I thought you guys might be interested in this. I am interested because I am nostalgic about the original Primal Rage.
In 1996, Atari was developing Primal Rage 2. A prototype was completed, but the game was ultimately cancelled. A partially functioning rom/chd exists though. It crashes shortly after reaching the versus screen. Two guys on YouTube have been exploring the rom for a while.

This guy has managed to make the game playable, but the hit boxes are broken or something. He found and recorded all the music too. You can read about his progress on his videos.

This guy has found lots of animations and unused textures, levels, etc. He seems to have made the game functional in his most recent video.
Primal Rage fans really want a functional version of the game to play on MAME. It would also be interesting to see what else the rom/chd contains. Thanks to anyone who is interested. |

| You may want to check here before continuing your search for a working version. As far as I know, the issues plaguing the game stem from emulation errors in MAME for the hardware it runs on, and not so much issues with the ROM itself. The arcade machine is fully functional, and has been played to completion by several people. Give it some time, and I'm sure the MAME devs will have the issues ironed out. |

I've been to Galloping Ghost and played it before. I didn't spend long with it but from what I did it wasn't that great. Very interesting as a piece of history of course.
To add to what Abystus said the lack of progress in MAME has to do with the encryption the game uses. The game uses a CHD file which usually means the original cabinet had a hard drive of some kind. Primal Rage 2 had that as well as protection on it, which is what is holding them back. I'm sure it will be done someday I'm just not sure when. I remember when they said CPS3 was uncrackable.... and then I woke up one day and like every CPS3 game could be emulated.
