I honestly don't really see what you're on about. Does anybody ever need to jump to a specific page? I think the way it works now is perfectly adequate, so I wouldn't spend time on it.

Jul - General Chat - This isn't a real thread (yet)

Page: « First - < Prev - 5 of 14 - Next > - Last »

Jump to page:

The dropdown would show every page, but the text version would only show the current page, previous and next, and first and last. The links could also be enlarged a little to make tapping them easier.

The only issue is that the dropdown could get really, really long for certain threads, and I'd like to keep a JS-free implementation...

That's exactly how it works on Drupal (without the dropdown) and I think it's pretty effective and all that's usually ever needed. People usually only really need to jump to the beginning or the end, or a page near where they currently are, I think.

if a dropdown menu doesn't cut it, in the worst case, it's always possible to keep it simple and dedicate a separate page to the mobile page selection

Does the mobile layout disable the custom layouts, or does it still show them?

Just asking, cuz I'm sure a few aren't mobile-friendly, or at least, wouldn't look great on a mobile device...

Mobile mode disables custom layouts and sets your thread layout to "Compact"... but there is a bug where they are "temporarily committed" and will be saved to your profile if you edit it while using a mobile device.

This is true, but really ugly. The dropdown might still work better.

You know, I've been fiddling around with the Item Shop, because it's kind of fun. Maybe more items? Low priority, but I'm a sucker for creating my own custom stats with the items that are there now.

There is a shop editor, but right now it's restricted to moderators. In theory, opening it to regular users and making it track who made what (so you can only edit your own) would be good, and adding some limits to stats by level (and maybe automating costs?) would be interesting ...

The big problem with taking it seriously is the large amount of total "joke" items that give ridiculous stats or other wacky benefits, and some of the effects that are present mostly made sense back when I was talking about what the item shop could be used for with someone, but not really any more.

I've thought about finding a way to tie it into the silly faux-level gaining that runs alongside my streams sometimes, but I never really figured out how to make it work well.

Triple posting is something I can do, shut up

Anyway, another feature idea is fixing the "meta description" for a permalink post to describe the linked post, not the OP of the thread. Maybe I can nag Kaito about that.

Shop should totally get an upgrade or something, maybe even an implementation to use it in forum games of some kind (as much as those die so easily).

Updating the contact fields would be a good idea for certain since a lot of more prominent services exist now. Though most probably just put it into the custom profile desc field, or in signatures.

Not sure about the logistics of it, but alternatively, custom contact fields?

Makes it harder to tie them into automatic links, though, is the only real issue.

Instead of having a dropdown in the "go to a page" thing, why don't have a <input type="number">. I mean, if we were to follow that example then the person already knows the amount of pages that exist in the thread anyway so they know what range of numbers they can type in there.

Smartass. But yes, that's a better solution; I forgot that those types of inputs are A Thing now, and I'm too used to other forums that do it the dropdown way.

It's a lot to set up and there's already something vaguely similar in Discord. The bandwidth gets a little much too, but I mean it could be done, I guess

I had an idea about implementing those buttons that insert BBcode in the textarea while someone is typing a new thread/reply/poll. I ended up making the HTML and JavaScript for it in an attempt to see if I could make something functional for once.

"use strict";

function bbCode(tag) {
var id = document.getElementById("siteTextarea")
var selection = id.value.substring(id.selectionStart, id.selectionEnd)
if (tag === "url" && selection.substr(0, 4).toLowerCase() !== "http") {
var url = prompt("Enter the URL for the link:")
if (url) {
var selectionBB = bbCodeSurround(selection, "[url=" + url + "]", "[/url]")
id.value = id.value.replace(selection, selectionBB)
return;
}
}
var selectionBB = bbCodeSurround(selection, "[" + tag + "]", "[/" + tag + "]")
if (id.selectionEnd - id.selectionStart == 0) {
var array = [];
array[0] = id.value.slice(0, id.selectionStart)
array[1] = selectionBB;
array[2] = id.value.slice(id.selectionStart)
id.value = array.join("")
return;
}
id.value = id.value.replace(selection, selectionBB)
}
function bbCodeSurround(text, startTag, endTag) {
text = startTag + text + endTag;
return text;
}

Of course it doesn't actually work in this example because JavaScript is not allowed in posts, but all you'd need to do is call the JS via onclick="nojavascript...bbCode('quote');" on each button's HTML, where 'quote' would be the relevant BBcode tag.

Also, if the CSS/HTML looks like crap, all I can say is <br> to you too.

for the love of all things good some way to see what username someone went by 6 years ago would be helpful

edit: Also, it looks like something was done to the users who had photobucket images as avatars where https://jul.rustedlogic.net/images/photobucket.png# was prepended to what is actually in their avatar field? Is there some easy way to fix that?
