I was working on a userscript that replaced the stylesheets, but the problem is those don't run until the page is loaded, so you see the original style until it's loaded and then it switches to yours.

If all the style information came from an external CSS (or XSL ) stylesheet, there could simply be a profile field where users can put in a URL to their own stylesheet, but that would probably be a nightmare to implement on this board.

Well that's the thing, it wouldn't have to be filtered, because you'd be the only one who sees it unless someone else copies it.

Just letting people edit the styles using the existing system would be a total no-no, because they're PHP code last I checked.

So you add ?nocss=1 or something to the URL and it's disabled until you re-enable it again. (Except use something like with the poll system to prevent idiots linking to it.)
[edit] Er, no, not like the poll system. It'd have to be a POST form confirming (on a style-less page) that you want to turn them off.
