A good part of it actually. RO2 exists solely as a F2P model right now. Plus RO2 could never compete with FFXIV or WoW at any price. I can't really as a free + gatcha either, but it's probably the only way. Warportal (the company managing it now) is also doing a better job managing the IP so at the very least RO1 is still going strong. (It's still unique enough)

RO1 is F2P now as well with a Kafra "shop" that you guy buy stuff with real money.

Or, at least as of late 2011-early 2012, you could do offers to get points instead of throwing real money at them. God, I fucking hated all of those things.

I remember the point system, but My god that is awful. I was never aware of how you got the points other than paying upfront with cash. I don't think warpportal does anything like this now thankfully.

I remember these offers when I got into Maple Story the second time around. You could get points for the cash shop by installing adware, so I fired up VirtualBox, installed a bunch of it, then reset to a snapshot after the points were added.

Somehow I'm reminded of a dream I had either last night or the night before where I had an even older, third laptop that I somehow managed to obtain after returning home. My dream self was pretty stoked to get the thing working and couldn't wait to dissect the contents of the hard drive.

Much more substantially, I created an image file of my old laptop several months ago. Kind of useless in retrospect because I just eventually decided to go ahead and use this new laptop fresh.

I take images like those and turn them into virtual machines. At least in some cases they continue running well, in others I usually just end up having to extract the files from them because the guest OS is throwing a temper tantrum over something stupid.

Most of my data is in chaos. Really early stuff disappeared with family computers. My first PC had it's drive die, and I still have it with an intention to try to save it "oneday". I tended to always have an intention of archival, but never the organizational skills to really finish it. But most of my data is at least semi-organized. Recently I also think more critically of what I really need to have, so I hope I make an order out of it this year.

I am more sad about things like photos which I never had mauch of a device to take them with and never asked others for the ones they made, so I have like no representation of a whole lot of my life which lives on hard drives of people long gone from my life.
