(I posted this on the Sunshine talk page, but I may as well post it here, too.)

The tiny tourist guide images included in the Map Screen contain actual English text. For example, the apparent tagline of Delfino Air Lines is "Take off the world." as seen in the image for Delfino Airstrip. The most interesting one I've found so far is the text in Pianta Village's, which says that the seemingly random gibberish that the Piantas usually utter when you talk to them is actually their way of saying "hello" and even gives the spelling for the word. They even use it elsewhere in the pamphlet (in Ricco Harbor) in the same way you'd see "Aloha" in a Hawaiian tour guide pamphlet. I can't make out all of the letters, but it seems to be spelled "Oldemasenandama".

If anyone excels at reading 3-pixel-tall text, or at least wants to give interpreting it a shot, I ripped the graphics. It's probably impossible to read most of the text, but who knows, we may be able to find something neat!

Noki Bay: The labels seem to say (in clockwise order, starting from the lower left) labyrinth, red tower, small tower, big falls, short tower.

Pinna Park: The yellow Yoshi is saying something like "Please accept my best wishes for your marriage. ?????? !"

Ricco Harbor: The Blooper looks like it's saying "We are ??????????"

So I thought I was a little crazy thinking it said that, but I looked up a few names on the credits of Super Mario Sunshine to see if I could find one that looked like the name. I found someone named Shinko Konishi, and I believe it looked like her first name (Looks more like Shinks to me, but eh). I did a bit of research on her, and come to find out, her and her husband both work at Nintendo and met while making Animal Crossing (before Sunshine) and her name changed by the next game credited to her (Windwaker, Special Thanks, after Sunshine) to Shinko Takeshita.

The husbands name was Yoshitaka Takeshita, wouldn't it be hilarious if it was being spoken by a Yoshi was because his name started with "Yoshi"? He didn't appear to be working on Sunshine from what I can tell though.

Anyone think it's possible? I was relatively sure, but then I realized this was a pretty early art dealio, and her name wasn't changed in the credits, and you figured they would have gotten married from the timespan between when the brochure was made and the game was finished, unless it was a last minute change or something... or maybe this was only added in the USA release (and others afterward) and she was already married but they left it her original last name because it was already in the JAP credits like that.

Another small thing I noticed is that the English localization team that worked on Animal Crossing (Where her and her husband met) also was the English localization team on Sunshine. So it's possible they snuck that in, I imagine, or got the okay, of course.

That's pretty cool. A developer message in a Mario game!

Could be; the shape looks pretty close to it and I can't see what else it could be. It also makes sense, given Japan's love of seafood.

I think the text underneath the Ricco Harbor logo says "The Food of Dolphic".

Also, I'm starting to have my doubts about "lovely partner". The first word looks like it ends with p, not y, and "partner" seems to have one too many letters (paartner?).

I wonder if Nintendo even has the full-size versions of these anymore (not that we'd ever get to see them)...

On that subject, I don't think I've ever seen any concept art from Sunshine. With all the interesting things they cut from this game, I feel like any concept art they show us would be highly interesting.

I wonder if anyone has ever asked them about it...
