The "playable teaser" for Konami's upcoming horror game Silent Hills will be delisted from Sony's online marketplace in just four days.

The publisher posted a notice on the game's official website, announcing that come April 29, the "distribution period of 'P.T. (Playable Teaser)' on PlayStation Store will expire."

Ever since Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima's position over at Konami was first called into question, the future of Silent Hills, which Kojima was set to work on with Guillermo del Toro, has looked shaky at best.

Konami has yet to provide a formal update on the status of Silent Hills, but if the removal of P.T. from the PlayStation Store is any indication, the next entry in the long-running horror franchise could be a bit further off than fans had originally hoped.

Very disappointing to see this all happen, after the whole case of Kojima's position, I have to wonder if he'll continue working on stuff after all of this.

from this tweet

I loved P.T., and was excited to see something form del Toro and Kojima... It would've been fantastic.

guess we'll see how this pans out

Without Kojima, did you really expect Silent Hills to go anywhere? I didn't.

Sucks, but Konami hasn't really done much otherwise these days to even be relevant. Metal Gear seems to be the only thing that pops up in my head.

Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.

In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.

People added it to their PSN accounts to download later when they got a PS4, but you can no longer download it even if you have before.

And there are reports that some people can't even play it even though they downloaded it prior to its removal. The demo is just unplayable period.

Don't know how accurate that last statement is but yes, you can no longer download P.T. ever again.

EDIT: Turns out that if you downloaded it, it has an expiration date before you can no longer play it.

that's some reeeeeaaaaal horse shit if it's true, but

there's this tweet that shows an explicit expiration date

But my own copy of it doesn't have that information. And someone within that conversation mentioned their copy of Bloodborne having an expiration date, too.

can't really make heads or tails of this

Good job, Konami, good job.
I'm not a very big fan of horror games (I'll admit it, I get too scared playing these games), but I remember that P.T. was a very good teaser for Silent Hills. The ending was about the only thing people critized about it, probably because it was too complicated, but it actually made people believe that a good game was being made. Then...nope. Nope. So much nope.

No, there's no expiration date. Many other people didn't have this expiration date. There was an expiration date because of PS Plus. That's all.

Hey guys can i join the rapid post party too?

Well that's pretty shitty, because i'd imagine even if you managed to get the game loaded on your PS4 (I.E. By burrowing someone else's back-up PS4 external drive with the game.) You still wouldn't be able to play it due to it being tied to the other person's account.

I'd say that if there hasn't been any ongoing attempts at softmodding the PS4, now would be A VERY GOOD TIME to start one. To make sure this is playable by everyone for the rest of human history. (Plus, we might be able to find a couple of remnants of Silent Hills lurking in the files too.)

I agree with you, but wait, people still haven't hacked the PS4? Really? I mean, I thought that people would've hacked it already, but I guess not since I haven't heard any news about it yet.

In my defense, I didn't even know PS Plus existed until today! :specialed: Welp, that makes more sense actually, but still, image how funny (or maybe terrible, depends) it would be if Konami actually forced P.T. to automatically uninstall after a certain time.

_"the game cannot be re-downloaded if you choose to delete it from your system" well that's a shame, I remember on Xbox Live when they'd remove store games / items but you'd be able to re-download them because they would just hide items instead of actually completely remove them

That's normally the case on PSN as well, this is certainly outside the usual circumstances.

Talked to a friend about it, the only time he's heard about something like this was when Square Enix removed a terribad RTS because the servers officially went offline which rendered the online-only game useless.

But this is a demo, not a full game, which makes me wonder why they went as far as making it a non-redownloadable item. Hell, that Phantasy Star Universe Demo is still re-downloadable even though it's absolutely unplayable because the servers are dead. I hope this doesn't catch on with publishers in general, I personally see no reason to restrict those who 'own' a license to that product from re-downloading that product when desired, that's some strict stuff.
