Oh, you beat me to it.

I can't decide between the owl and the cat! So cute! And I adore tropical settings, so I'm really looking forward to this new region. By the way, did you notice that the island they show barely looks big enough for two towns? I'm positive that you will be traveling between islands. Maybe we'll even get to use Soar again!

It's Hawaii!
There was a ton of speculation about it, which is interesting.

To be honest, I found it underwhelming at first since I expected some sort of surprise and something unusual going on especially with the legendaries.
Only after realizing how small the region looks like I got interested. There's no way the typical game fits in there, right?!
It also looks very open, with only prominently a road from a town to a big city. There's on the other hand several landmarks and roads everywhere.

I'm not feeling much for the actual pokemon... though I do like Kotobirb, and the legendaries look very neat.
... On the other hand, I adore Magearna, which I guess counts?

hmm hmm, looks like the player's no longer chibi-ised in the overworld anymore... i'm kinda sad they moved away from that, since that was part of the 'look' since the first games...

If I get this game I'll probably get the owl, buuuut, I'll probably not get it.

Me buying this game is as likely as gamefreak actually trying something radically different in this game, and actually having a proper post game or NG+.

I'm fairly confident that is Blathers, that's part of the joke with the image. AFAIK they have not shown anything aside from the starter pokemons.

The game came out. So, uh, how's it going!

I am playing it but I am not very far. I do not like the forced rail-roading that this game very obviously is doing.

Finished the main storyline. I'm not going to give any spoilers. I wasn't incredibly impressed with it. It might be because it's been two years since I played through Alpha Sapphire but the game story felt way lighter than I remember with ORAS and XY. Some areas are way less complex like caves and forests. There's plenty of swimming sections given the game is set on a bunch of islands.

There's a lot of hand-holding and you're always told which way to go and what to do next. I would have preferred the ORAS interface over the Rotom-Dex. I think it's a great feature for newcomers or novices but it does feel a bit like an on-rails story.

Nitpicks: The protagonist character has no expression whatsoever. There's no "rival" character ... just Hau with the constant happy expressions and overbearing enthusiasm ... I'd take a "smell ya later" over the gleefulness of this guy. Team Skull is the most undeveloped team I can think of in recent memory.

I kind of wish Game Freak would put in a fast forward or 2x button for battle animations. It's the kind of thing that worked well in World of Final Fantasy.

The number of callbacks and references to older games were great at first but it honestly felt like Game Freak was reeling up its middle finger towards the end. Can't help but imagine that the target audience for this game wasn't alive or won't get some of these references.

There's some good things. HMs are gone and replaced with reusable TMs ... this is VERRRRY wellcome. No longer need an HM Pokemon ... *grabs shotgun* ... goodbye Bibarel.

I'm also still pretty early on. The locked camera movements do seem kind of annoying, so hopefully it gets better. Would've been nice to get some camera control on the circle pad pro. And uh. Yeah. That linearity. I guess it's par for the course for Pokemon, but in a game about breaking traditions you'd think they might try changing that too.

I really, REALLY, want to like this series and keep buying new games, but they seem to be rather hellbent on making games that I have no interest in buying. I used to scoff at the idea of "growing out of" liking pokemon, and I still do. But I can't help but think that the series is just going the opposite direction from what I want in nearly every area. :I

The lack of NG+ and/or multiple save files was a deal breaker with me for this instalment (I'm sick of having a dead game once I beat it that I can't replay without throwing away my entire collection forever). But a lot of things I have heard about the game now that it's out suggests that I probably wouldn't even like it that much anyway, even if it had this feature.

And to me? I just think that's a huge shame, because I can't get over my love for the series. *sigh*

Been waiting for this since Pokémon Colosseum introduced the concept of HM-Less pokemon.

Glad to see I finally got what I wanted after uh, 13 years.

Reusable TMs have been a thing for a while now...

The Ride Pokemon replacing HMs is a welcome addition, and so far everything is a nice package of personality and it is very fun to play.

I'm almost done with the second island so yeah.

Yeah, I was mostly referring to the nixed HM moves.

It's refreshing actually being able to have a full team of pokemon without having a benchwarmer or three for crap field moves.

I wasn't interested enough to pick up Sun or Moon. I haven't played since Gen IV but I still like to hear what people think of the newer games. People seem to have their nitpicks such as the game railroading you. Can't blame anyone with that opinion since I personally enjoy more open exploration. Despite that, the reviews for the games seem to be positive. I'd like to imagine that Game Freak is doing something right if they were able to get 7 gens out of Pokemon so far.

If I had to pick one up, I'd go for Moon because it sounds cooler than Sun.
