I assume most of that is because it went from something you wanted to do to something you were now obligated to do.

Doing it for yourself -> The reward is for you, and it is a clean room
Doing it by request -> It isn't your own task, nor your own reward

Not that I disagree, I had the same thing happen to myself. It's just frustrating.

This happens with me as well, doing something by request or as an obligation doesn't feel the same because it's something you were expected to do in the first place. Like, if I was to compare it to some arbitrary point system, previously doing task A was +1 and not doing it was +0, but suddenly doing it is now +0 and not doing it is now -1, and it only gets worse from there...

Kinda why I prefer living on my own, since I can be comfy just having things on an acceptable level without anyone else judging me or being bothered.

Can relate.

Back when I lived in the shithole, it took a while for mom to leave me alone in that regard. Her typical excuse being "if I don't do it you will never do it!".

Oh god I used to have people spontaneously cleaning my room a lot too. Granted my room was a fucking trash pit when i was a kid, but I got better somewhat. The reason I hated it was more the invasion of privacy and the fact that when stuff was put away by someone else, I had no clue where it would go. No one ever believed me that my room was organized chaos.

Though with my full time job being VERY physical and me having about as much get up and go as a slug, the chores do kinda tend to pile up. I can get myself to do them most of the time, but it's just such a struggle when you're psychically and mentally exhausted.

I just recently finished having my room fully cleaned for the first time in two years. Gonna spend time picking up stuff tomorrow after I wake up.

I'm ignoring housework as I write this. Cucumber, cherry tomatoes, carrot, and bread litter the area under the high chair and I'm just… putting my feet up.

But I haven't put my feet up all day, so… meh. I'll get to it soon.

My flat is a bit of a mess but it's just so hard to stay on top of cleaning/tidying... I have a lot of issues motivating myself to do things and I have to prioritise school/work tasks over it.

I built a new computer a couple of weeks ago and I've still got the boxes for the components on my floor -- I need to separate them and recycle/toss the stuff but I keep on thinking "well what if I need this later for some reason?".

I've also got a lot of random stuff on shelves above my desk that I just don't know how to organise. Small items pile up surprisingly quickly -- Switch game cases, tablet, DS, 3DS, stapler, two online banking 2FA devices, flash drives, lots of other things like this. I've never managed to find a reasonable organisation strategy for this, and inevitably everything slowly collects dust if I don't touch it for a bit

I am kinda like a cleaning-beserker.

I just flip out and rampage the house to cleanliness once I grow tired of the sorry state it's in. I mean, I work in a home cleaning products shop with my father, so uh, that helps bring out my weirdness about it.

I can deal with clutter, but I absolutely loathe things being on the floor where I might step on/into/through them.

I may have spent about 20 hours this week cleaning the house finally lifting the christmas mess from our house.

Today I decided, out of nowhere, to clean out the incredible amount of dust on the blades of the fan I use. Cleaning it requires removing the cover and then later putting it back on, which is more annoying than it sounds because the stupid things that hold the cover are difficult to open/close.

The dust wasn't that bad to remove other than a few particular spots where it was stuck. Now it almost looks new again! I'm not sure why it became so dusty, and I'm surprised that simply turning it on and letting it ventilate didn't actually remove any of it before.

Of course there's still more cleaning that I should be doing I guess...argh. This is good enough for now.

This.

Turns out that having spare boxes and packaging/padding material is quite useful when you're ebaying shit. Avoids paying for a box at the post office.

Mom is the opposite of me, in that anything that is not immediately useful is thrown away. glarg. You can see why I hated having her go through my shit.

Like that time ages ago, where I was busy building something in my room with cardboard and tape and whatever. Took a restroom break and obviously let the scissors on the floor where I was working, because I wasn't done. Came back to find out the scissors had been put away.

<mom> oh yeah I put your scissors away, you had left them on the floor.
<me> but I was using them to build something
<mom> [I cannot admit being wrong so I will pretend you're lying]

I had a fire/appliances inspection today so I spent most of the week thus far after work cleaning my apartment! This has been a fascinating experience

Considering I'm still able to post from work they didn't seem to care about the totally-not-a-datacentre in my hall closet.

KawaiiImoto-e
the cute princess

Let's have a good time together!

Cleaning is one thing, putting stuff away the other.

After I finish playing with a game or not permanent systems in the living room, I put those away real quick, as I have a walk-in closed for such things.

It turns out, the part of the living room I maintain, and that walk in closed are the most cleaned up part of the house. My GF is the master of the kitchen, and the upper floor is her domain.

My computer room though, that is surely the most chaotic room in the entire appartement. Really need to clean that up again.

And there are still some boxes in front of the game storage unit which need the contents put away.

And I finally did some new shelfing in the cellar, to better store my TV "collection" ^^

I'm not very good at putting some things away either. Usually new things, that are yet to have proper "homes" in the house, important paperwork I need to do something with (but haven't done yet), cookbooks, and art materials, all wind up out forever and ever.

At the moment I should be putting baby toys away but I can't be fucked doing that either right now. Doesn't help that they WILL be everywhere again tomorrow.
