Type site:jul.rustedlogic.net "search terms here" in Google. It also helped that this forum isn't psychotic about Google crawling it.

That's not an anti-piracy screen, it's a region lockout screen (like you might see when inserting an NTSC cart into a PAL console). Not particularly noteworthy, unless it's not actually used by the game.

You need to use [ img ] [ /img ] tags without the space, just put it directly in there and it'll do this. Does this site have [ shot ] tags or no?

It is. I loaded the US ROM into BSNES, forcing PAL mode, and it booted to that screen.

Game & Watch Gallery 2 has a completely programmed very hard mode for all modern ball stages! Still, I'm trying to figure out a way to access the remnants of the Peach Stage.

Hi all; I've got something to share, though it may have already been submitted. I can't find any trace of it on the wiki though.

Back during the launch period for the SNES Nintendo used to include marketing posters with most UK games. I must've had a dozen of these things before they stopped including them, but I've only just recently found one of them. The poster advertised six games: F-Zero, Super Tennis, Super Soccer, Super R-Type, SimCity SNES, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I am completely unfamiliar with all of these games save for ALttP, but back even then I noticed that the promo screenshots were different to the final game's.

The possibility that these four screenshots may be composited bullshots hasn't escaped me, but it is possible that they are from an early prototype version. There's significant differences in the HUD and the layout of the areas featured. By far the most obvious changes are that the magic meter is actually a bottle, and a different Master Sword pedestal.

Here's a link to an album with all four screenshots, as well as my observations. I may get around to uploading the screenshots for the other five games on the poster when I'm not surrounded by folks complaining about a loud scanner, but as I mentioned I'm completely unfamiliar with the games in question.

That sound a lot like a poster packaged with the SNES in Germany, although yours seems to have different ALttP screenshots. GlitterBerri has those from my German poster, and a few others, on her website... even though some of the images seem to be dead, for some reason.

And here's a photo of the whole poster, by the way.

Yep, the Hyrule Castle is the only screenshot I've never seen.

Most of the screenshots on that German poster feature on my UK one. The DE poster only has three shots per game while the UK one has four. Neither poster has any of the F-Zero screenshots in common, all three Super Tennis, Super Soccer, and Super R-Type are shared, and the first and third SimCity screenshots appear.

Not exactly unused content, but rather hidden/easter egg stuff in Pokémon Crystal. The places are respectively: top floor of the Celadon Mansion, the former Daycare in Route 5 and the Fishing Guru's house in Vermilion City. I am guessing this is easter egg stuff because no one would randomly check a wall in the Mansion, a door that is not locked and a random Town Map in a house.
Another theory is that probably the former Daycare was originally a locked building like the Underground Path or the Bike Shop, but the developers forgot to remove the signpost data on the door when they added the interior, or maybe is a joke based on the fact that the old lady inside tells the player his life is in danger.
The Mansion text doesn't exist in Gold and Silver, because the top floor design is strangely different, so maybe is an easter egg based on the redesign, or probably the floor was different and it was probably planned somewhere else. These three signposts are absent in HeartGold too, except for a book with a similar picture in Vermilion.
I found these strings of dialogue in the Crystal text dump and then checked the signposts using a map editor, I would have never found them without. I don't know if someone already knows about that but it was a pretty random and fascinating thing to me.

Recently I discovered a whole mess of unlicensed hacks of games and unlicensed ports of games. I'm only interested in this particular one due to some weirdness it has going on.

Darkwing Duck for SEGA Mega Drive\Genesis is a port of the NES game of the same name. Graphics weren't touched, stages are mostly intact, and the basics of the original game are actually in place and don't glitch out that often.

I am curious on how the game's choice of BGM works. I've experimented and it seems to work on two mechanisms: Seems to depend on the current frame, or an internal timer, and perhaps whether or not a particular amount of buttons are being held? Maybe a combination of all of them? I've heard 9 unique tracks so far, one of which is actually a fair remix of Liquidator's stage BGM. The rest seem to be ports from other games, if they aren't original tracks entirely.

EDIT: I've made a YouTube playlist for the music I've been able to trigger.

That's because it's ported, though also a little enhanced.

Matches the original's tempo pretty much dead on, too. Though it seems this pirate's sound engine has some flaws, as looping causes a brief hit of lag in the music.

I know it's ported, I'm just saying they actually put some work into it. :p

Some Xena Warrior Princess game apparently has some "naughty" developer files hidden away, if we are to trust some random internet citizen's post.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/23sfim/13_years_after_release_this_old_and_amazing_cdi/ch06e9g

This is not uncommon.

Back when I was working QA for a very large publisher on a shovelware game based on a very popular movie series, I managed to find some questionable material in one of the game files. As part of QA, my job was to look at everything. Poke everything. Do everything I'm not supposed to. My job was to break the game in every conceivable way.

It turns out one of the developers must have had a Xena crush, because lo and behold, there was some questionable content involving Xena, Warrior Princess in one of the game archives.

Not outright porn, but I wouldn't call it SFW either. This wasn't in the gameplay of the game, but it quite literally was in the game. It was in one of the archive files.

The "fix" for this problem was to encrypt the archive files so they could not be opened or extracted. I'm pretty sure they launched the game with the Xena pictures still buried in the archive somewhere.

In this tale, details have been obfuscated for obvious reasons.

Actually, he said it was "a shovelware game based on a very popular movie series" with Xena pictures inside. So, uh, good luck figuring that one out.
