He just posted again, saying his phone broke... I REALLY want to believe him, I really really do, but his phone happening to be broken? My hopes have already dropped, but there's still a tiny bit of me that still thinks this could be real.

Well it seems he's just gotten back on the computer and is starting to answering everyone, he claims to be getting a new phone on sunday. He's swearing he's not lying, and talking about how how the cart starts up with a black screen and goes to a level select screen.

If this is a game he's playing, it's a sick sick game.

I'm really losing my patience, he's claiming that the original 2013 image of the script is his and that he uploaded it to imgur in 2012 and that whoever posted it stole it from him. uh huh...

Hey everybody, so I'm new here, but I've been following this thread since a year ago. Finally I decided to register and comment since this dude CuriousLugia came and said he's got a DP cart.
So the thing is I've been reading his tweets and I almost believed him, until it snapped, I had to check the script's picture's metadata. Sooo... the picture may not be his. He's claming he took it circa 2012, while the picture's metadata (the one uploaded on assemblers, because the one he uploaded doesn't even have that data) says it was taken on November 10th, 2013, at about noon. I don't trust that guy anymore.

Not sure if this was posted before, but CDF Private posted the source code to his Adventure model ripper (converts zlib compressed models/maps to maya files). I think there were some people looking for this, so you can grab it here. What makes this unique is that it can actually map whatever is in the TEX files to the ripped model. The only problem with this as far as the kiosk demo goes is that the kiosk demo contains a mixture of LZO and raw model files, which this program doesn't support at the moment.

Also, I want to take another shot at getting the music to sound right. Does anyone have KCat's midi/soundfont ripping tools on hand?

I started to think more about why these old DP files were included in the demo. To me, it's starting to seem like when they initially started development on SFA, they lifted all their assets from Dinosaur Planet and worked with them until they decided to split the files apart into their own folders and used the MusyX engine. The BLOCKS.bin, for instance, seems to contain Dinosaur Planet maps but it seems that they were changing/using those when the game was actually SFA (for instance, look at the Cloudrunner Fortress maps and notice that the models of the Cloudrunner statues are using the high poly SFA models). This would also explain why MPEG.bin contains a mixture of DP dialog and rerecorded SFA dialog. When they decided to restructure the game, the files from the old versions were left behind until someone was halfassed to clean it up.

This is just a theory though, but it would explain why the files are the way they are.

Man I honestly can't wait for this Lugia kid on twitter to get ripped. He's pulling all the salty excuses here just to stall while he tries to fake up some more pictures.

Anyway, that's a pretty good theory there koollaidman. Also thanks for sharing the ripper!

Dude same, I've been checking his twitter all day. Today's the day he's supposed to upload pictures and videos, and he hasn't posted anything or answered anyone yet today, and its already almost 2. I have the feeling he's just gonna give us a rick roll link.

Found some footage of early starfox adventures we may have not seen yet here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsUCHr-mwtU skip to around the 8 minuet mark for a 2 minuet trailer of Starfox Adventure. Shows of early player hud and very early Arwing gameplay. I would just embed it but I don't know how to.

I doubt he owns a Cart since he seems to be only Talk, first he wanted to take a Picture but magically.. his Phone broke.. yeah right, sure, how Random.
Funny how his "Friends" only seem to own Cameras from the 90s and such.
What a phony.
Now its Sunday.. and there are no claims, only his excuses.
I already kinda thought this cant be real.. a Ex-Rare Dude selling a one of a Kind Demo/Proto Build on a Garage Sale years ago? Yeah right.. and im Santa Claus.
When i read the Twitter Conversations, i knew its fake.
Unless he magically pulls out a Picture out of nowhere.. which i highly doubt.

The footage shown there is also on IGN's channel, along with shorter videos showing a slighty more advanced build.

Just so you guys know. Some of that is already on the prerelease section. Much of the stuff in that playlist needs to be added there though. As for the prototype stuff, I always wanted to get around to that, but there are also loads of other things I've been focused on recently.

Sorry for my english, it's not my native language, and i'm kinda bad with that, so yeah, i'm really sorry.

anyway, i'm a fan of dinosaur planet since maybe 1 year and i'm really angry of this story, there is a lot of proof that it's a fake, first, if he got the game in 2012 then he was only 12 year old , how could he know that it was someone from rare ( an ex employee i mean) ....the funny thing is that he said that he got the game for almost nothing... and in the Massachusetts ... really? i mean, the employee probably know that the game is ULTRA RARE ( pretty sure that there is no copy of it...sadly)

and if the cadridge is a prototype why he just didn't noticed it? i mean when you get a cadridge x2 bigger than the other, you just... notice the diference.

then why he waited 3 year?if he have the name of the game, did he waited 3 year to type it on google?

Again, if he got the game with the script (Yes i know its a fake, but i'm playing his game, don't know if it's an english expression...anyway...i mean, let's imagine it's a true story .........lol.) why did he posted it on the web, then took back the same picture 3 years later? then he said "i didnt know this game" ...

Gnn i'm really mad at this fat lugia, i can't wait to see his twiter getting deleted or his excuse,

Again i'm sorry for my english, i'm doing my best, sorry if your eyes burn right now i'm sadly too far for help you about that :C

I'm also rather suspicious about this whole ordeal, but I'm willing to give him a couple of weeks before I call him off. CuriousLugia's situation is not looking too good so far.

Well. That ended well. -__-

Then again, CuriousLugia appears to have always been your average teenager. I'm not shocked by this in the slightest, as he likely thinks trolling people is funny.

well, now that that is over...

What all is everyone up to? I do know that there is still a lot to document on TCRF, which I would prolly do myself if I had more spare time... And a couple more things to look into, with there possibly being a debug mode in default.dol and, uh, was the model format ever fully figured out?

Some people have been asking for my soundfont extraction code, so I've cleaned up and packaged the latest version of what I have:

http://kcat.strangesoft.net/extract-audio.7z - This link should be fairly permanent, so it shouldn't go away any time soon.

This is just the source, no binaries. To build it, you'll need CMake. It's been written using GCC, although I'm not aware of anything that should prevent MSVC from building it. The only hard requirement is C++11 support. The package contains a handful of command-line utilities:

extract-bin - Extracts the individual entries from .tab/.bin files. You'll need to use this on MUSIC.tab/.bin for the music soundfont. AMBIENT.tab/.bin contains the ambient soundfont. AUDIO.tab/bin contains the sequences. It will output the raw files to a sub-directory taken from the bin name.

extract-audio - Extracts soundfonts and midis. Requires the individual files to be extracted from the aforementioned MUSIC, AMBIENT, and AUDIO bins. For the music soundfont, you'd run:

extract-audio --makesf2 MUSIC/00000000_0.raw MUSIC/0001f750_1.raw

and for the ambient soundfont:

extract-audio --makesf2 AMBIENT/00000000_0.raw AMBIENT/000067c0_1.raw

Both of these commands will create soundfont.sf2. Make sure to move/rename the generated soundfont before making the other!

For the music MIDIs, you'd run:

extract-audio --midi AUDIO/0000e000_01.raw

and for the ambient MIDIs:

extract-audio --midi AUDIO/000b8a78_02.raw

Both of these will write a bunch of numbered .mid files to the current folder, so again, make sure to move the generated files before making the others.

!!! WARNING !!!
The generated MIDI files are inherently broken! Standard MIDI files do not have any controls for track loops, which the original sequences make a lot of use of. I have not found any well-supported MIDI-compatible format that does, so the only real way to properly play them is to make a player that can handle the sequence data directly. Additionally, since the sequences use channel 10 for melodic instruments, it requires a MIDI device that can both load the appropriate soundfont and set channel 10 to use melodic instrument banks (such as those that support the GM 2 specification). These files will not play as intended!

midplay - Intended to play the music sequences, or render them to wave files. However, it requires a development build of OpenAL Soft that has experimental MIDI support to work (the prebuilt binaries do not have this). It could be rewritten to use fluidsynth instead, but that's not easy to get working on Windows. That said, the code is there if you're curious about how it's played... you'd be interested in the Track, TrackReader, Song, and Playlist classes in main.h/midi.cpp, and the Player class in main.h/midplay.cpp (note that the app sends a "GM2 On" SysEx event before playing the sequence data, so it can set the percussion channel to melodic bank 0 when doing a program change on it).

The package also contains:

decomp-zlb - Decompresses zlib-compressed files extracted from bins. None of MUSIC, AMBIENT, or AUDIO bins have compressed entries, though some of the other bins do, so it's there if you want to play around with them. Requires zlib to build.

view-model - A viewer of the individual model files extracted from MODELS.bin and elsewhere. Don't bother with this. It's old and outdated, and other tools in this topic do a far better job at handling them. I just leave it here as a personal reference to the data format. Requires SDL and Ogre3D to build.

convert-midis.sh - A bash script to batch convert the sequence data to wav files. Requires midplay to be working. It's also a bit broken in that it won't properly split sequences 63 (Discovery Falls), 68 (Earthwalker Temple), and 73 (Dark Ice Mines).

dp-track-list.txt - A list of Dinosaur Planet music tracks (sequences) I've been able to match to a name based on the one-hour gameplay video and other pre-release sources (I do not consider SFA material as an authoritative source, since I know some songs have been shifted around and removed after DP started transitioning to SFA. It's intended to be used with midplay's --song-list option, but it's human-readable if you want to take a look.
