Now we have our PM talking about how it’ll be a free vote in parliament still. There’ll be pollies that will vote against their electorate’s wishes… like Tony Abbott. His electorate was overwhelmingly YES but I can’t imagine him voting YES in parliament…

Abetz is already trying to sell the virtues of removing anti-discrimination law.

Australian Christian Lobby’s Lyle Shelton, seeking to interpret the result, has said the yes side has “been campaigning for many, many years”, as opposed to the no side, which has only had three months.

Shelton said he respects the results, but:

“Three months wasn’t long enough to overturn 10 years or more [of yes campaigning],” he said.

He said the no side had been highly successful in the short time it had.

“We know that we’ve shifted at least 1m votes, it wasn’t enough to get over the line at the end of the day,” he said.

And the ACL is still an utterly loathesome sack of genital sweat.

Talk about sore losers.

Oh yeah, it passed the Senate a couple of days ago. Now it needs to pass the House of Representatives.

Today in "what the fuck, Australia?"

Top Secret and confidential parliament documents have been released to the general public....because of second hand furniture sales selling off filing cabinets from parliament and no one could find the keys. Note that this has files dating back 20 years to around the turn of the century, which are supposed to remain classified for at least 20 years.

Just...read for yourself.

That certainly ranks up there for "biggest fuckups".

I guess they're lucky someone else didn't scoop them up and dump the entire lot online as opposed to just bits and pieces of it.

The smoking gun is "how many of these have been sold off to private individuals/foreign government agents without being accounted for".

And yeah, the ABC is pretty dang responsible, but that's the job description for a public but independent broadcaster.
