I was half being facetious. Though, unless you're talking about mobile stuff (which is a whole other abomination), are those reductions in things like power consumption -really- meaningful past a certain point? Not saying it's a bad thing -- means you can get a usable computer (sometimes with fewer compromises!) for way less money.

Mmmm, well, if we want to support AI at some point then we still need more power, at least in certain regards.

Plus, strictly speaking from an entertainment standpoint there is a lot to like. I don't think I have been very impressed with the graphical level of a game in quite some time, but in the future we could hopefully stop the graphical fidelity race (which, let's be honest, have turned into a crawl) and focus on more important aspects to help create better immersion. (Such as frame rate, drawdistance, removal of pop-in, etc).

The most graphical impressive recent game for me is BotW, because the world you see at a distance scale in a mostly natural way as you get closer to things. It would be nice to see what those who actually put some effort into the right things can achieve with a bit more horsepower!

Well, yes, always; more powerful computing allows us to do a lot more things, and if nothing else will make the morning boot-up faster.

(Besides, computing power can be used for a lot of good, too.)

My original point was more about frivolous (or even hostile/detrimental) use of resources in "new" approaches to already-solved problems. I still don't think you can say the kind of performance gains of 10 or 15 years ago are still happening, though. Moore's law is definitely kind of dying.

I'm certainly all for seeing powerful hardware get cheaper and become available to more people, as I said. Having computing power and storage of your own is getting more important with each passing year as the proprietary alternatives get uglier.

In other news, I've got a job of sorts working in a microwave imaging lab at school. Since I don't have a ton of experience, the pay isn't amazing, but the work is easier and more fun than anything I'd be doing for the same money off campus. It'll be nice to have a little saved for when I can finally get out the awful pit that is the midwest...

I believe that, while some new web-related technologies can be helpful, they're generally used in incredibly wasteful ways that only complicate the code and slow down the page. I usually don't see any problems using normal common HTML, CSS and JavaScript (when needed).

I heard people talking about traveling in some other threads so...

After a week of being on vacation at about 75km (~45 miles) away from home, I learned one specific thing about myself: My stomach doesn't seem to like car trips very much. Thankfully, due to some medicine I take before going on car trips I don't end up feeling nauseous or anything, but I still feel very very tired and sleepy afterwards, and it still takes a little bit for my stomach to get back to normal. This ends up mostly eating the rest of the day.

This time I didn't play Mario Party 4 or 5, but Mario Party 2 instead and also Mario Golf - Toadstool Tour, a game which I had left aside for way too long. I also went fishing for a bit and actually caught three small fish!

Fishing can be fun, but I never really could get into it because & unless you're planning on eating them, and I can't stand seafood & you're just killing for fun, or injuring at the least. Plus I get uneasy around hooks and other sharp things.

Now, virtual fishing on the other hand ... It's been interesting to watch Raspberry play some of the fishing mini-game in Everybody's Golf. It's simplistic and probably really easy to play, but it's at least amusing.

I've more or less just wanted to go fishing to say that I did it once, I didn't really find it fun to be honest, a lot of time spent doing pratically nothing. It has the potential to be relaxing, but I was just looking forward to going back to the house and play some more videogames.

tbh, there is a way to make it all work.

you need the following items:
  1. one of these guys

  2. one of these bad boys

  3. a body of water, this looks like a cool place to kick it!

  4. & of course don’t forget one of these

then you go to the body of water, sit in the boat & play virtual fishing. you get both the nature & the virtual, non-destructive fishing.

sounds good to me! i might just head to the lake this weekend!

Okay, I might look terrible on it but, that pineapple hat is a true work of art and I really really need to find one of those so I can wear it.

Alright, but realistically, you could call any of those an actual fishfinder and nobody would bat an eye.

You could've just not linked it and then I wouldn't be $9 poorer. (Well, not yet, we'll see if I can manage to not buy it.)

One thing I always thought was fun but never saw enough of: those weird paddle-boats. Where it was like a bike with pedals, but it was a boat. Add a motor to those (for when you get bored/tired) and it'd be fun to go out to a small lake with one.
