Huh, interesting. Those are the same rankings listed in the attract mode, but I've never seen them used or mentioned anywhere else.
I'll play through the game in Japanese mode to see if I get that stuff. Thank you.
Edit: Okay. Smaller versions of these same kanji are used in the attract mode for Versus Fight rankings, but they're different graphics. I'll poke around to make sure.
Edit 2: And confirmed, these large versions are not used anywhere. I just did a quick playthrough of the game and it only uses the smaller versions.

These tiles for a few 16x16 hiragana characters are loaded on the Game Over screen in Tails Adventures. They don't seem to be used, even when the game is run on a Japanese system, and they don't have an English equivalent (the game data is the same in all regions, with language adjusting automatically based on the Game Gear region).
As you can see, they're pretty scrambled in VRAM, so the order I've put them in here may or may not correspond to their intended use. Given the context of a Game Over screen, can anyone guess what these are supposed to say? |

Ah, it figures! I thought it looked off, but managed to totally forget that ใ could go with ใค.
Anyway, it's certainly unused, so I'll fix it and add it to the article later. Thanks! |

What does Colossus and Sentinel say? This seems to point to multiple endings. (Also extract them so I can put it in the CotA article)

So the Colossus lines are from the used Danger Room scene and the Sentinel one is when he escapes Avalon (Structural integrity of station "Avalon" has been breached).
Can anyone extract and translate this, too?

I found some dev text in the Game Boy version of Bubble Bobble scattered around the ROM. Seems to be in Romanji.

Does this dip switch setting say "Flip / Invert Screen" or something similar?
I apologize for the quality of this image, but it's the best I could find. Hopefully it's legible enough.

Thank you Joe for translating one of the messages. Now if someone would translate the other ones, I'd be a happy camper. If you feel up to it, Joe, feel free to! |

Huh, well that confirms what MAME says it is, at least. Doesn't actually do that in the code, but hey. Thank you!

Hm. What game is this? It may say something regarding "screen flipping in cocktail mode" when booting the game.

It's for the arcade game "Heavy Unit." The title screen normally looks like this:
If the "Flip screen" switch is set, this screen is displayed and the game soft-locks. Doesn't matter if the cabinet type is Upright or Cocktail.
This is noted in the MAME driver, but from what I've examined in the main and slave CPUs this seems to be the intended behavior for that switch. I don't have any footage from a real-life cabinet to go by, though. I guess it's possible that something in the Mermaid MCU handles the screen flipping.
