I enjoy both the books and the show... I may not like or agree with some of the changes that the show made, but overall I love the casting and how they have made the characters come to life. I am hoping we get the next book soon though, because I really want to get back to comparing how they differ. I've heard rumors of the next book coming out next year, but until Martin himself says it, I take those with a barrel of salt.
The casting is generally excellent. And it's great seeing the characters and world.
I've finally figured out what's bugging me about the recent season. Fast travel, for one thing, takes all the tension out of stuff. At the start of the series, it took a long time for people to get anywhere. And when they travelled, it was
dangerous as shit. Like Jaime and Brienne getting from Riverrun to Harrenhal, and all the awful stuff that happened on the way. Now we have Gendry running
how fast exactly to send his super raven so Daenerys can fly across a whole continent before anybody besides Thoros dies… and we know the whole time that Dany's going to come save everyone right from the moment Gendry starts running…
…and there never really felt like a moment where they managed to convince us that Jon or Dany or anyone else was in actual danger…
…which is why I called it
A Song of Ice and Fire fanfic. Cause it felt kinda low-stakes compared to the books or even the earlier seasons. And the stories are starting to get a little more… what we might expect, instead of being a shocking subversion.
