I was there for an internship position. I was one of the last 5 candidates, out of 200+ applicants. Unfortunately I didn't end up getting the position because of some screw ups during my formal interview. A lot of it went well, but I didn't expect some of the other questions they asked, and because of the strong competition it was a matter of points. But I received a lot of great feedback from them and they said the doors are open for a future application, so who knows =)

According to Rare and other companies I asked (Quantic Dream, Gearbox Software) my portfolio / resume is excellent - so if anyone wants to check it: http://hugo.fyi/

Interesting, you asked them about DP and "things sounded good".. i would not be too surprised if they would try to reboot the original Concept in the future in one form or another.
But thanks again for your Infos and its kinda amazing to read that you made it to the top 5 out of 200+ that really says something.

On another note, if we are talking about Fan remakes of the original concept before it was changed, did anyone try to build up anything?

I do know its not easy to do, but did not someone mention in here, that he wanted to try it?
I only know about a Fan Animation that is in some sort of development hell, but i have not heard or read anything new about Fan remakes of the original concept.
Cheers

It's been stated by a few they either wanted to try, or were working on it.

1. 2Tie was making one in Unity before this whole thing started up.
2. It's been mentioned on at least a few other sites people wanted to, or 'supposedly' were going to
3. MrQuetch wants to do a homebrew N64 ROM of it
4. I have potential far-future plans to try it, I want to build an actual game engine (and perhaps become USEFUL with 3D), first.

Yeah, the fan animation...
Is it STILL struggling, then?

also do you guys still think it is possible to get this game going somehow? either rom release, fix or anything from what we got?

another also :p is it possible for someone to give me working links to all audio files and pictures of DP?

sorry if this is asked before but all i find are just links with audio from this and this scathered, not everything together

you think someone out there has a playable rom?

idk about working (fully), there is a ROM link out there (unless that's gone down). The E3 Demo is basically found left-over in a Kiosk demo ROM
i guess??? Last I heard, there are known crashing issues

There were some... IDK about how many remain, now...
Yes, it's been asked before.

There are rumors of cartridges out there, some are believed to be true.
I once tried to track down at the very least, information on one that I suspected as-is to be less than genuine. Officially, I can neither confirm nor deny it, but the response I got wasn't very helpful. It makes me more suspicious of a hoax. I'll say no more... reasons... PM me if you must know.

If a ROM or cart exists, it's in the hands of private collectors, either being kept under tight lock and key, or waiting for a good chance to be released. There is not much doubt of this. Lots of stuff has survived from when DP was a thing.

Rare had a dev cart, but supposedly it stopped working, and supposedly it was trashed/destroyed. Far as I know, neither is confirmed.

Supposedly, "Big N", as I tend to call them, now... has the source code and assets, and most likely a dev cartridge or two. Given that the OoT Debug ROM leaked, the possibility of A leak from Nintendo is probably not out of the question.

Hugo Peters has talked personally with Rare/Microsoft. Unfortunately, he's bound by NDA. Look back a bit to see what he DID say about the matter.

Not quite right. The prototype of Star Fox Adventures we have is from the Interactive Multi Game Demo Disc 2002-07. You can find that for yourself, but it's been extracted and Gilgamesh could help out if you send him a private message on this very forum. The weird thing about that prototype is that there are remnants of earlier versions, DKR, and even prototypes of DKR in there but aren't in the final game. We don't have any other prototypes though and it's increasingly unlikely any other prototypes exist/survive.

While there are rumo(u)rs of DP carts out there, none of them have been confirmed as a copy of DP. It's unlikely we'll find a copy of Dinosaur Planet soon.

Rare's dev carts were temporary. Basically, the game itself would be burned onto a board and the tester could play it for a short period of time before the game was wiped.

I'm just going by what I recall reading...

Yes, those circumstances are a bit odd...

Sadly, I agree...
and finding is only half of it...

yep... I recall there were a few (or so i heard) that were supposed to be somewhat permanent. ofc, there's more questions than answers, there, and all are believed to be under very tight lock and key.

It's been awhile... Great to hear that you guys are making some progress on finding some new things. Once again, I apologize for any previous inconvenience... Looks my previous data is gone? If so, good...

I've been hard at work on learning the C programming language, and amazingly... It's beginning to make a lot of sense now! I've already been writing my own header libraries and have been making functions for vertex and texel manipulation.

What I mean by that is that I can now edit vertex position, texture coordinates, color, and alpha in real time. As far as texels are concerned, I can change colors via arrays & for-loops. I can also do 'overlays' from one array of colors over another array of colors. It really is some pretty amazing stuff. It's hard to get into the 'groove' of learning another programming language sometimes. Keep in mind I'm better an artist than I am a programmer.

I have many sample roms I've been working on and have been testing in emulation and hardware.

I'm not going to be getting a 64DD soon (though I wish I were), as they're quite expensive and I have other stuff going on. Hopefully in the future I can get my hands on one, and then I can program for that.

Does anyone on here have a 64DD?

If anyone still wants to do a homebrew rom I'm completely up for it!

Currently I'm getting matrices working, and so far they are.

awesome!

I think the theory of the 64DD being used in any way has long since been put to rest? And, not that I keep very current with this stuff, there's still insufficient resources to really do anything of the hacking/emulating sort with it? That's the last time I checked, anyways...

Homebrew does add an 'authentic' touch, I'll admit this much... but, I'm partial to using modern engines, even if still to render "low-quality" artwork.

Suggestion:
Why not post some more detailed information, or even screenshots, under the personal creations forum, or whatever it's called?

I believe that there are emulators for the 64DD, and they work just like normal N64 emulators. I was thinking about making the game in Unity awhile ago (like the other guy which I don't remember his username at the moment), and if that were the case, it would all be done to look like the 64DD.

I took your advice and have submitted another thread in that section. I plan on posting / attaching content when I get the chances to. Thanks, brian151.

I'm just going on what I last heard/read... and failing that, I call the Mandela Effect!
The 64DD doesn't have any notable differences besides using disks, I thought?

2Tie is a girl. I personally strongly do NOT recommend Unity. Many developers who have legit experience developing with it would say the same... As a user, I've long since quit installing the browser plugin, and I've had numerous problems running stand-alone exe's of it. Their file format is also particularly annoying to bust-open, and you'll find yourself bouncing between tools, if you were into such things. Their HTML5 exports use webGL exclusively, even for things that *could* run on the normal CanvasContext2D API/Object. It's also known to have issues being supported even on devices WITH access to webGL, or OpenGL 2.0+ Oh, and I personally discovered my parent's new computer doesn't use GL, it uses CL... That's just where I stand on the matter.

I shall reply to the other thread about the other stuff...

Eh, no problem...
Not sure I really did anything though, lol...

The 64DD doesn't really add anything besides (obviously) a disk drive, and some minor things like a clock and some fonts and sounds for games to use. It does also support a modem, keyboard, and mouse, but those are probably even harder to find than the drive itself.

It also requires the expansion pak, but everyone has that anyway.

so is there someone who can upload the files from the ambient.bin and sfx. bin, and also the voice clips?

i think i have all the music, like 92 tracks was it?
also it seems like alot of tracks were also used in sfa but slightly different sounding, maybe some different instruments or slightly different compositions?
or is it that maybe the instruments or compositions from the reconstructed ost could be faulty? or you guys think its the legit sounding one to the n64 version?

man i wasn't reminded about this game from when i was like 10, till 2 months or so ago when i stumbled upon the 1hour footage, can't imagine the pain you guys been through since 2013 finding all of this lol

also i don't know if people have put up names for the tracks comparing them with sfa ones so that most of them have names given that they would be used in same places kinda? otherwise i might be doing that later

for the voice clips, you can just open mpeg.bin in audacity iirc
i hadn't been able to get any of the other audio files read properly yet, and haven't really messed with the files in a while. though, i know others have gotten them to work.

with how the N64 handles audio, i'm fairly certain there's a difference in the instruments or at least how good they sound; i don't think the reconstructions would be faulty, but i have no way to know for sure lol

hmm okay, so where can i find these .bin folders? i don't have the prototype of sfa, and if there were links on this site they are all practically dead since i almost went trough all pages here lol so i guess no chance of people uploading those sfx, voice, etc, .bin folders?

did a quick check, yeah there's no working link for the disk anymore; i didn't check kett's sound uploads though.

so i reuploaded it myself!

Here's the full disk .7z'd up

And here's just the leftover .bin files

some of the texture files and MPEG.bin can be read with my utility, though it doesn't work for the music yet. for that i recommend subdrag's N64 Audio Tool, though iirc it only plays instruments. not sure what others used to recreate the songs.

been a while since i posted anything, but dropping this here since it might be of interest

back when MPEG.bin was first uncovered to be an hour of DP audio, i set out to do an entire transcript of the audio. only now have i finally gotten it finished, but i'm working on sorting lines in separate text files so the dialogue makes better sense contextually. also a bit of analysis because i'm buggery like that.

full script on my GDrive, will likely get the dialouge sorted and finished next week.

bless you guys =v=/

EDIT: quick edit, sticking this in because in the middle of sorting out dialouge, i noticed a lot of the clips in MPEG.bin are sorted alphabetically by location. little writeup here. im tired.

finally finished and bundled up all the sorted dialouge by location (mostly). collection includes the original MPEG.bin and a .OGG format version of it. keep in mind that 75% of the sorting was done until i found out MPEG.bin itself seemed to have the lines sorted by location (mentioned in my previous post edit and ~ANOTHERNOTE.txt), so there's a lot of stuff in misc.txt that could've belonged to specific other places that have text file compilations. i may do a second revision eventually.

but yeah, hope you guys enjoy. O: any comments or questions, shoot em by me at kokorogensou@gmail.com. i don't really respond to asks on my DP tumblr anymore.

EDIT: took long enough, but did a second revision of the script sorts; no major edits to the main raw script, but everything else has been completely re-sorted by location. get this one.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
