So I finally decided to download The Sims 2 Ultimate Edition which I got for free. It's 12GB, and it's downloading at an average speed of about 18mb/s, the speeds peaked at 25mb/s.

Gotta love university internet!

I've been doing some malware testing on a Windows 98 VM today.

There's a catch though: I'm trying to make actual videos of these thingys.

Since they're the very first malware-testing videos I ever made (excluding the not-on-YouTube adware/PUP extravaganza video), the quality may suffer. Maybe.

The past few days have been rough but I'm glad we're over the hump.

I'm about to start my real college experience. It's exciting. But right now I'm just chilling, enjoying my last laid back Friday this summer and drinking a mimosa while listening to some film soundtracks (Her by Arcade Fire, Prince Avalanche by Explosions in the Sky). It's just so chill, man. Tomorrow I'm going to two parties and Sunday it's supposed to be gorgeous and warm. Maybe I'll hit the beach? I've got two rolls of 800 ISO lomo 35mm film still. I am going to capture so many nostalgic images that I'll pin onto my wall later. I hope they come out super-saturated like the work of William Eggleston.

Gotta love Sims 2. Haven't played Sims 3 so I can't confirm if even better, but Sims 2 is miles above The Sims and The Sims 4. (I mean... they've nerfed death and demoted babies back to objects and removed toddlers entirely. And let's not get started on the lack of pools.)

Setting up a VM with Windows XP Scammer Edition. I've been watching videos of what they do and I had my way through to deny all of that thanks to the power of Resource Hacker, Regedit.exe, and that you can replace system files after praying to Windows File Protection not to destroy your progress.

And if someone wants a screenshot, well...

It doesn't matter though, since I'm going to add more junk anytime soon.

You can when you have a folder with nearly 400GB of Virtual Machines and ISOs. You can imagine how the same files can be accidentaly put into different ISOs (and also because I had some stuff burned on CDs and I never bothered to delete the ISO until very recently. Then there are the old/useless/broken VMs that I also never bothered to delete because the VM folders were, and still are, a mess. )

Also, I've converted many videos to audio tracks some time ago to save space. The unneeded videos do count.

On a final note, the post wasn't updated, as I deleted more that 60GB at the end. The end result was almost 90GB for both partitions.

Got a brand new laptop from PCSpecialist! Core i7, 8GB DDR3 RAM, GTX 850M graphics, 15.6" 1920x1080 IPS display and a free copy of Windows 8.1 from MSDNAA! Pretty powerful laptop, and Win8.1 is a great OS. It expires next November, but Windows 10 should be out by then, so I'll likely upgrade both my laptop and my desktop.

So wait, is it just for your computer for whatever reason or are they doing this more widely? Because if it's the latter then it's complete bullshit. Like hell I'm going to buy a subscription for something that essentially makes my computer a computer and not a case with fancy tech inside it.

Noting this since I am considering buying a new laptop. Not immediately, but within 3-9 months. Might attempt to get Windows 10 because I really do not believe in 8, though I should also consider noodling around in Windows 8 so I at least know how to navigate it in case I have to one of these days.

Just for me. Being in University allows me access to a lot of free software, including tons of Microsoft stuff, like Visual Studio, and Windows 8. The tradeoff is that it has an expiration date. I first downloaded Win8.1 last year, so it expires next year.

I've been mirroring folders from various ftp recently. This is because of me trying to catalogue a near infinite amount of Win16 software, among other things.

The problem is that it's easier to download files than to split them into different categories, so the files start to pile up... :/
