Finished playing through Outlast! Red Barrels did a great job in the survival horror genre.

After playing Super Pac-Man, I can say it's a shame the game didn't take off.

Sure, the gameplay may be different and the first few levels are absurdly easy (especially in the Namco version, where "Hold A to boost and win level"), but the game was innovative for its formula.

That said, what's worse is that most of the official ports were crap and didn't do justice to the game. They were also based on the Midway version, which removed half of the fun by taking out the boost button.

As I said on IRC earlier, I finished Sonic Spinball again, but this time I set a challenge: to get all the rings in the first and third level. I made it - somehow.

No way I'm risking to get them all on Lava Powerhouse, or (sigh) the final level.

Anyway, this playthrough took me a very long time, especially with the final level, where Sonic had a tendency to go to the left path, making me lose more time.

On the bright side, I didn't lose a single life in that level.

Oh boy. Neverball. I hate this game.

I could just go on and on about the infamous slow keyboard and insanely fast "touch it and you die" mouse that is required for later levels. Or the community thinking everyone playing the game is an expert so there shouldn't be a way to ease things up in a way like Ballance does (realistic friction, anyone?) because "Super Monkey Ball does it like this blah blah so we can't make the game easier blah blah". Oh god what a good way to close the doors to newcomers.

...but I still play it since it's fun. Incredibly frustrating but fun.

Still, this may be just me since I grew up not with Neverball, but uh, other games.

I played Penumbra: Overture for a little while. It was awful. Those helpless survival horror games are usually pretty obtuse, but this is 80s point and click adventure pointless. All that having to put items together in the right order and and spending hours searching for one thing that can be found only in one small spot that's easily overlooked. I like exploring and I love when there are rewards for looking in unconventional places, but the game should come to a screeching halt until you move everything off a bookshelf and find a piece of string hidden in amongst a pile of items you can't interact with. What kind of a design is that?

Trying yet again to get into Trails in the Sky. Vita as expected is more suited to make its small fixed-width text look decent than XRGB, which I finally ordered a SCART adapter for.
Genesis everdrive has sat unused too long.

Darn! x 10

While recording a playthrough of Sega Smashpack for the GBA (specifically a certain game, but it may be obvious by now) I had accidentaly held select with a key I don't remember, returning to the game selection screen and ruining one of my best runs of *that* game. I hate I didn't know that, since I've always thought the only way to return to the game selection screen was to reset the game.

sigh

Wario Land 4 on Hard Mode.

There is also a Super Hard Mode that I never beat but I need to unlock it first. From what I remember, it is fiendishly difficult.

I'll let you remember one thing I'll never forget about S-Hard Mode:

15 seconds to beat the first boss. That is all I need to say to give an idea how cheap it is. And the items cost the double than in normal mode.

Also, "minor" things such as moving some frog timers at the start of the level, making the gold crown quite difficult to get with the already little time they give.

I never got past the first boss.

Minecraft Alpha 1.2.6, although not much these times.

I built several buildings interconnected by tunnels. Might show screenshots if people are interested.

Oh yeah, I remember this too! I don't think it is actually possible to get past the first boss on SH mode unless you use an item. Even then it is hard since one hit and you are dead. It really pushes your limits. I just need to unlock this mode.

There are some videos on Youtube that show you can beat the first boss. Who knows if those videos use savestates.

It's easy to get bounced off and that's what made me retry every time. At least they could have made you retry on the fly instead of watching the animations all over again. :/

Good luck with that. I remember having quite a bit of trouble getting all of the gold crowns and defeating every boss without losing a treasure chest.

In fact, I actually still have my cartridge with my completed S-Hard save, complete with crown cursor and everything, along with the Hard save that I used to unlock S-Hard. I must have used an item at some point since my S-Hard save has about 9k coins less than my Hard save and 2 medals, while I never bought items during my Hard run, having 0 medals in that save.

I kind of want to play through S-Hard again, but I also don't want to go through that frustration again.

I have my cartridge too! I also still have my GBA SP. I have no idea how the battery still holds a charge but I can actually get a decent play time out of it. The battery in my fat DS can barely last 10 minutes now.

Oh I agree but half the fun is getting your ass kicked. The game puts up a fight and you have to really fight back.

Payday 2, and quite a bit actually. That and I started playing Twilight Princess (GCN) again, having never actually finished it the first time through. This time however, it's through the magic of modern emulation.

Nothing consistently, because I apparently have gaming ADD or something. The most often played are Battlefield 4, Titanfall, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Project M, of course) and Diablo III. Occasional things like Minecraft, Total War: Rome II and Civilization V. A ton of other things mixed in depending on my mood.
