So uh...I guess now's a good time as any to dust (ha ha) off this account I've had since like, '08, and hadn't done jack with. To be frank, it feels weird to me to post on a message bored these days, and I decided to pop in, since it was the hip thing to do (read: i saw rachel plug this place and i decided to bite).

Anyway, hello, I'm Dustminion. Some of you may already know me (namely Shadic, Rambly, and Bloodstar), but for those who don't...I'm just some guy.

e: alright to be a little more in-depth

I met Shadic in '03 on the forums of an old sprite comic called Link and Friends. Comic site petered out as people lost interest (around '08) and the two main writers decided to be dicks (shads can probably expound on that). Also, despite having known him for 15 years, these later years I hadn't talked to him because I'm terrible at keeping in touch.

As for Rambly and Bloodstar, I met them at the tail end of '03 on PureZC (a place that we all left and never really looked back). For basically most of the early days I've known them, we were part of another community run by another friend of ours called Exalted Legion (place had many ups and downs). After EL died (the sixth or seventh time, i lost count), we mainly just talk on Discord or Twitter.

Nowadays, I just do whatever. I recently got into randomizers, namely the LTTP randomizer, even though that rando's logic is unyielding in its rudeness to me (hookshot on the pedestal, i'm not owned). I also sometimes do races with some other people in Smight's Discord server...when I'm able to.

...that's pretty much the long and short of it. Hiya.

that other friend of ours who ran Exalted Legion is Exate, who used to be a semi-frequent poster here (and fairly frequent IRC user). if you couldn't tell by the Photobucket layout and last active date, he doesn't really come here anymore and i dunno if he will, he's busy these days

it really, really does. social media's molded all our brains in weird ways, but re-adapting to a message board format has been surprisingly easy and really fun for me

Honestly, there's still a part of me that misses message boards, since they helped shape me into who I am (barring the weird...phases I was going through). They were a big part of my teenage years, and I do love a good nostalgia trip.

Hi,
I am a long time friend of Sanqui and I have been circling around doing stuff related to old videogames and technology for a long time now. I am colleging programming, which teaches me a lot, as I was always more of a history/theory guy, than actually poking into technical stuff.
I started a local retrogaming museum project - RetroHerna. I am interested in news in emulation and game archival/preservation, game design and theory, history and evolution of gaming and technology and similar topics. Otherwise I am a long time participant in the Star Wars and Pokémon fandoms, mainly locally at meetings.
Recently I am trying to discover life more, try traveling, making art, being less tied to computers and more to people and real life experiences.

...Or to be more specific, I used to be around here a long while back, before eventually popping off for a while. Was kinda active. Probably active. certainly don't look active anymore.
I'm no expert in anything; there's not a lot of things I really managed to get proficient in. And what I did get proficient at? Well... ...games. That's about all there is to it. So I don't have a lot in skill. Still though, if there's a resurgence to be had then, well, why not try to be part of it? Or at least see what one can do about reliving the past. Sometimes that's just what you gotta do, right?

Hi! I'm Ninji (though a bunch of people here might recognise me better by my old username, Treeki). 23 years old, some kinda internet dog person, living in Glasgow, Scotland.

A brief history of my time here:
- Joined Acmlm's Board (i3) under an even older username which I shall not speak of
- Re-joined in 2007 when it was Acmlm's Board II and I'd actually matured enough to not be a complete fuckwad
- Migrated over to Jul shortly after it started
- Was pretty active on the board and IRC (mostly the latter) for some time, eventually kinda faded out around 2015-ish when I began using IRC less regularly

Here are some things I like, in no particular order:

- Software dev: I'm in the 2nd year of a computer science degree at Strathclyde University, and I'm also currently lead programmer for Furcadia (a 2D furry MMO)

- Game hacking: I don't get to do as much of this as I'd like due to time constraints, but I was heavily involved in hacking for the New Super Mario Bros. series (DS and Wii), and part of the team that made probably one of the most involved game hacks ever

- Reverse-engineering: Ties into the above -- I'm pretty good with PowerPC assembly (sadly a dying skill these days), so-so with ARM and x86

- UI/UX design: Having spent 19 years of my life using software of various kinds, I've become somewhat passionate about bad design and about trying to make things less awful for people to use

- Writing lists: Usually with a short title for each entry, and then a longer description afterwards

- Utility cycling: I'm hesitant to consider myself a 'cyclist' because I don't really know anything about bikes, I just have one that I use as my main mode of transport -- my finest accomplishment was making a ~*serious cyclist*~ I know go "how the fuck did you manage to ride [from Glasgow to Edinburgh (~50 miles)] on that"

- Shopping centres/hypermarkets: I have a weird fascination with exploring these, especially in foreign countries. One of my favourite things about going to Leipzig in Germany was getting to spend a while wandering around Globus (Walmart/Carrefour-like hypermarket) and the various shopping centres and seeing all the new, unfamiliar brands and stuff

- Public transport nerdery: I don't care much for the actual vehicles, but I'm fascinated by things like ticketing systems. I have a small collection of tickets for different places I've been to

- Graphic design/image editing: I like making silly things that make people groan, usually just one-off posts on Twitter/Telegram or Telegram sticker packs (the latter is actually a really good medium for this)

- Terrible jokes: Kinda ties into the above. But also in non-image form :v

- Old technology: I have a netbook running Windows 98 SE (not very practical these days, but it was fun to weird out people at university by bringing it in and connecting it to the unprotected wifi network -- WPA2 on 98SE is almost impossible). I've also been working on a redesign of my website in 90s-web-design style that I've been meaning to finish for a while but keep on getting distracted from

Oh, I have never heard of this before, actually. The art style and perspective seems a bit similar to other early MMOs like Tibia. Is it any good?

I'm always super nostalgic for Tibia since I messed around in it a lot when I was younger. But I don't actually enjoy it when I start playing it, since there is a lot of stuff that is just really bad about that game. (Losing EXP/Levels on death, boring huge empty world, etc). I usually just end up playing through the tutorial island and then sort of stopping once I'm off it, because the game just drops in quality so much after the tutorial. :v
