While I use to work at a project known as Super Mario Galaxy 2.5, the project has since been cancelled due to lack of progress, we didn't even get one galaxy done.
But a user known as Marionumber1 managed to pull of something great, he added back in the Red Star and the Ice Flower in Super Mario Galaxy 2. I thought i'd show this around because this is probably the only thing the 2.5 team accomplished.
The video below shows the powerups being used in different galaxies, enjoy.
EDIT: I apologize, until I get embed code working (I'm new to jul but have known about it for many years), you can watch the video at this link:

Nice hack. Its always interesting to see scrapped features in a game re-implemented.
Sorry to hear that the Super Mario Galaxy 2.5 project was canned. Its forum was friendly and lead to many interesting programs being created such as obj2bdl. I used it in my WW hack.
Embedding a video is a bit weird on Jul. The way I embed a video is to use the old embed code found under a youtube video. However, the video will never show up if I try to preview my reply. It only appears after I submit my reply. I kind of don't like that but I'm too lazy to actually complain about it.

Wierd. The reply preview has the same HTML code used in the actual post, just with some minor differences. When I embed a video and preview the reply the video does show up correctly. It may be a configuration error (try this in another browser).

The project was aborted because it was too ambitious. You just can't create 49 new custom galaxies without a team like Nintendo's.
However it seems that the end of the project motivated some people to make standalone levels. We'll see how that turns out...
Also, the forum is still there. It just has the SMG2.5 section archived and closed. ____________________ |

I guess it's cancelation makes sense. From my experience with WW, it certainly takes a lot of time and energy to create even a single level, let alone multiple levels. It's difficult to devote time like that.
I would still consider the project a partial success if people are able to create a few custom levels. It's good to know that the forum is still up as well. I haven't checked it out in a while.

I haven't tried embedding a video in another browser. That might fix the problem unless I am just doing something stupid when I copy the embed code from YT. I'll test embedding in another browser the next time I have a video to embed .

I very vaguely kept up with the progress on SMG 2.5 but how capable are the tools that are used for it? How "custom" can the levels/galaxies be made? I actually prefer SMG 1 > 2 because I hate the level select in 2. Is 1 as hackable as the 2nd? Compare it to the current state of SM64 hacking if you could. That'd help me understand as I have kept up with SM64 hacking directly for a long time.
