There was a phase where I'd indulge every once in a while (once or twice a week I guess) but I've pretty much gotten past it, I guess.

It pretty much just leads to me falling asleep and not really doing anything that night half the time anyway, so what's the point

I had two glasses of red wine last night, and they were very nice. I thought they'd go nicely with dinner (they did). I wanted to have more, because it was so lovely, but I'm still a nursing mother and that's my limit, no matter how delicious the wine is.

I agree that alcohol can be very dangerous, btw. Like, there's a lot of really shitty stuff that happens because people abuse alcohol, because they binge drink, because people develop alcoholism. There is a lot of violence on Saturday nights because people get drunk and fighty. There are car accidents. There are people who hide in cupboards and drink in secret. There's fetal alcohol syndrome. There's a lot of bad shit associated with alcohol and I totally understand people being down on it.

Oh, right, wine. I think having a (small) glass of wine is probably the least offensive way to have alcohol, and I've had that myself a few times (but again, over 11 years ago now; don't tell anyone )

But that particular thing has been spoiled for me by people who very much abused that concept

Over here in the Netherlands it used to be legal to drink at 16 up until a few years ago (18, nowadays) and I started a year earlier than that; honestly, I feel 16 is a pretty good lower limit, though the culture around the whole thing absolutely matters as well.

At the end of the day though... alcohol is a drug (however socially accepted), and like anything else that alters your state of mind it requires responsible usage, more than anything else. If you can't trust yourself to stop or take measures to make yourself stop once you've had enough, don't, basically.

... of course, being partial to drinking straight up vodka, I maaaay not be the best example of that myself either.

Usually if I'm going to drink something neat it'll be soju. I do love me some of that Korean bathroom cleaner.

This makes me sad for you, and angry at whoever abused that concept.

I dunno, to me good food, good wine, and good company are one of life's great little pleasures. Not for the alcohol itself, but for the pairing of flavours and smells, the way it elevates both the meal and the drink. The act of sharing both the wine and the food with friends or family, of enjoying their enjoyment as well as yours, the lively conversation. I'm sorry that someone abused that whole idea.

My inner gourmet loves the way you put that, Tarale. I feel the same way, especially when I'm marrying into a family of Italians.

Still, that's as far as I go as alcohol is concerned. Let's just say family history outlaws the hard stuff.

I don’t think beer tastes all that. But I’d like to have wine or champagne sometime. Yeah.

Beer can be alright. I'm enjoying the whole craft beer thing, when I get to dabble in it. Sadly it seems nearly every brewer seems to be going HOW ABOUT AN IPA WITH LOTS OF HOPS which is getting boring.

Well, I've basically given up drinking these days. Still nursing (can be a thing that goes on for years). I am not sure I miss it that much. I'd still have a glass of wine with a meal if it were offered, and I'm sure that'll make me want more, but when you don't drink you don't want to drink either…

I went from refusing to drink completely for many years to actually letting myself have a go at it. Enjoyed it a few times, didn't enjoy it a few times. Definitely needs to be the right company and place; I don't like drinking in a pub, I need to move myself. In any case, it mostly seems to make me sick whenever I try nowadays. Well, whatever, there's better and safer things (as far as drugs go).

One thing that should be known about me.

Beer at <6%? Baby beer

Vodka at 20%? Baby vodka

I don't drink much, since it does mess with depression symptoms something harsh if I drink every day for two or three days, but when I do it's like my inner Pole will not accept anything light in relation to how much certain drinks can contain. Just fuck me up fam.

Except wine. Wine stays classy.

I have received a small amount of money and I thought I might buy myself a little bit of wine with it.
