Most of the names are based off who actually uses it, but that began diverging after me and my brother got new computers, primarily because Homestuck references.

Desktop - Nightfury. Somewhat inspired by How to Tame your Dragon
Laptop - Mi_Kasa. "Mi casa es Su kasa", i.e. a really bad pun with unfortunate implications.
Minecraft Server - Jötunheimr. A bunch of rl.net servers (and domains) all used norse mythology, so I followed suit.
Minecraft Server - Einherjar (defunct). The same.

I've named all of my computers for the past decade or so after characters from Final Fantasy VI, using the official translation with one exception.

2001 desktop - Locke - retired
2004 desktop - Shadow - retired but still functional
???? router - Tina - retired and replaced with a newer device
2009 desktop - Sabin - repurposed as a "server" machine
2010 laptop - Setzer - still sees regular use
2012 desktop - Umaro - and a beast it is. Although, technically, the current OS X installation is called "Christopher's Mac Pro" with a host name of christopherspro.lan, as I never did add this machine to the static DHCP allocation table in my router.

Whew.

I name my computers after various characters from the Touhou games.

Ghost: Desktop, named after Yuyuko.
Gardener: Laptop, named after Youmu.
SaigyouAyakashi: Router which acts as a NAS via a USB port in the back, named after the youkai cherry blossom tree that Yuyuko's body is sealed under.
Myon: Phone.

To top it off, my wifi SSID is Hakugyokurou.

Maybe I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to naming my computers. :v

I don't really name it, but I identify my desktop on Steam Share as HomuHomu. When I still had all three USB drives, I named them after the first gen Pokemon starters.

I'd probably name things more often if: A) I had the ability to, B) I had the creativity to.

Naming my systems after anime characters, usually... Boring, I know, but whatever. Currently:

Desktop: Nanami (Nanami Aoyama from Sakurasou)
Laptop: Kazari (Kazari Uiharu from Index/Railgun)
Phone: Sayaka (Sayaka Miki from Madoka Magica)
PDA: Kuroko (Kuroko Shirai, also Index/Railgun)
Test Server Thingy: Rikka (Rikka Takanashi from Chu2Koi)
PSP: Ruiko (Ruiko Saten, again Index/Railgun)

...and my wireless SSID is "Madoka-WLAN" (after, well, Madoka Kaname from Madoka Magica).

My previous laptop was named Chiri (Chiri Kitsu from Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei), and before various upgrades etc. over the last 10 years, my desktop was called Rukia (Rukia Kuchiki from Bleach), and later Kagami (Kagami Hiiragi from Lucky Star). That said, Nanami's D drive is still called Konata, of course after Konata Izumi.
