Or so is said. A couple of weeks ago I put some ROMs, a couple of emulators, and multiple other things on a flash drive, then handed it to him at school. (It's the only place we see each other right now, until gas prices drop / he gets a driver's license.) The next day he tells me that he couldn't find where he put the ROMs at. That doesn't sound right, but it's not where this thread's at, either, since I'm just telling it as it went.
Fortunately he still has the emulator, so I tell him where to find the IPS patch for the hack that so should have been played, what to patch it with, and how to go about patching it (including copying the ROM and renaming it). The next weekday, he tells me that he did all that, but when he opened it via emulator, it froze, and the ROM was deleted. Alright, WHAT. XP shouldn't do that, Snes9X shouldn't do that, viruses shouldn't be on his computer, (Norton Antivirus, I think) what the HELL.

Since I only meet him at school, there's only 4 weekdays left t solve this problem before he's stuck without Asshole(Kaizo) Mario and Mario's Adventure. Either that or he remembers to come here whenever he's home, one of the two. He's supposed to be trying to retry Mario's Adventure and get it to work over the weekend, if he does it then Fecu is fine. Otherwise, it's harder than my anti-DNS computer problem (which is still there, without me able to POST, thank you very much, anti-double-post-syste-that-lacks-a-timer), and will likely be unsolveable.

I'll relay any helpful advice to him Monday, and he should report back on Tuesday (or Wednesday, if he messes that up, or Thursday, if that and neither 3rd or 6th period can be accessed). If it doesn't go well, his only chance of getting chewed out by Bullet Bills about 70 times in a row before Jan 1 is to join up here.

Ok, I think I've talked enough. Go.

Norton sucks, but it's functional. I use it out of necessity, and never had a problem. With viruses, I mean, the program's a pain in the ass, but it does what it's supposed to do.

If you do not safely eject a flash drive, you run the risk of losing files.

So, when the emulator froze, what did he do? Did he restart the computer? Try to pull out the flash drive and try again? Has this happened again? It should just be a fluke and what I like to call, "a random act of God".

We weren't even testing for that.

No, it's not. Viruses stay undetected, while totally normal files are identified as viruses.

I don't know why I put this here.
Norton also attacks and interferes with perfectly normal applications, slowing them down or stopping them in their tracks, while the aformentioned viruses gallavant around your computer.

When there's free antivirus scanners like Avast! which perform better, why would anyone pay for Norton?

They see it on the shelf at Zellers, see it's labelled as an antivirus program, and buy it. I've seen it happen. They don't know there's anything better. Tragic, really.
