IT'S OUT!!

Leading up to the launch of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS in Japan and soon after North America, I decided we needed a thread specifically for the game to share information, discuss and eventually prepare matches when the game eventually releases. Recently a demo of Smash 3DS showed up on the Japanese eShop, so expect a western demo soon!

I think everyone by now knows about the leaked roster and other such information. Personally I don't care about such information being talked about but for the sake of others, I'd suggest spoiler tagging it.

So yeah! Who's got their copies on pre-order? Anyone planning on grabbing one of those special Smash 3DS XLs? Personally, my copy has already been pre-ordered, though it might not show up on release day exactly.

I'm skipping the 3DS version for the WiiU one, but at release I'll be going to a Smash 4 release party (fancy name for a small gathering with friends who are getting it) so I'll be able to try out the game regardless.

There's... a lot of characters I wanna play as, even ignoring the extra leak ones! I wanna get back into playing as Link (decent in Melee but bad in Brawl, though he's fun in Project M) and see if Olimar is still good (my main in vanilla Brawl), but I'm also very interested in maining Villager and possibly Robin or Shulk.

Personally, I'm hyped to play as Palutena and Little Mac most. A couple dudes who got to play the Japanese demo over at TGS(?) say that both are really good, though Palutena might be a bit too good.

If it weren't for the fact that I don't like to pay more than ~$15 for anything on Nintendo Digital, I'd probably get a digital copy though.

I was holding out hope that there would be a Super Mario RPG stage with Geno as a playable character. Anyways, I'm getting the 3DS and Wii U version. Hopefully the demo is coming on Friday (coinciding with an announced Treehouse Direct) ... not holding my breath. I have a spare 3DS that I'd wipe/restart just to reset 3DS Smash's demo counter.

I'm glad that both toon link and lucario makes a return, as those and kirby were the characters I played the most in brawl. (Though, I played the most with squirtle in project M but, ya know. Not happening...)

I'm also looking forward to robin and luciana as playable characters, they both seem interesting enough to give a try!
I kind of want the 3DS version, that and I don't have a wii u! The city trial mode specifically is something I really want! But, to be honest, I don't want to play smash on handheld, I want to play that with a GC controller. ._.;

So anyone managed to get ahold of the special (unlimited) demo of the game?

I find it surprisingly that it plays fine, as I thought there could be lag (like pokemon), but nope.

Getting used to the 3DS controls is a bit hard after using a GCN controller since ever.

I just wish the demo had at least another playable stage... :<

Still, I find the demo to be enjoyable, even if its restrictive. But hey, it at least has local multiplayer.

The controls take some getting used to. The 3DS version pretty much convinced me to get the Wii U version. It looks fine with 1-2 players on screen but when it zooms out with 4 players, it does get a little hard to see. It's a shame the demo doesn't allow the player to adjust the outlines (does however, let you select a character on the touch screen while playing and have a reticle hover around it).

I looked a streams on Twitch and Hitbox. There's quite a bit of lag (can be due to a lot of different circumstances). I know Sakurai mentioned in the April Direct that ethernet is ideal for the Wii U version ... eh, the 3DS version is kind of SoL. N3DS does have an updated WiFi module, so it'll be interesting how much of the lag is server side or just do to the device performance.

There's pictures already circulation of people snapping of their Circle Pads while playing. I can believe it. In order to run in the game, it requires a lot of quick movement ... often flicking it quickly in one direction to get to full speed.

I wish the demo had a practice mode. The closest thing the demo has to one is the warm up before a 2-4 player wireless match. If you have two systems, might give it a try because it allows you unlimited time to try an entire character's moveset.

Having a blast with the Platinum demo thanks to Luca. Really warmed up to Link, especially his grab. Cannot wait for the final game to come out, hard to believe it's still 2 weeks away. Ughhh.

I managed to obtain a Japanese copy of the game, and I have to say, the demo really does not portray the game well. The game plays really well, and I've been enjoying the heck out of it.

I guess that my only complaint is that you cant use the D pad to move...

The 3DS circle pad doesnt seem to hold that well for smash...

I fear it might snap off :x

I've been playing the Club Nintendo demo for a while now, and this game already seems great. I think the Wii U version is going to be the best entry in the entire series; can't wait to use dat C-Stick.

Same here! I got myself a Wii just for Brawl, and recently a 3DS just for the newest SSB. I believe the Wii U will have to wait due to insufficient funds, but sooner or later I'm sure to get my hands on that as well.

Pretty much the same. I got a Wii U for smash mainly.

But im looking foward to giving it a try to the other games (3D world, LEGO city undercover, Darksiders II...)



Also, supposedly the wii u version releases 21 november. I wonder how true is that. But it would be nice, as the sooner, the better :3

I might be receiving my copy a bit earlier though, my copy just shipped out today and it's already in a nearby city... so this either means it'll show up at my door tomorrow or it'll get lost in the void never to be seen again.

I'm going physical rather than digital. Call me old fashioned but I prefer physical over digital if I have the option. It'll be showing up by the end of the day tomorrow(or today I should say).

Hopefully the circle pad on my 3DS doesn't turn to trash after this.
