There's an 8 TB external HD out right now.

Alternatively, you can get a cloud server with four 4 TB hard drives if you know where to look.

I doubt I'd be able to fill up all that space in the hard drive's lifetime, though. XD

I know where to look to get a server with four 6TB hard drives.

Or thirty-six 6TB hard drives.

(I work at a datacenter.)

Hah, the maximum hard drive storage I was able to see around here was 4TB. Even then, what I did eventually get was a 3TB HD because I was tired of playing the waiting game. It wasn't bad.

My max download speed apparently got upped to 570 KB/s, which is still pretty bad, but better than how it was before (460 KB/s).

On another note, I've managed to fill up said 3TB Hard Drive with backups and other downloads. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not. :V

What's that in Mbps? I can get around 71.8MBPS download speed and about 9MBPS upload speed.

IE6 is really fast in my connection.

About 0.57Mbps (1 Mbps = 1000Kbps), or twice as slow as my internet. Yes, my download speed is just 1 Mbps. It's still way better than how my internet was 5 years ago (it was 7Kbps or 0.007Mbps, because Dial-up).

@Zero One, pretty impressive.

Annoying, my 63mbps download speed is now limited to 54mbps, because my wireless USB dongle thing is broken (it doesn't pick up any networks). So I am using the default Windows version.

Is an ethernet connection not an option? Get wired, son!

It still loads quickly, not too many mbps lost in the process.

and ignore my layout for now, because it's partially broken, for some reason

Sigh. VMware Virtual Machines stored on the external hard drive for whatever reason take ages to shut down. While this isn't really that bad, it's annoying since I use snapshots extensively, and any time I revert to one the VM shuts down. You can see where this is going with Malware Testing.

I went back six pages and ended up in 2013 in this thread. Damn.

As for your VM stuff, if it's over USB2.0 that'd definitely be a reason. Get a real SSD and put them there

Fun fact: the shut down slowness doesn't happen with VPC 2007 at all. They work just as fine. The desktop doesn't have this problem at all, but for that I'm sure it has USB 3.0 support.

If I had to get a SSD it would probably have a lower capacity, which is a big no go for me.

In my experience with VMware, the virtual machine always took a long time to shut down depending on how you trigger the shut down. I never really bothered to find out how or why.

What I mean is that the VM shuts down, but there is a long pause of apparently "nothing" (writing data to the disk) where controls are locked and trying to close VMware brings up a message that the VM is busy.

On my notebook this always happens with VMs stored on the external HD, but I haven't checked if it also occurs if stored on the actual notebook's hd (all things considered, I wouldn't be surprised if it does).

I can't check this anyway since I'm not going anywhere with 8GB of disk space free. :V

If I had to guess it might be because the VM is flushing its write buffers to disk, which is causing the host to also write to disk.

Shrug.
