Quite a bit of people in here are looking forward to Wargroove, to the point where I'm curious on trying out Advance Wars. I may give it a shot if Advance Wars goes well.

Yes play Advance Wars it is a beautiful spot of goodness in this world. I recently ordered a CIB copy of Advance Wars 1 on eBay and I am very excited to finally replay the first one (as well as completing that particular collection).

Also it's a little silly but the other game I'm most looking forward to is Tropical Freeze on Switch. Mind you this is a game I own on Wii U, have played through countless times, and have fully completed in every conceivable way.

But now it's on Switch and that's important

I am a living repository of Advance Wars information, so feel free to ask me any time if you need help or get stuck or w/e.

I would honestly recommend playing Advance wars 2 over the first one when starting. The first game has it's charm but... it's a bit rough around the edges, especially how it handles fog of war AI. (Something that the series didn't even nail until DoR).

AW1 and AW2 fog of war AI is almost byte for byte identical - the AI FoW mechanics didn't change until AWDS.

I personally think AW1 is the best start simply because of the very comprehensive tutorial mode that actually teaches you the basics of tactical play, which is something that is sorely lacking in the other three titles. AW1 certainly is a bit rougher in some ways but it's the ideal entry point for newcomers.

Is it? I certainly didn't feel it was as big as a problem in AW2 though? hrmmm, maybe that comes down to the map design. It's mainly the green earth maps that suck with fog of war in AW. :V

The tutorial in AW1 is pretty fully featured, but it's also very slow and drags on, I could see people getting bored with the game. Later games baked teaching the games mechanics into the campaign, to various degrees of success. Both the DS games did a pretty good job with it if you ask me but idk, it's easier to emulate the GBA games.

Far Cry 5 drops very soon, and I'm looking forward to that! The remaster for Assassin's Creed Rogue is out Tuesday, which worked out really well, since it's one of the few AC games I still don't have. Then, come May, Hyrule Warriors hits Switch with ALL of the Wii U and 3DS content, which I am SO excited for! Then finally, probably Luigi's Mansion 3DS. So, 3 remakes/remasters/rereleases, and Far Cry 5.

Oh yeah, the new Yoshi game made in Unreal Engine should hit the Switch this year, too!

I don't really look into what new stuff comes out much, and this is probably not going to be out in 2018 but I'm somewhat interested in Spire. Not excited, but interested.

It has been in development since January 2013 and updates have been sporadic (last one a year ago) but the art style is great and it's made by the people who made Dustforce which is amazing.

Now that I'm on that, how is UFO Extraterrestrials 2 doing? I'm guessing that's dead these days.

I've been trying NOT to buy too many video games this year to clear up some stuff in my backlog, but I'll admit, there's a few things on the horizon I'm looking forward to...

So I've never even touched a WiiU. Avoided buying one like the plague because, well, Nintendo had done messed up getting third party support for it and even marketing the damn thing. But Hyrule Warriors looked like a really nice spin on the Musou formula... so as soon as I could, I preordered it after a Switch port was announced. Right now, that's the one I'm really looking forward to.

Dragon Quest XI interests me, but I'm not sure if I want to buy it Day 1 on PS4, or just wait on that promised Switch port that has no release date. Unless it's a game that actually requires a lot of graphical horsepower, I tend to default for a Switch version when available, just so I can play it when the TV isn't available to me. After playing the DQ Builders demo on Switch, I regret buying it on PS4, but not enough to throw down money on a game I already own.

I'm on the fence about MegaMan 11, but I'll probably cave and get it at some point, especially if they do more with the old formula than just give it a modern facelift. Honestly, I haven't been crazy over any MegaMan game since MMX1. MegaMan 8 was... okay I guess, I finished it over a weekend rental. I wasn't a fan of MM9 or MM10 (playing as ProtoMan was nowhere near as cool as it was in my head in 1990), but I'll be keeping my eye out to see if this makes up for those lazy attempts at a new mainline game. Asking for it to make up for Capcom killing MML3 is setting up an impossible bar.

If Switch physical releases for Stardew Valley or Cosmic Star Heroine (which still hasn't been officially announced for Switch at all, though I know Robert Boyd really wants it to happen at least digitally) actually happen this year, I will be snatching the hell out of those.

(+) Oh dear. I hear there's going to be a Spyro remake. I feel like this may be a highly desirable thing. c..c
