Not quite the same thing, but to motivate myself to do things when I'm feeling lazy I'll often countdown from 5, ideally in an effort to actually do the thing once I reach 1... sometimes it works

I do that all the time. Or when I'm going through twitter, I mentally count down the number of tweets I'm willing to look at, and reset it whenever I find something good.

I rarely see intersections like that around here, unfortunately. Sometimes I see ones with some dots beside the signal, which display how much time is remaining in fifths, like when it has 4/5ths of time remaining it displays four dots, with 3/5ths it displays 3 dots, things like that. Or was it six dots in total? I don't remember.

Instead of keeping an exact counter, I mainly just go for "about this many tweets" and stop, without ever defining an exact number. It's weird because, now that I think about it, even in situations where it would be better to count, I just don't.

oh i do this..! i noticed i picked up the habit when im trying to focus of keeping 1/4 musical time. if i am really stressed i will keep 1/3 time too. i chalked it up to OCD since i have other habits like this. i also find myself habitually taking a 3rd position stance, so that must come from my childhood dance and chorus lessons being drilled into my brain. :p how musical!

Eh, that time signature is a little wonky. As a general rule musicians will use whatever's simplest or easiest to read or understand. So, it wouldn't be 29/8, it's three measures of 7/8 followed by a simple 4/4. This does add up to 29 eighth notes per phrase, but it would be terrible to try to read it all as one measure. It's much simpler to split it into four measures with simpler values.

General rule in music, you use whatever is the easiest or most logical way to notate something. If a measure has 16 16th notes, it's a 4/4 measure most of the time, even though you *could* in theory label it as 8/8, 2/2, or 16/16. 4/4 is easier to read at most speeds. 2/2 might be used if it's a faster piece for easier reading. If there's 29 notes in a phrase but you can section them into normal, logical measures, then that's what you'd do.

In other words, March of the Pigs is no more in 29/8 than you would call Dream Theater's The Dance of Eternity a piece written in 1032/16. Go with what's simplest.

Similarly, Breath of the Wild's Hyrule Castle is mostly 5/4, except for certain measure in the main melody which are 6/4.

But yeah, I count music notes a lot, it's a byproduct of years of music performance for me.

Regarding legitimately sick as fuck time signatures, the Ganondorf battle theme from OoT has a 23/16 time signature, with occasional 17/16 stuff to mix things up.
