It turns out there are 4 maps in TRACKS.BIN:
0) Dragon Forest (0x0)
http://i.gyazo.com/31df40aaebda29467e0cade60dcc0210.png
1) Front End (0x4730)
http://i.gyazo.com/e41e862a867272a022454bbf9de26b24.png
2) ? (0x4890) There's an error in compression, but it still seems to rip if brute forced. I don't know what this is.
http://i.gyazo.com/0f548d248f29970fdc2d5059f2cc0de9.png
3) ? (0x9DF0) Not sure what it is

Anyone recognize last 2?

Well, hope you guys enjoyed that, another mystery solved. Here's the obj/mtl, I don't have the images though (maybe someone here does), if you have them can rename to the mtl file ones to see.

Well, that's it, last remnants of the N64 engine map geometry...

Cool, I had a feeling those were DKR related. Kinda weird how there are only a few maps in there though. TEX.BIN and this might go together since they are both dated from the same time period. It hasn't changed in size since Jan 6 1999 (according to 'out'), so that's kind of odd too. The 'out' log is definitely a remnant from early in development, as a lot of the files that could be from DP and DKR have changed file sizes (a lot of them shrunk in size in comparison to what we have now). I take it anything dated from Jan 1999 on the log is from DKR.

Now the only other mystery I can think of is STORYBOARD.BIN.

Unfortunately images don't align to the maps - must not be from the same version. I ripped all the textures, I think they are a better rip than the previous one, but I was not sure xDaniel's latest rip:

I don't recognize Storyboard.

There's also DB_TEXTURES, which appears to be a pretty simple format (starts with a count, then offsets to images, which are width, height, format, then pixel data starting on the next 64-bit (8 byte) alignment. Though that only contains 29 textures, which is much too small for the indices you've mentioned. There's also the TEXTABLE.bin and DB_TEXTAB, which sound like some kind of texture table lookup, but I can't see what purpose they actually have.

This was apparently found back in 2012 but I sure haven't seen it so thought I'd share. This guy found an E3 2000 "survival" kit and it includes items related to games that were shown there. The most interesting one being, of course, the dinosaur puzzle included because of Dinosaur Planet. The owner doesn't plan on opening it but holy shit am I curious about that puzzle. It could just be a generic puzzle or it could have some never-before-seen DP artwork on it.

The puzzle is the red box in the front. Does anyone perhaps recognize it, or have they seen it opened? Or maybe somebody knows how to contact this guy and ask him to take closer pictures?

I just contacted him...

"That was sold a long time ago, never opened it up. "

Well, damn...

EDIT1: And the puzzle is appearantly the only thing he ever had.

EDIT2: I asked if he remembered the puzzle picture: "I have no other information than any screenshots you've found, sorry bud. "

Well, that went... "well"...

That guy is DEFINITELY not in SFA, i am 100% sure. Very out of place looking, too! I can't see where a mechanical scorpion would fit in very well.

He looks quite similar, both graphically and anatomically, to a black scorpion model found a while back on a former dev's website. Although clearly, these are not the same models.

and @ kett: Good job getting a hold of him!! absolute shame to hear that though, hopefully whoever owns it now has a picture of it floating out there somewhere. I've been doing my own research on it, nothing very interesting but I have reason to believe that there is a chance it was a Dinosaur Planet puzzle. Because of the box shape (the flap on top and its overall size) is extremely similar, if not the same, as a line of Pokemon puzzles Hasbro made back when Pokemon was big, around 2000 and the same time this E3 kit was given out. Stands to reason that Nintendo, already having ties with Hasbro, would have them make a DP puzzle.

I really don't think they'd get Hasbro to make a Dinosaur Planet puzzle with box and all, just for advertising an in-progress game at E3.

They probably just included the first dinosaur-themed kids puzzle they could find...

Ah, cool! Perhaps those are meant to be far away from the player?

Bits of the level data for the desert folder, while missing textures here and there, looks nothing like a desert. This is a bit of mod7.zlb.bin.

Replacing map data usually gives me scrambled blocks of the map...

Huh. That's Ocean Force Point Temple in SFA, and due to the appearance of a RedEye in one of the promo images, I assumed that Oceanpoint in SFA was originally DP's Walled City; though, since that was in the Desert folder, maybe it was actually the Desert Force Point Temple? Thinking more about it, the weird oasis motif in Oceanpoint could also fit a desert theme...

Coincidentally, that map there looks a lot like the level in the Pelagic II in Perfect Dark. The areas near the portals, specifically. It could probably be lined up to those... and that most recent model? That looks ripped out of the very first entry tunnel in the Pelagic II level, looking outwards.

Man, they really reused a lot of the Pelagic II, didn't they?

That depends, Lyskar. The teams at Rare were split into camps who never shared assets or devs, and we know the peeps who worked on DP also worked on diddy kong racing... I don't remember offhand how the games were all broken up, but there was a Goldeneye/Perfect Dark team, a banjo/gonkey kong team, and the Conker team iirc...

also random knowledge, some Jet Force Gemini assets were used as placeholders in DP at some point

Is there a soundfont available for this? If so, was it built manually, or was the instrument definition table figured out?

Edit: Never mind, found the answer.

Fun fact, Greenwood Village was reused and mostly unmodified in Jet Force Gemini as an unlockable racing stage thing

and i already mentioned there are a couple JFG things that were used as placeholders in DP (like a ship being used for the prison ship that carries Tricky in the beginning) so this might be more placeholder assets

So does anyone know where IOnEI Falcon found the one hour of DP footage? I've been comparing scenes from it, the official trailer, and other videos, and there are clear differences that make me think the one hour dp video is the oldest build of DP we've seen.

on the right are screenshots from the 1 hour video, left are from trailer.

With number one, you see huge differences. The sky is black, the ship is completely different, the Sharpclaw on the right is holding a weapon, and there's a tractor beam coming from the ship. On the image in the right, the ship is from Jet Force Gemini, meaning it was most definitely a place holder.

Second image, there aren't many clear differences. The models for the sharpclaw look quite different between the two.

Third image, you can clearly tell that one is at sunset and the other is not.

Fourth image, the Galdon's model appears to be the same but this footage is not the same as whats used for the trailer. In the 1 hour footage, there are orbs on the ground.

With five, you can tell these are the same scene because of the lighting, but the fireballs are in completely different parts. This is the same frame mind you, so by the time the fire balls reach her face in the second image, shes ducked down.

Sixth image, the triceratops has different eyes. Also her eye texture glitches a lot in the 1 hour footage, something not seen in the trailer.

In the seventh image, I managed to catch these two images in the same exact frame. The textures for Discovery Falls are completely different between the two! Also the one hour footage has strange wires?? and an unfinished bridge.

So basically what I'm getting at here is that some people thought that a lot of what we saw in the one hour video was used for the trailer, but I don't think that's true. I think the 1 hour video is from a much earlier build. Please excuse me if this is not news, but I was unaware of this until now and I thought others might find this interesting as well.

I'm not sure if it was expressly stated, but me and FYeahDinosaurPlanet came to an agreement that the 1hr footage is earlier stuff. When it first shows Warlock Mountain the texturing and model is different than the later clips as well.
