Hi again, it's been a while
I noticed the 'swapcircle' folder seemed to have pretty odd data, not completely matching the other versions, so as I'm working on my own engine I started using this to implement some functionality, and my finds are pretty interesting.

This is how the map looks like:

And there's quite a few N64 models - here's a couple:

And also a lot of N64 creatures like the swapstone, and some very early fox models (which looks like Sabre with an early fox head pasted on top of it):

(All mesh parts are in local space, while the GC mesh parts are all in world space... so I'll need to implement skeletal stuff before we'll be able to view these completely)

And beginnings of the swapstone:

Also...

(but it doesn't render correctly yet and the sides seem weird)

So yeah, pretty good finds so far I'd say

Sooo awesome!! Cool as hell seeing the swapstone and sabre's sword after all this time. Crossing my fingers for more finds. Awesome work!

Thanks, there's a LOT more actually, over a 100 models, most of them N64.
I've been making a lot of progress on the model viewer, implementing a lot from the SFA extractor that was released a while ago - but that seems to be a straight assembly reverse, and there's many tiny differences in this stuff as it's a lot older... but yeah here's some more:

Full sword:

(starting some work on skeletons)

(all creatures appear like this due to the mesh parts being in local space)

Just a couple more, there's a ton more to come though!

I hope some clean renders can be made. The articles for Star Fox Adventures in general are somewhat of a mess. I have gotten a lot of work done, but no one else has chimed in yet. I've done some extra bits for the SFA 2002 prototype, but not much past that. I wonder what's up with Rocky/Rubble though.

Update!

I refactored quite some things to make a set of shared functions between the different types of models, and I finally got to binding the environment textures....
For the first time in like 20 years, here's a textured DP environment!

Some obvious problems are: no texture blending, no vertex lighting, poor transparency.
So, this can be seen as quite early, and should be looking even better soon!

Update!

I've added support for basic bone transformations... and the models that use a skeleton now show up fine!

NOTE: Apologies for the watermarks. We all know how far some people go in faking prototypes or using screenshots without crediting the author.. so for now I put these in as precaution. It's probably unnecessary, but who knows. (if many of you think it's bullshit I'll remove them, heh)

You might remember the "first person view"-hands that can be seen in the 1 hour DP video:

I'm pretty sure I found them!

(Unfortunately, the textures aren't there it seems..)

Check out this super early, kind of "in between N64-GC"-style Fox model

And the back:

It appears twice, with tiny differences between them. I can't help but think one is mapped to Sabre, and the other to Krystal.
Once I get to the animations I guess we'll see

This appears to be Kyte (the dropped sidekick of Krystal), although many things are still wrong about it:

The turtle enemy from earlier... quite amazing how much detail they managed to put in the textures

A type of mushroom that would've been used as food resource:

And here are the swapstones, in all their glory!

That one enemy that was impossible to see now looks pretty cute

And this is one of the Lightfoot-Village inhabitants (there's many more but their textures don't load up correctly atm):

Star Fox version for comparison:

And these were a bit overkill to put a watermark on.. haha..
This seems to be an energy-source plant like SFA had:

And this:

As seen here:

I'm still quite surprised with what I found in this folder up until now... there's quite some more to come though!
Again, apologies for the watermarks... :/

I'll try to keep my commenting to a minimum so I don't spam but HOLY COW am I excited by these finds. There's something insanely cool about seeing models that haven't been seen in almost 20 years, a few that were previously seen only in blurry images, in their original forme.. plus, that lightfoot villager has never been seen anywhere before. Have these really just been sitting in a folder on the kiosk disk this whole time? I remember someone a while back theorizing the entire game of DP might be in there somewhere, and while that's probably still too farfetched, it looks like they weren't entirely wrong. This is a lot of brand new stuff so far.. exciting!!!

Yeah, there's still quite a bit on that kiosk disk not quite figured out yet, but there's still plenty to mull over. Most of the object files required to compile the game are missing, yet it seems there was quite a bit still being used during the transition to GameCube. Long ago, I'd hope a prototype would appear, but that's very unlikely given that most of the major formats for DP have been figured out and it doesn't seem these files appear anywhere else in the GameCube library.

Hugo shot me a build of his viewer some time last month. mostly i just wanted to see the level geometry and try to figure out what geometry matched where in SFA, and if there was new geometry altogether for the DP levels cut in the transition. i have his permission to post a list of what i've been able to suss out.

BLOCKS.bin

mod1 - unknown??? has spiral room and dino head gate room.
mod2 - Krazoa test room parts?? (there are a lot of dupes of this room)
mod3 - flat pillars (parallax effect??)
mod4 - Dragon Rock?
mod5-10 - same test room??
mod11 - unknown, seems like a temple??
mod12 - same test room??
mod13 - Swapstone Hollow
mod14 - same test room??
mod15 - Northern Wastes
mod16 - Warlock Mountain
mod17 - Store
mod18 - same test room??
mod19 - Cloudrunner Fortress (beta SFA; has palm trees instead of cherry trees, and Cloudrunner statues match the GC models)
mod20-26 - same test room??
mod27 - Darkice Mines surface
mod28-29 - same test room??
mod30 - same test room??
mod31 - Ice Mountain + IM racetrack
mod32 - more IM track parts?
mod33 - more ice track parts (dunno if IM)
mod34 - same test room??
mod35 - Darkice Mines underground
mod36 - DIM Galdon boss room
mod37-39 - same test room??
mod40-45 - same test room??
mod46 - flat plane
mod47-50 - same test room??
mod51 - Cloudrunner Fortress race track (SFA)
mod52-53 - same test room??
mod54 - square hallway?
mod55 - same test room??

i did this some time before he got Swapstone Circle pieced and textured, so it's likely there's a few places i missed.

...Wow... I'm both very amazed and impressed! Go Hugo Peters!

I've been able to decipher some old files for myself (not from DP, but from other games). But, what you've learned and discovered when it comes to C, C#, and GML - along with DP is beyond incredible!

I saw this yesterday, but didn't have the time to post. I wish I checked this two weeks ago instead. Either way, very amazing work! I would really like to see all of the models that you've found when you get the chance to show us - that is, if you are allowed to. I remember you signed an NDA with Rare, but it appears you are showing us DP material anyways.

I won't ask you anything else about the NDA, I've learned - sorry about the past. Do you know if it is possible to export those models and textures to usable formats like *.3ds or *.obj? What about *.png or *.bmp for the textures?

Great work, dude! Seriously, more is found even after 20 years.

kokorogensou, thanks for the update on the models, as well as everyone else who has contributed.

It's been awhile since I mentioned the music, but I cannot believe how close the custom soundfont sounds to that of the sound from Dinosaur Planet. It isn't exact, obviously, but it is pretty darn close. I know that RedFoxKett posted the music with the custom soundfont, but who made this soundfont?

The reason I bring this up is because I searched deep on Youtube for material from Dinosaur Planet, and came along this. If you look at the uploads by RedFoxKett, you'll notice that the track 35 is the Swapstone Circle. Of course, it doesn't say that in the title.

But... I came across this, and it was uploaded even before the music with the custom soundfont.
Here it is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9I28lGulL4

Wow... I hope to find more of the original soundfont music, and it is difficult to find these.
What about you guys?

the original instruments are playable/rippable with subdrag's n64 sound tool, i don't know where the custom soundfont came from, though

if you're looking for the origin of that rip, it comes from rare's old download page for the game, along with a couple other songs.

The soundfont that made the full soundtrack was ripped from the left over old game data where the music itself was also found. There were two different rips made. The initial attempt I'm aware of did a lot of manual work to reconstruct, though unfortunately had issues with the pitch of some instruments. A later rip was able to more correctly interpret through automated processing of of the original soundfont data, though still wasn't 100% right (an ancillary problem is also that the music itself is MIDI-based and used some custom controls that haven't been fully deciphered, which might be having an errant effect on the produced result).

Some of the music tracks floating around are also official promo releases by Rare, which may have a slightly higher quality than the game would've provided too.

Ok, so I failed to mention that the custom soundfont was based off of the original, but I did know that already. Thanks for the information though, it helps lighten the subject.
