Multi-quoting would be useful.

The ability to delete PM's after they've become irrelevant would also be a useful feature.
I was going to try cleaning my PM's a while back, and then realized it cannot be done.

I also have a hard time finding certain things (or re-finding them) because there's no search feature

Those are just a few 'minor' suggestions

Had I seen this sooner, I would have said "A search bar."
But it's too late. Anyway, if there was some way to actually apply the rpg thing to some kind of game. Remember those first Zelda games that didn't even have graphics? They were more like multiple-route books on tape, or rpg games with no graphics. It would be just as geeky.

The benefit, Xkeeper, would be that in order to progress, one must make posts, which should keep the place active. I might also project that it should keep people around longer. Currently I'm the most active user...

Multiquote would be useful!

Essentially, a tickbox on the post's header next to the regular quote link. When you hit reply, the reply box is pre-populated with quote info for each marked post in that thread, and the marks are cleared.

I'd also really like to see more things labeled in the source so more extensive layout hacking can be done, like moving sidebars to be between posts instead of along the side (and I'd like a mobile skin that optimizes for best use of horizontal space, including such things as vertical sidebars and a redesigned reply window)

imo, there should be a layout sandbox or something. i have to make all my layouts off-site to really find out whether it’s working and it’s easy to lose the code if i don’t have an off-site backup. i feel like we should be able to do something other than dump a bunch of HTML into a tiny textbox at this day and age.

There's already a "compact layout" that, while not exactly highly optimized for mobile, changes the sidebar style to be more usable:



It used to be enabled by default if the board figured you were using a mobile browser, but got turned off because it would "helpfully" overwrite your settings if you edited your profile on mobile, oops.


Multi-quoting would be fairly difficult without Javascript (if not impossible without enclosing everything in a <form> tag (and then having to make sure malicious users couldn't sneak in fields) ...

There actually was one of these for a while, but to be fair the Edit Profile page needs some... work. The text fields are all way too small in this day and age...

A private forum-ish. Currently IT is sorta that, but also kind of not. (And I know the talk that has been going on there).

I kind of want a place where there is space for like, more mature and or personal things. Like, where would you even post about say, sex, in the current set-up of forums. And I don't mean a place to share porn or anything like that, just a place to also be able to talk about those things (they are still very much human).

But, part of the problem is that I'm not even sure if I would be comfortable to talk about those things in a public place. I don't think there is anyone on this board that I wouldn't mind sharing those matters too, but I don't want outsiders to see it either. But on the same account, it's easy to just register an account to see that sort of thing too (if you know it exists). There's also the matter of that people might not even want to see that sort of things too.

What I would propose would be a forum that you can't see or access unless you have all of the following:
A. Reached a post milestone. (This is just to keep creeps away, it should be relatively low, but large enough that the community get a grip on the person, say, at the very most, 50).
B. Opted in to it.


I don't want to promote elitism and splitting the userbase though, which is why this sort of thing is kind of awkward. But for such a place to fill the needs I have of it, there must be some barrier to prevent random 0 post people from seeing it, as well as random creeps showing up. (I already have the issue of one person stalking me and sending me weird PMs on other forum boards. V.v )

I'm not sure how to best implement it, because basing it on post count may not be the best idea, either, but it's very hard to easily separate "can be mature enough to post here" and "is just trying to get access to be bad".

Having a manual check means someone has to constantly sit and approve it though. But I suppose you could tie that into the "opt-in" aspect that you'd have to apply for it?

For what it's worth, this is why I've been holding back on posting in that current sensitive-topic-thread-with-a-poll. I'm not sure how private a section would be that I was eligible for though, given that I've only just joined and have only barely interacted with a few of you elsewhere. There's just some things I'd rather people couldn't find 5 years down the line by googling my name. (Perhaps I should stop using the same name everywhere.)
Another forum I'm on has a private section that's purely for people the admins deemed responsible enough for it (well, not an exact criteria, but close enough), and it worked pretty well. They bypassed the problem of feeling left out though by making it long after the concept of that higher member tier was accepted as normal, so that may not work here...

But at the same time, I don't want to alienate someone who can genuinely contribute to a discussion, just because they're new. Sometimes people can show up with good experiences without having to prove things.


I don't know. It's difficult in this day and age:

- Google will helpfully index everything for public digestion
- Every other search engine will, too, and often ignore "don't do this" notes
- The ability to spread toxicity / raiding type stuff is higher than ever thanks to the rapid crap of social media sharing

Even among all of these, it would not be hard for someone to sign up, pretend to be well-meaning, and then just copy everything that's written in an opt-in forum out into the public space. This has actually happened a few times.

I think the solution might just be to make such a forum only visible if logged in, without other restrictions. But I'm not sure if that would be acceptable to you folks.

I quite agree with that idea, and share similar sentiments with rakiru.

Personally, I feel if someone is enough of a dick to do something like that, they'll go almost any length to do what they're after, so it would just be best to have a laxed-but-still-private-enough approach.

What if the forum in question is hidden for an arbitary time for all new registered users and all users with only 1 post, but if a user or registred friends of them request access, they get access to it?

Just as a simple hurdle and if it's absolutly invisible beforehand, strangers don't even know it exists.

I feel like having a low barrier of maybe 1-3 posts and 1 day of registration (or maybe even a few hours) is good. It's enough time to see if that user is actually a rereg or spam without being too much of a hurdle for anyone new.
