Hey guys, I'm a new member here. Nice to meet you!!

I'd like to start a new thread about "Game of Thrones", hoping you appreciate it.
Let me start with one simple question, just to see if it gets interesting:

Books VS TV Series

Who win? xD

Haha, well, this went nowhere…

I like the TV show, but I much prefer the books.

The books are much more fleshed out and complex. There's more nuance, character motivations are better explained, and oh, there's such gorgeous complexity and richness to it all. I could go on forever about various conspiracies, characters, prophecy, and speculative theories.

I also have an issue with how the TV show has handled sexual violence. It seems to add more just to titillate the audience. For instance, Khal Drogo and Daenerys's wedding night is much less rapey in the books. And Jaime doesn't rape Cersei in the sept either. Not that the books handle everything perfectly… there's still a character who is raped so another character can have some development… (Theon).

I still watch the TV series, and I like it. It's good to see some of the characters on screen, and the visual storytelling is usually excellent. But the books are just so much better.

I enjoy the TV show more than the books, but because I like the condensed narrative the show offers. Plus at this point, with the story nearing its conclusion, it's nice to have, well, actual closure, considering who knows what the state of the next book is.

The last two seasons have basically been purely fanservice, with a lot of character reunions/battles/etc people have been theorizing about forever. I know some of the nuance and writing suffers for it, but man, at this point? I'm way overdue on some fanservice, considering how dour the series was up to this point.

I seem to like dour!

(Other things I enjoy include Neon Genesis Evangelion and The Handmaid's Tale…)

I do too, here and there, anyways. I just feel like there has to be some lightness at some point, and not just in the comic relief sense. Otherwise you go the route of the Walking Dead, where I got burnt out on drama based around characters dying. (Though that's the least of the Walking Dead's problems..)

OMG I don't know how I feel about this A Song of Ice and Fire fanfic.

Although that (undead creature) was long foreshadowed in Jon Snow's dreams.

Still it could be The Walking Dead…

I enjoy both the books and the show... I may not like or agree with some of the changes that the show made, but overall I love the casting and how they have made the characters come to life. I am hoping we get the next book soon though, because I really want to get back to comparing how they differ. I've heard rumors of the next book coming out next year, but until Martin himself says it, I take those with a barrel of salt.

The casting is generally excellent. And it's great seeing the characters and world.

I've finally figured out what's bugging me about the recent season. Fast travel, for one thing, takes all the tension out of stuff. At the start of the series, it took a long time for people to get anywhere. And when they travelled, it was dangerous as shit. Like Jaime and Brienne getting from Riverrun to Harrenhal, and all the awful stuff that happened on the way. Now we have Gendry running how fast exactly to send his super raven so Daenerys can fly across a whole continent before anybody besides Thoros dies… and we know the whole time that Dany's going to come save everyone right from the moment Gendry starts running…

…and there never really felt like a moment where they managed to convince us that Jon or Dany or anyone else was in actual danger…

…which is why I called it A Song of Ice and Fire fanfic. Cause it felt kinda low-stakes compared to the books or even the earlier seasons. And the stories are starting to get a little more… what we might expect, instead of being a shocking subversion.

I kinda wonder if the books will go the same direction, provided they ever come out. Shocking subversions are great, but the story's gotta resolve itself eventually, I think? Maybe (definitely) with a little more nuance than the show had this year, for sure.

Well, there are at least a few storylines that look like going quite differently. Brienne's for example. Also, the books haven't resolved the "Mereenese Knot" (how everyone gets to Mereen and meets up with Dany) yet… Tyrion was still outside Mereen, and Victarion was also on his way. Oh oh speaking of Victarion, oh wow, the books hint that Euron is a baaaaaad guy. Like, wants to start the end of the world bad. Summon Cthulhu bad. I'm curious to see where that goes. And where the whole thing with Young Griff/Aegon Targaryen goes (is he even a Targaryen? A Blackfyre? A rando with Valeryian ancestry??) Is the TV series merging Young Griff Aegon Targaryen with Jon Snow Aegon Targaryen?
