Old topic is old, but a colleague and I decided to make a 3D, DX version of the game for a class project in Unity3D last Fall. Essentially, it is like the 2D version, but with more powerups, more music, better controls, and more modes (Normal 1 vs 1 Air Hockey, a Pinball mode, and a 4P Battle Mode). We also recently ported and published the game to Android, and I am working on a final port of the 2D version to the Sega Genesis as a homebrew title. Project Page Trailer Video
