OH NO, THE GIRLYDRAGONS ARE REPLICATING THEMSELVES! D:
(It's like that one sci-fi show!)

Seriously though, that seems like a weird way to view things. Does that mean that five years from now the games we have today aren't fun for simply the fact that they are old?

In my case it is more that I feel that gaming has evolved, and is still evolving, and is actually getting better. We are learning more about design that we never knew of before, so older games often feel, not as refined I'd say.

(New gaming has of course it's own issues, such as DLC and business practices.)

That and, a lot of the NES "classics" feel just like a plain chore to get through these days. With some exceptions of course, I do love me some punch-out.

I never minded that. And I did know about this for a while but... I still think they're the best versions.

Hah, I set my browser's minimum font size to 2 pixels, meaning I can still read what you said without any problems!

Either way, I also think that the Super Mario All-Stars versions of those games were superior to the originals. I feel like the controls are better in the SNES version. Don't know if I can say the same for the Advance ones since I haven't played much of those.

I guess I can add in an unpopular opinion regarding Mario of my own.

I am not a big fan of either SMB1 or 2, and 3 is maybe a little fun but nothing spectacular.

I like SMW a bit though.

KLayout v3.1
For me, they're mostly the same. It's not as different as like, Wily Wars compared to the NES originals (but it's better than Wily Wars in that attempt).

The save feature is also an high point for me, but this can be irrelevant in modern day emulation.

I find SMB1 to have very poor jumping physics. People still praise it to this day as having amazing jumping physics, which is something I can not agree with.

(Damn it! This any better? (aka worse?))
I do like the All-Stars version of SMB3, because that's an improvement over the original without compromising or breaking anything. Can't compare it to the respective Super Mario Advance version, because I haven't played that one very much even though I've had it for years now. Same goes for SMB2, tho I don't have the GBA version of that anyway. Also, the visuals of All-Stars SMB1/Lost Levels are nice, that I can certainly agree with.

The posts in this thread are the ignition to start arguments. The most logical thing for me to do is to post too!

-Amiibos are junk toys used to lock content behind a paywall

-There isn't much point to the existence of the *NEW* 3DS since it has next to nothing for exclusives and the upgrades it does offer are minor.

-Even though I enjoy the Zelda Series, it's highly over rated. This is especially true for OoT and LTTP.

-RPGs are overrated as f*ck. I can tolerate some RPGs but there is nothing more boring than grinding in some area just to level up your character's stats to advance the game.

-Handhelds are better than consoles and PCs. There is nothing better than sitting in bed, under the covers, playing a good game late in the night and into the morning.

-Melee isn't as amazing as people claim.

-Portal wasn't as fun as people claimed it to be and can be summed up as the meme of 2007.

That's all I can think of for now.

I really do not like SMB1, at all.

The temple of the Ocean King in Phantom Hourglass is actually a pretty neat dungeon and I like going through it multiple times.

Oh yeah, a few more (because I am grumpy today and need to burn off my grump).

Super Mario Bros 3 is wasted potential - the game. It tries to do the thing that DKC does later on where it introduces a gimmick in each level, but unlike DKC it does nothing with it in almost all of the levels. Pretty much the exceptions are the few cases where they've gone all in on it like the Angry Sun.

Fire Emblem would be a better, more engaging strategy game series if they ditched the level up mechanics. It is also a terrible multiplayer game - FEDS' multiplayer was worse than what Advance Wars 1 accomplished in a sub-game mode (pre-deployed) and it wasn't gated behind 50 hours of prerequisite RNG abuse.

DKC3 is better than DKC2 because it doesn't have a crazy unstable difficulty curve and the two Kongs are actually extremely different in play.

Games that gate multiplayer competitiveness behind hours of grinding (Pokemon, I'm looking at you) are bad multiplayer competitive games.

Team Fortress 2 was a better, cleaner and more cohesive game before hats.

I enjoyed Metroid: Other M's story aside from the weird "Adam says you can't" mechanic. I didn't see anything wrong with the inner-monologue presentation of Samus's thoughts, which made it feel sort of like reading a comic. I liked the character designs, especially for MB.

I enjoyed Paper Mario: Sticker Star for its uniqueness and quirky charm. I was impressed with how well they conveyed the imagery of cardboard dioramas and fully understand why they put development of the game mechanics above story.

I think Mario Kart: Double Dash! is more compelling and memorable than Mario Kart Wii.

I like Brawl's tripping because it slightly evens the playing field between super-pros and newcomers. I'm never upset when I lose a match because of tripping.

MKDD being better than MKWii is probably quite a popular gaming opinion.

also how did this get to be a hot topic in under 20 hours

Because there's usually not much activity in Jul. The past few weeks before the activity spike had just 4 or 5 new posts a day, if that, and even then most of those would be in the The Cutting Room Floor forum.

Mario kart and MK SC are both better games than mario kart 64.

Also, I'll mirror what Xenesis said: FE would be better without the level up mechanics. In fact, that series would be better with some major overhauls. Currently we are sitting with games that promote you to restart every map as soon as one of your characters dies. (Ergo you made a mistake.)

I realise the original point was that you should just roll with characters deaths, butt he RPG mechanics gets in the way of that. Because if you lose a character you put a lot of experience points in, the game will get quite a bit harder as a result. Ironically, introducing some rogue-lite mechanics might actually help the series.

Remembered another unpopular opinion just now.

I tried Demon Souls a long time ago, and found it slow, unrewarding, not that difficult and just a plain bore to play.

I got reminded because I just picked up the Bandai Namco bundle, thinking I was gonna give the souls games another try with Dark Souls, maybe they'll be better this time?

Hell yeah. I will defend DKC3 over 2 because 3 is made with a good difficulty curve and it doesn't have bullshit like "Oh you can't save in world 4 until you complete these 3 levels. Died at level 3? Oops! Start the world over!"

It was like that in the first game but it was much worse in 2. 3 at least had a save point you had access to 100% of the time and the game had a lot more going for it.
