Here we go again!

Wouldn't freezone.reboot be a kind of warning sign? Anyway, wanyone who got tricked into this, I'm both sorry and not, as it's common knowledge to never trust 4chan when it comes to advice or instructions. :/

The problem is this image has been reposted virtually everywhere by now, reddit, twitter, facebook, and whatever else... At least the media is getting the word out that it's fake, but I do feel sorry for whoever spent that amount of money only to have it bricked so easily. :/

Ugh.. I meant, whoever has knowledge of how "trolling instruction images" from 4chan look like wouldn't have done it.

Still, let's try to think about it.
Wouldn't MS lose money if they had disabled "Xbox 360 games compatibility" under an hidden setting? If they had actually included 360 compatibility, it would have been aviabile directly.

A good rule of thumb is to never trust 4chan for advice. Ever.

Ignoring the fact that the image originated from 4chan, it still seems sketchy. If the "method" was actually possible and a consumer could do it that easily, why didn't Microsoft just do it in the first place? Maybe I'm wrong but I think it would be stupid for Microsoft to not do that and not advertise the console as backwards compatible.

Even if you want to disregard that as well, I would try to look for reviews of people who did it before ever attempting it to figure out issues with this "method". If anyone did that then red flags should have definitely shown.

If you fall for it, honestly, you deserve it.

Why would you buy the Xbone in the first place, nincompoops.

Because Microsoft told me it's better than the PS4. :/

Well shit, Sony said PS4 is better than Xbone. Let's settle this using the tried and true method used for generations on the internet. We troll each other saying how amazing one console is while trashing and completely disregarding all other consoles because acknowledging the existence of a decent console we don't have will make us feel like sad outcasts with a small ego and such gamers know it is better to have a large over inflated ego than to find new experiences to enjoy.

Ready, set... don't go.

Seriously, what I described above is how some gamers act and I hate people like that.

I don't play any consoles because the only consoles of mine to never break have all been Nintendo, and that's because I rarely even played them 'cause ~party games everywhere~.

I am aware in terms of "ease of setup and play" consoles win that whole argument but their stability is just as questionable as is a computer's.

And the "nincompoop" comes from them buying the first generation units, the initial releases which will be the worst, buggiest, least stable pieces of shit ever.

Oh I agree with that. I think that it is crazy to buy a new console on release or shortly afterwards. Those people are the guinea pigs to find bugs not caught during development. There can be a few bugs or there could be a lot of bugs with various intensities of frustration.

The other thing is that it is rare that launch titles for a new console are good. Consoles initially come with a limited number of games to play. Everything, the consoles and games, is overpriced. Take a look at the 3DS for example. It started out at $250 with games like Pilot Wings and Steel Diver, both of which were $40 a pop. At the present, if you take the cheapest route, you can get a 2DS for $130 and Pilot Wings for $16 or Steel Diver for $4 (off of Amazon at the moment).

With all that crap above, it is pointless to be an early adopter and the only reason you would want to is if you have money you want to burn or you want bragging rights over buying a console so early (as if anyone actually cares. Congrats on waiting at a Best Buy for 3 days to get a buggy, over priced console with limited games).

On the other hand, being an early PS3 adopter got you hardware PS2 backwards compatibility. Also, it's often easier to hack early revisions of consoles for homebrew, if you care about that sort of thing.

If homebrew's your thing, though, you can generally wait until the second revision, after the most egregious hardware bugs have been ironed out but before the security holes have been closed.

Well, maybe in the future we could see a homebrew "adapter" or software which allows playing 360 games on the Xbone.

For now, it's all a scam ( like the Xbone emulator :/ ).

While I agree that the troll instruction was indeed an evil trick,
-You might've fallen for this if you're young, naive, or got the image from someone you trust. I don't think the victims are here to blame.
-Microsoft shouldn't have made this possible, or at least made it reversible or offer some kind of consolation. I don't know if this is technically feasible, though.

A common misconception. I wholeheartedly feel that 4chan is one of the friendliest, informative and supportive communities I've been a part of. I've found countless like-minded anonymous people from small niche boards like /po/ which got me into papercraft /vr/ from where I've found several interesting new SNES games and /diy/ where I have found precious information regarding woodworking and lock picking. However, /b/ is something you should stay away from. After all, it is an 18+ board but that hardly protects the rest of the internet from its antics. It's easy to label 4chan as the root of all evil, but in all honesty, it's /b/ and only /b/.
Christopher Poole (4chan's founder) has a blog, you should check it out. This post was particularly interesting and should open up the man behind 4chan a bit. He's not evil and certainly would not approve of this.

Interesting counter points from a hacker's perspective . When you mention homebrew, it reminds me of the original DS. It seemed people were finding methods of running code on it left and right. The best part was that Nintendo couldn't patch it up so, if you could put up with it being fat, they were great for running homebrew. My only counter argument to your counter argument is that I'm not sure the average person runs homebrew.

Backwards compatibility is a nice feature to have but for it to be a selling point, I assume that the average consumer doesn't have (or is selling) whatever the previous console was. Whether that assumption is true or not, I don't know. Actually, it would be interesting to know.

Well 4chan certainly is an interesting site. No one will argue with that I think. At any rate, regardless of the origin of the photo, you would have to be numb in the head to not research into what the photo says before just going through with it.

The thing about 4chan as a whole is that there is no 4chan as a whole, each and every one board has a very different community apart from all the others. I generally regular /mlp/, and while I find /tg/ to be interesting I am not too invested in it to spend my time there too much. (Since I don't have too many opportunities to take part in such games IRL!)

The more wildly known boards are /b/ and /v/, both which in general have very hostile and cancer communities (says someone from /mlp/ hardidardidar). And I feel people are too quick in calling the place shit without ever having been there, most of the communities are kinda mellow if you ask me, if anything the problem for new users might be to get over the slang and how the community works on any one individual board.

Likewise one have to understand that 4chan boards is not the type of community that works for everyone, and it's certainly not a place I'd recommend someone to go to if they easily get offended. (Or maybe I would if I dislike them.)

The fact that it's from 4chan (and the tangent of the conversation) kind of misses the point - it boggles me that people will willingly follow instructions doing something they don't understand at all to fulfill a very unrealistic goal.

vaguely reminds me of the time when I released all of my pokemon but six magikarps to get jirachi those motherfuckers

Apparently, this is widespread enough that an article about it showed up on the BBC. Then again, so did the Cricket game...

It's not only BBC news.

Not counting the duplicate pages on Google, there are at least 15 pages full of these kind of information.
In this week, between pages to prank people and ones that warn people about that we're getting a quite big number.

And it's still growing (the maximum page number jumped up from 18 to 19 after I finished searching -- this should tell everything).
