The demoscene community Pouët has looked pretty much exactly the same for almost 18 years now. Granted, it wasn't a bad look to begin with.

And of course, there's VGMusic.com still partying like it's 1996. Will that header image ever die?

Well, there are plenty of people who still like MIDI stuff. The Doom community has a lot of people actively creating original MIDIs for WADs, for example.

(I think people also consider them a useful resource for those wanting sheet music etc. of video game/popular/etc music)

I was even working on my own MIDI sequencing software, but never got around to working on a lot of the important parts before putting it on the back burner.

I guess; I'm just surprised, as it seems like there's not really anything out there that plays them any more other than legacy software. (Remember when MIDs were something you could just embed into a webpage and it'd work out of the box?)

Winamp plays them out of the box (probably Windows Media Player still does too?) I thought foobar also did but I guess foo_midi is a separate component, but whatever.

MIDI device driver support got a little crippled after Windows XP though, which is a bummer.

Yeah, but those are both programs you have to install separately, and I don't think my phone can do MIDI either.

I really miss Acmlm's mid2wav, though. I wish he'd port it to foobar2k.

Yeah, MIDI is definitely a desktop only thing these days. I know converting MIDIs to actual sound is pretty trivial if you have a DAW, but most of us here aren't musicians, I'm pretty sure.

At least there are online converters out there, if nothing else?

I actually DO have DOSBox, but nothing to really use it with, not to mention how much of a huge pain in the ass it is to use mobile keyboards for DOS stuff.

I did this on my iPod Touch back in like 2011. I thought I was some l33t h4x0r doing that. It ran at like 3FPS but I didn't even care, it was windows on an iPod!

MDGX is also a classic. I sometimes head there to get working utilities for my VMs, especially when websites like OldApps.com sometimes blatantly lie when it comes to version compatiblity.
