I had one (1) message in Discord deleted and proceeded to make a huge, huge mess about how it was a violation of free speech and how moderators are supposed to be spam janitors and nobody should have the right to tell me not to talk about school shootings

The hilarious part is that there's been a number of articles posted on slashdot that have been misusing the term "bricking", "bricks", "brick", and "bricked".

Even then, something like this wouldn't take long to fix if Windows was fucked sideways by a hole.

Since it's an ActiveX control, I guess it would be fine to just remove it entirely?

(I did probably back when I got this laptop, since HP Software Update is a total joke)

I bought a Compaq a few months ago (laptop, AMD 64-bit, nVidia graphics, etc. Love it) and never even started it up. I grabbed my completely legitim*cough*ate WinXP installation disc and went to town.

Yep, that's what I did with mine. Booted it to make sure it worked, then wiped it.

Ω > U

Update: Wow, we didn't realize how seriously everyone took their slang. For what it's worth, the definition of "bricked" has caused some amusingly serious discussion amongst Engadget editors today, and most agree that it should mean "dead beyond all repair" -- except for Nilay, who keeps stubbornly saying that people "un-brick" devices all the time. We'll stick to the most common definition for now, so no, this exploit didn't "brick" anything.

Only nerds would care about a term like bricked so much. Hell, just use urbandictionary and find something better.
