had kinda took a crap on me last September and I haven't bothered to get a new one.

I did get a Pixel 2 XL, though, for better or worse; my old Nexus 6P is kicking the bucket and only lasts for about 15 minutes of use on a full charge I would have just gone with the normal Pixel 2 but between the Fi credit and trade-in of my current phone it worked out to be a little cheaper.

I haven't finished setting it up yet.

I also got a data-only SIM for my old iPhone 5S, which is somehow still in good shape ... with the SIM card I can use it for some out-of-the-house bullshit, since it has a really nice calculator for when we go grocery shopping.

hell yeah pixel 2!!!

i have the standard 5" and while the price kinda killed me and hurt, god damn it's a nice phone. slick as fuck, nearly stock android OS, even faster fingerprint sensor plus gestures

also the fabric case makes it look real nice. was afraid of the bezel looking huge, but it turns out it's taolly fine in person.

hoping i can make it last 2+ years and not stupidly break it like my pixel 1...

I borrowed a home energy audit toolkit from the library! I know it's not *mine* but for 7 days it is very interesting.

Also the laser thermometer is fun.

ah yeah, the fabric case looks pretty neat. guess i'll get one of those too, since i like having a case on phones; they feel way too light otherwise.

I got maybe too much music yesterday...

*King Gizzard And The Wizard Lizard - I'm In Your Mind Fuzz
*King Gizzard And The Wizard Lizard + Mild High Club - Sketches Of Brunswick East
*Japan - Tin Drum
*Pendulum - In Silico
*Kraftwerk - Autobahn

At least I'm done with stuff for a bit.

Kraftwerk! More krautrock is always a good idea.

In my case, a cheap ($7 or so?) FX2LP-based logic analyzer. The crimp job on the jumpers is so overzealous I've had to throw half of them out, but the thing works pretty well otherwise, and the sigrok driver seems mature enough. Once I get some decent jumpers and clips, I'm sure it'll save me headache next time I have to use I2C for something.

Also got an Orangepi PC2 (allwinner-based single board computer) coming, but the jury's out on that.

I caved and bought an arcade stick, specifically a Qanba Obsidian when it was on sale for Combo Breaker. Despite me being way out of practice I've been having fun using it.

βWe have a chin-up bar now!

Then arose the question of whether we had a drill to drill the holes in the door frame to mount it with.

Hmf. I guess that's going to be a thing at some point…

Oh neat! I've always wanted a floppy camera. They had one at a thrift store here a few months ago, but in unfortunately didn't come with it's proprietary battery charger.

I got a new car! 2017 Ford Fiesta. Took it out with my parents to go see my gran, and I'm very happy with it! Very forgiving at low revs, so I can use less fuel without feeling like I'm going to stall. Also, 6 forward gears instead of the normal 5, so I can hit higher speeds at lower revs. Should really improve the mpg!

I had bought a GeForce 750 Ti earlier this year, but I wasn't able to use it to it's full extent because my PSU was a generic 200W one that just didn't have enough energy to power it. After a couple of random crashes and shutdowns, I ordered an EVGA 500B which arrived yesterday and now it seems to be running perfectly!

It feels really out of place in this generic case I have for this computer. I could buy a new case, but it's better for me to wait a while. Another thing is, this computer is a lot more silent now. I never knew that it was the PSU making all that noise!

With music the last stuff I got where a second-hand copy of Franz Ferdinand's first album, Year Of No Light - Tocsin and Shores Of Null - Quiescence. The last two were bought blind, but they're quite nice.

I also got a watercolour thingy of my bat and that's hanging finally today. I really need to learn to set up an image host though. Would like to show photos of this stuff on here...

Cute little metal-case unmanaged ethernet switch (netgear GS105). And a TM4C123 evaluation board, for a very stupid reason. I'll probably never use it after this year...

I forgot to mention, a few weeks ago I got a Nintendo Switch!

I only have three games for it right now, those being Celeste, Minecraft, and Breath of the Wild.

Well, I went to the baby shop again, which was fun, because my debit card is now weeping.

The boy's outgrown some stuff, of course, the most expensive stuff--baby sleeping bags. So I had to get two different ones with different TOG ratings to account for the change of the season.

I also bought him a hat, because he's outgrown all the hats from when the weather was warm. The hat is not for wearing. No no, don't be *silly*, mummy. The hat is covered in cars and trucks, so the hat is for pointing at and saying GAR and BRRRM BRRRM and TUK, but NEVER EVER EVER FOR WEARING. STOP TRYING TO PUT IT ON, MUMMY.

I got a very cute dog-shaped thermal lunch bag to keep all his food cold (or warm).

I also got him his very first cutlery, and he has no idea how to use it, but he's extremely enchanted by it. I might cut up some ZHEEEEeeeeeEEEEZ for him to eat (cheese) and try to stab with the fork.

EDIT: cute is what happened with the fork
EDIT2: HOLY SHIT I DID NOT EXPECT HIM TO FIGURE THAT OUT THAT FAST

Is "no aesthetic at all" still an aesthetic?

Anyway:

Having 4 people and about 10 computers in an apartment, you'd think we'd have one of these already, but nope. This one seems to have been about $150 cheaper than I could find it online, so it was quite the steal. Came with 2 4TB drives and has room for another two.

Good place to put backups, too.
