Maybe Canada? It's close enough to home (relatively speaking), it's pretty similar to where I live, and in most places they still speak English.

I'd thought of other places, but too much would be different to really be comfortable going there.

What's your thought on a cheap shared hosting service, such as Buyshared. $15 a year is enticing since I don't need a lot of space or bandwidth. I checked all of my local webhost files and even all of my old image and Photoshop files, they totaled 857mb. I would mainly use it to host images for here and have a place to upload PHP scripts to mess around with.

I don't know how much I'd trust its longevity with that, but it seems decent enough. 100 GB of transfer/month for a dinky personal website is probably more than adequate; TCRF just hit that 20 days into the month, and it's far larger

I'm going to get a new domain name as well. That way even if I change hosts later on, URLs will still work. Google Domains offers free private registration and $12 a year for most domains.

I think it is a fine idea, but a format of Kafuka's "answer a question, ask a question" thread might also be good. (But some of those questions could be whole threads!)

2017 has been a mess politically, at least.

More close to home:


Finances: They're going good enough that I finally said fuck it and set up a loan to BMF for his $2900 credit card debt. In exchange for killing the 18% interest rate on that, he gives me an extra $100. Judging from the numbers I crunched, this saves our happy little household about $800-1100 in interest payments.

The debt is very old (from when he moved here); he hasn't been irresponsible with money in the last many years, mostly. So I'm confident that this will help him get back on track to saving well.

Other than that, I'm trying to save up for a new vehicle of some sort.



Vehicle: My 2011 Honda Insight was totaled last year after an unfortunate accident (our fault). I ended up purchasing a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe that (surprise!) has mostly run OK but has a really bad oil leak that's only getting worse, so I'm having to monitor its levels weekly and dump in more all the time. Unfortunately the cost of fixing that (after everything else I've done) is way past the value of the car as-is, so I'd like to dump it and get something more reliable.



Work: Could be better. I don't feel good, but I think I am going through a depressive episode and will hopefully come out of it soon. We're under a lot of deadlines and stress.



Life in general: Could be better. I feel isolated in general; I don't talk to many people online, I have basically no local friends. Over the last 15 years, my social circle has deteriorated badly. A lot of it is people just growing up / having more responsibilities and not being around, but it makes me long for the old days.

I don't get out of the house much just because I'm very, very tired most of the time. I don't sleep well (stay up way too late with others) and never really adjusted to the whole "normie" schedule of early-up early-sleep.



So in short, uh, okay, I guess. My plans for the rest of the year are mostly "keep saving money" and "try to not get fired" and maybe "call a doctor and / or a therapist". The latter one is extremely difficult.
