No one is using the SM64 Hacking forum?

It’s like the most interesting hacking community I’ve come across. Why the dead air?

Hopefully it’s just a sag that will eventually be filled by a burst of good ideas.

There was an exodus a few years back due to some differences of opinion.

It's basically an archive forum now.

…huh…well, you can’t blame the Internet for doing that to itself.

But still…it was a great community…

Isn't that the NSMB forum?

Not that the SM64 one is very active either, though.

SM64 forum died because nobody was allowed to say shit there without a swift strike of the fist of moderation.
Welp.

Welp.

Nice of you to come out of two-year retirement for this.

The SM64 forum was heavily moderated to keep a high signal-to-noise ratio instead of devolving into garbage. It worked well but people like being able to post garbage, so the majority of them left to post garbage.

By "Garbage" I assume its the sort of hacks that are just a bunch of stuff thrown together to be 'challenging' or really poorly done graphical edits. Hacks that are good and/or improve on the original are practically 1 in 1,000,000 these days.

As much as some people were idiots, the moderation going on in the SM64 forum was so tight it could have scared users away regardless of their intelligence. You don't really feel welcome in a place that has shit like "READ THIS OR DIE" or "DON'T MAKE NEW TOPICS" plastered all over. It's like if cops were out in the streets going "DON'T COMMIT CRIMES OR DIE" at random people while pointing guns at them, under the name of "preventing crime".

Besides, idiots don't read

More along the lines of what I meant, And yeah it does come across a bit of a slap in the face how that's the first message I make here in 2 years, didn't occur at the time.

This kind of thing is what happens when you think too hard about what the Internet could do to a forum…or anyplace on the Internet.

What people really should do is let the fanbase adjust itself around the theme, poking it into shape here and there, not really requiring any huge projects…then after it has had time to settle, THEN crack down…but only a little bit, and around what was generated during the settlement, not around the original idea.
