To be fair, you can't really fault Nintendo for how people hacked into Smash update files to spoil what their big reveal was.

Also, I'm amazed at the amount of hate the Metroid game is getting. I mean, a petition to cancel it? Seriously? It's a four-player co-op game in the Metroid universe. Co-op Metroid! It's not like this game killed anybody's parents or something.

Completely wrong expectations were set.

The completely unrelated spinoff is the first game in the series since 2010, and the last well-received game in the series was in 2007. It'd like be announcing "Super Smash Bros is coming to the Wii U" in 2011/2012 and when it was unveiled it's a puzzle game or something.

They never actually said anything about a new Metroid game coming beforehand. In fact, they didn't even reveal it was a Metroid game until the end of the trailer. There were high expectations, yes, but you can't say that Nintendo was the one to set those expectations.

According to an interview, Federation Force could act as a gateway for a new Metroid Prime game. If this game gets cancelled, I can't imagine it would have a very good impact on the future of the series.

Edit: Another excerpt says that the reason the game focuses on the Galactic Federation rather than Samus is because they wanted co-op, but having four "Samuses" would be weird.

The (slightly mangled) quote that came from E3 2014 basically said they were looking into the future of 2D and 3D metroid. They then let that go on to become its own beast, they never tempered the expectations or otherwise.

Federation Force could act as a gateway for a new Metroid Prime game.

And that's exactly the problem. People don't want a "gateway", they want a freaking new Metroid game.

I almost completely forgot i needed to do a checklist of how many of my predictions came true. So here we go.

Microsoft

>Battletoads is coming, is Rare's smaller title, and will most likely launch this year as a digital only game. [X] (It still seems to be happening, because i can't really see Rare Replay running on Unity. and we did get some new artwork of the Battletoads.)
>Rare's big title is most likely a new IP that isn't a Kinect game. Hopefully it ends up being good. [✔] (It's called "Sea Of Thieves", and it looks great.)
>That 1TB Xbox one Console with the new Controller Amazon leaked will definitely be announced, also, it's going to be released the same day as the conference. [✔] (This happened a couple of days prior, though.)
>Scalebound will get a gameplay demo and release date. Most likely late this year. [X] (This was confirmed to not be shown about a day or two after i made this post.)
>Phantom Dust is most likely dead, though they obviously wouldn't confirm it got cancelled during the conference. [?]
>The Gears Of War remaster will definitely get confirmed. Definitely coming out this year. [✔]
>Crackdown will get another CG trailer, with a release date of late next year. But at least we'll know who the devs are! [X] (See Scalebound.)
>Rock Band 4 will probably be the multiplatform game Microsoft moneyhats for timed exclusive content. Considering how close friends they are with Harmonix. [X]
>Forza 6 will definitely get a trailer, and a full release date. [✔]
>Quantum Break will get a new gameplay demo + Release Date, and the "surprise" announcement of an Alan Wake remaster for Xbox One. Available for free to everyone who pre-orders Quantum Break. [X] (See Scalebound, and i don't think the Alan Wake Remaster is happening either. Considering the surprise Backwards Compatibility reveal.)

Sony

>The yearly tradition of showing off an overly long gameplay demo of the latest Call Of Duty game will be passed into Sony's hands this time. [✔]
>Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is definitely getting a gameplay trailer, might segue into a gameplay demo for Uncharted 4 if we're lucky. [X] (We did get the Uncharted 4 gameplay demo though.)
>The Order: 1886 will get a sequel. Might not be revealed at E3 though. [X]
>There's going to be a big Indie highlight reel like last year, expect the Shadow of the Beast reimagining to be awkwardly moved into it. Oh, and maybe CamDrome. Assuming the latest yearly tease will finally lead to something. (I doubt it's a PS4 exclusive though, or even funded by Sony.) [X] (Microsoft had one, though.)
>Horizon (That secret project Guerrilla games is working on) will most likely be revealed. I have a feeling it won't come out this year. [✔]
>No Man's Sky will be back, with a release date and a beta for everyone who went to the theater experience. Expect negative impressions thanks to how overhyped it's gotten. [X] (While it was shown, everything else i said didn't happen.)
>Wipeout is coming back on PS4. Probably developed by Sony Bend. [X]
>Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will get one last gameplay demo (Most likely of Metal Gear Online, considering we haven't seen much of it.) as the game gears up towards launch. [X]
>The Last Guardian WILL NOT get shown, no matter how hard you pray to the Team Ico gods. [X]

Nintendo

>Roy will be revealed as DLC for Smash 4, right at the beginning, launching Next Month. [X] (Shown during a separate event, and was released the same day as Lucas.)
>Also, Ryu will be revealed, at the very end of the conference as the usual "one more thing", launching in August. [X] (See Roy.)
>Speaking of Smash, Downloadable stages will be happening, released in packs of 3. and with completely different packs for both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. The first 3DS pack will most likely have Dreamland 64, Ryu's stage from Street Fighter II, and one other stage i don't feel like guessing. [X] (Stage packs didn't happen + the stages are the same between the Wii U and 3DS versions.)
>Star Fox will finally get a gameplay trailer. Launching late this year. [✔]
>Project Giant Robot is going to completely separate from Star Fox as a small downloadable title. Project Guard, on the other hand, will be merged with Star Fox. [?] (Guard is still around, but they're "still figuring out if or how to release it in conjunction with Star Fox Zero", Giant Robot, however, is dead.)
>Mother and Mother 3 are finally coming to Virtual console. IN JAPAN ONLY. Don't worry though, cause a couple of months later, Mother will come to the US, as a slightly modified version of the English proto. Mother 3 would then come a couple of months after that, with a new translation made by Nintendo themselves. [✔] (While Mother 3 isn't coming, and it was released worldwide, i gave it a checkmark because it's still pretty shocking that i predicted Mother 1.)
>Zelda will finally get a full title and a trailer, launching mid Next Year. [X]
>Mario Maker will be revealed to have a Sprite editor for making custom graphics, with premade custom spritesets themed after other Nintendo games also being included. Alongside a Music editor for making custom music, and a basic logic editor for making custom objects/enemies (Mario himself, however, will be limited to the 4 previously announced Gameplay types as "custom" logic, alongside the newly revealed at the conference Mario Bros 2 gameplay type. You also can't make new Powerups.) [X] (Only thing i got right was making custom enemies, kind of.)
>Splatoon's Ika Musume costumes will stay in Japan. We in the US, however will receive exclusive Spongebob costumes. Launching the same day as the Ika Musume stuff. Europe won't get anything. [X]
>Pokken Tournament will be confirmed to be receiving a Wii U port early next year. With 3 new characters and Amiibo support (With a new line of Pokemon Amiibo revealed specifically for the game. Available as cards only.) added. [X]
>Project X Zone 2 will get a new trailer + Release Date. [X]
>Retro's new project will be revealed, and it will be a 2.5D Metroid game for 3DS. Launching early next year. [X] (A Metroid game is indeed happening on 3DS though. Even if it's not even remotely what people wanted.)
>Animal Crossing Wii U is finally happening, launching late this year with Amiibo support (Both those Animal Crossing cards and the Smash Bros Amiibo will work. The latter unlocking in-game clothing.) [✔] (Though again, it wasn't even remotely what people wanted, and i got the Amiibo features partially wrong.)

Everyone else

>Watch_Dogs 2 is happening unfortunately, and the series will be Ubisoft's new yearly franchise. [X]
>Beyond Good & Evil 2 isn't happening either, so pack that up. [✔]
>We'll finally get to see that Gameplay demo of Doom 4 shown privately at Quakecon last year. [✔]
>Also, Fallout 4 Gameplay demo. Release Date won't be confirmed though. [✔] (But we did, in fact, get a release date.)
>To cap those 2 major Beth conference things, they'll also reveal Dishonored 2. [✔]
>EA's conference will be the same junk as before, maybe we'll get a new Mirror's Edge 2 trailer if we're lucky, but it'll mostly just be SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS. [✔] (Unravel was a nice surprise at least.)
>I'm also not really expecting much out of the PC gaming show either. Microsoft will probably drop a few smaller titles coming to the Windows 10 store, and Devolver will definitely have a cool new indie. But it will mostly be just fluff. [✔] (Devolver didn't even reveal a new title.)
>And finally, Half-Life 3 is almost certainly not getting announced, stop asking for it. [✔]

Edit: i forgot to add the most important prediction. Taco Bell will be introducing the Quesalupa (or revealing the nationwide release date for it) a few days before the main conference quadrant (June 15th). Because they tend to introduce major new Menu items around E3 time. I'm not kidding. [✔] (Cap’n Crunch Delights)

The only positive thing I'm getting out of the Federation Force announcement, is that Nintendo at least somehow, somewhat, kinda still seems to care about Metroid in the context of making games in the series. Which is still better than what can be said about F-Zero. Anyway, I feel like it's the wrong game at the right time, being something with a rather tenuous connection to Metroid - name, the Galactic Federation, some stylistic elements, I might be missing something? - when the last "real" Metroid game came out 5 years ago, and had serious issues in multiple respects. Had they shown a teaser trailer for a new, regular Metroid game either at some point before, or right after Federation Force, I don't think this would've been received as badly as it was.

All that said, a petition to pressure Nintendo into cancelling the game? Aside from Nintendo not directly acting on petitions anyway, that's just stupid. If you don't want the game, don't buy it. I don't think I will. I'd rather buy a new collection of old games in a series which I might already have, but which are what I like to play, such as Mega Man Legacy Collection, than buying a new game that isn't at all what I want.

I feel the same about the new Metroid as I did the X-Com FPS when that still was a feel.

It might be fun, it might be great. But when people don't know if they're getting a "classic" one, they're gonna get scared about where the series is going.

If Nintendo just said "we're also working on a more conventional Metroid project, more to be announced" most of this bad-will would probably just be gone.

Still not sure about Mario Maker. They don't even have all the objects from SMB yet, never mind from the three other games.

I doubt having every single object is one of their goals with this game. A lack of slopes already means that recreating classic levels perfectly is impossible, but that's not the purpose of the game anyway. I don't think most people will mind if the game is missing obscure enemies like Fire Snake or Green Spiny Eggs.

There is one last row of objects that they didn't have unlocked at E3, so who knows what those last objects are. Considering the crown used to mark the row, they must be pretty special.

Considering the E3 build is very likely to be months old (as was the case with the E3 Smash Build) there's probably a handful of things we haven't seen.

That being said, the lack of slopes is a bit disappointing.

I'm also looking forward to slopes, but guys, I bet that anything we don't get in the release, we'll probably be getting as DLC. There's almost no way Nintendo won't make DLC for Mario Maker. Hopefully they'll be in the September release though.

Another thing that would be cool is a collectible like the Dragon coins of SMW and golden coins of NSMB.

I'd love DLC for the game, but I'm pretty sure they officially said in an interview that DLC for Mario Maker was not being considered.

If anything, the DLC they'd add would be a new theme (desert? snow?) and some more enemies (Flame Chomp, Bony Beetle, Fire Snake).

Meanwhile, Europe and Australia has already gotten Yoshi's Woolly World, a month before Japan and three whole months before the US.
