I dunno, I find that actually super interesting, and there are much more mundane one-entry things filling up other articles on the wiki.

Thanks for sharing. Some pics would be cool

I guess I could make an article for it, but first I want to go through the other stages in case I find anything else interesting. Unlike with Galaxy, the DKJB team did a superb job in naming the files and removing the unused ones. Another interesting thing is that the model names here vary slightly from the same exact models present in Galaxy. Now, unless I'm mistaken, this shows that they may have intended to use some of those models in some way! They already reused the Note Fairy and springy creeper flower.

Just a heads up - On The Smurfs (both Genesis and SNES), it lists the Stork and River levels as 'Unused'. Actually, both levels are fully accessible through normal play - You need to collect a certain amount of stars in order to reach one of them (and upon collecting the same amount of stars a second time, you'll be thrown into the other one).

Do you know how many stars you need? I added those levels because I found no info about them being used. My French is pretty awful so I may have missed a cheat listing somewhere.

I'm pretty sure it's 25 (so 50 stars to experience both) - From what I remember, you normally end up in the River level first (at least, that's the one I kept getting first) and then the Stork level after.

I can't edit Peardian's talk page for some reason.

I just get a blank page (with blank source code when I right click -> view source code, in google chrome).

Odd, because I've been receiving e-mails as if you successfully edited it, but the links they provide lead to non-existent changes.

Just send me a PM if it's important.

Something is interfering with edits to pages with colons in the title. It previously affected The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, though both of them seem to be editable now.

I really don't know what the deal is, because previewing works just fine, and it's hard to debug the problem when there's not so much as an error code returned (which AFAIK can be resolved by changing a configuration option somewhere). This version of MediaWiki is just loaded with fun little quirks and bugs, it seems.

Just a heads up:

If you used the keyboard to submit edits and got annoyed by a "Publish" dialog showing up when you pressed Enter on the edit page, go to your User Preferences, Editing tab, and uncheck the "Enable step-by-step publishing" checkbox at the bottom. This annoyed me to no end and the first few times I checked the preferences I didn't see this option

What is our standing on a game artist wanting something removed from the site which was found in an arcade chd file of a game he worked on 15 years ago? Said artist was contacted in light of the discovery to see if he would provide more info (which he did) on the content found, but said that one of the images was an in-house joke that was not meant to be public (as most if not all of the content found on this site is), and he preferred it wasn't made public. The game in question would be CarnEvil, and the image would be the last (I love Italian). I don't see anything wrong with the image itself (maybe I'm missing the point), and it doesn't exactly single out anyone specifically by name (I'm sure this guy made it picking on another member of the team, or something to that effect), so I would assume this is fair game correct?

The way I look at it, if you didn't want it made public, then why release it to the public (on several hard drives throughout the USA)? It seems that we shouldn't have to censor the site at the request of someone that knowingly left offensive/personal material in the game (that they had to know would be uncovered by someone eventually). Let me know your thoughts and what action (if any) should be taken.

No one who played the game would ever see it, so he felt it was safe to use it as padding.

As for the picture... that's Jeffrey Dahmer. See here. I have no idea who the head in the bag is supposed to be. Never mind, I figured it out - that's Neil Nicastro. He was an executive producer for the game, and was the CEO of WMS and Midway until 2003. He resigned in 2004 after Sumner Redstone became a majority stockholder of the company.(Source)

... no wonder he's a little bit... uh, uncomfortable about the photo.

This is actually a really good question. We already have some precedent for this (there's a game that we haven't put up the info for because the unused text contains the dude's SSN), but... at the same time just vaguely "it might get me in trouble" stuff like this... I dunno.

I'm leaning towards no because it could set a really bad standard in the future (who says other people won't want their stuff removed?) and it's not terribly hard to access if you know what you're doing... Eh.

It isn't that important to me. If i found it i'd post it. If it had Personal information you could just Black it out and explain why or something.
If we take down something like that it may encourage others to want things taken down. I'm also sure whoever found the pic would not want it taken down because otherwise they've wasted their time for nothing.
P.s. If this doesn't make much sense it because i'm tired.

What's the stance on adding things from source code? Jaguar Doom has an alternate block of end text (that ended up being used in the PSX version), but it doesn't look like it was compiled into the ROM.

There are things in the PC Doom source, too, like plans to have half-assed sliding doors (probably for the Wolfenstein levels) via animated textures on two-sided lines. The article mentions Automap Asteroids, which wasn't even developed, so I assume it's cool to add this stuff?

Edit: Another thing, what about content that isn't in a shipped game, but has been released by the developers? Like John Romero's original Quake E2M6 start?

I assume file size is for the uncompressed ROM's filesize?

I added this Famiclone plug & play console recently & I've also come across some unused stuff in a couple of the games on it - I'm now wondering if I should give each game its own page, or list them all on the console's page the way, say, Action 52 is done?

The problem with the latter option is that these types of things aren't anywhere near as straightforward as Action 52, where all the games exist solely as part of Action 52; the DreamGear's games are basically standalone entities which were (& still are) mixed and matched by manufacturers in hundreds of different combinations. So it wouldn't really make sense (to me anyway) to list the games on the DreamGear's page when it's entirely possible that one or more other consoles may be listed later containing some of the same games with the exact same unused content.

so maybe I could give each game a separate page, but have the platform as something like "NES Plug & Play" & then make that a subcategory of "Unlicensed NES" (so as not to clutter up the latter category with stuff lots of people likely don't care about all that much) .. Or maybe I could just have one big page for all of them, or a page per developer, or something like that. any thoughts?

I just tried looking inside Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour to see if I could find anything. The structure inside is a nightmare. It's even worse than how Metroid: Other M organizes its files. Every single file and directory is simply labeled with a single letter from A-Z, in directories labeled A-Z. Everything seems compressed as well, as I couldn't find any text in any of them.

I've got a question: I've been working on the Super Street Fighter II Turbo article and am wondering whether it's worth noting that dizzied sprites for Akuma don't exist at all in the data. He can't be dizzied (because he's a hidden super boss and such), but since he's just a Ryu/Ken headswap, and the game data does contain a few sprites of his that correspond to Ryu and Ken sprites but end up going unused, it would seem reasonable that he actually had dizzied sprites in the data that just went unused. However, they simply don't exist, and that surprised me. But I'm not sure whether this sort of "you might expect there to be something unused here, but there actually isn't" thing is really worth noting or not.
