WARNING: Wall of text ahead. You have been warned.
Took some hours to play the various ports of the first Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-Move.
I usually take three things in consideration:
- Collision detection of bubbles
- How the pointer is fast and how it looks
- Game speed
I usually take these three things in consideration more than the extra modes.
The arcade version is just great. It's not too hard, and set my standard on how the collision detection should be and how the pointer moves and looks. This one got a 4.5
In the SNES version the collision detection is slightly wrong (which makes the game harder than it should), and the game feels slower, but the level design makes up for it, and you can use L and R to move the pointer by one pixel.
Nice additions of the VS CPU and Challenge modes. Rating : 4
The Windows version is like the SNES version, except for Redbook music, arcade version graphics, 120 levels instead of 100, and swaps VS CPU for Netplay. The controls and collision detection are just as good as the arcade version. Controls can be configured for both players (both keyboard or gamepad can be used). I gave this 4.25
Next, I tried the (Homebrew) DOS version. Not configurable controls yay.
It's like the SNES version, but not as good. It's not as bad as the Game Gear version either, but there are some things quite off here (no extra buttons to move the pointer slower, the pointer moves a lot faster - unless you change the cycles in DOSBox, said keyboard controls and music that can give an headache).
At least the collision detection looks okay and the game is playable. For a homebrew game it's good one (too bad I compare everything to the arcade version). Rated 3.5
Then, at the botton of the pile there is the Game Gear version. Let's just say I don't like this "port" very much.
The pointer looks horrible and it's not clear where it points to. You have to play the guessing game to judge where the bubble will go (great way to make the game difficult). When I first played this version I was confused by this, but even after I managed to know where it points to I sometimes still shoot where I don't want to. Wonderful for the final boss, or anywhere else (especially for the VS CPU mode, where there is no time to waste). Even the second game on the monochrome Game Boy had a less confusing pointer and generally looked better (the GB version is actually good and playable considering the GB limitations).
The game also feels horribly slow and laggy.
The collision detection is actually good, but it's ruined by that pointer.
I don't count things like graphics and music (they are both okay), the gameplay is the problem here.
There was simply no excuse for this. The engine this version runs on simply sucks. This one gets "NaN".
Anyway I beat the first arcade game and (after much screaming and kicking) the SNES "port" (this one is hard and I got the bad ending ), as any other version is almost the same or worse (and that I'm lazy ). |

I'm currently playing "Internet Browser" for the 3DS. Anyone ever heard of it?
It's a fantastic game. I'm able to log in to the game via Jul and post Jul comments whilst playing the game!

A classic... Super Mario World.
Managed to get the 96 exits. I still remember how I had to rush through the final level - and I finished it with mere 3 seconds left in the timer.
In reality, it wasn't too bad, but I'm still used to the Wario Land games and controls (ie. absolute 0 momentum, istant turn etc...)
Now it's time to torture myself with some stupid hard SMW hacks... maybe... |

Devil Survivor 2.
Got the Restorer and Liberator endings and killed all the optional bosses. The hilarious thing was that I wasn't even going for Restorer when I was playing at first. I originally intended to do Meritorious but then I noticed that around Day... 4 or 5 it seemed like it could be possible for me to get everyone that matters up to Fate 4, so... Yeah. It was somethin'.
Kinda incredibly easy tho but that's because almost nobody ever Reflects phys and Multi-Strike is the most hilarious bullshit. I think there's only one boss that could provide a feasible challenge and even then it'd be more tedious than anything else.

Playing Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix.
It's a weird experience. I cannot fathom how I could like KH1 when I was young, because the game is kind of eh, but on the other hand all the added things in Final Mix makes me excite to see what new things I get.
Weird.
When I'm done with this I'll just go for Re:CoM.

Sonic 3D Blast (technically the Super Sonic 3D no Flickies hack, does this count as cheating? ).
After much kicking and screaming I finally played this game. Now I wish I didn't.
The list of problems this game has is more than a mile long.

I would be playing Terraria 1.2, but it still won't work for me. Leading theory is that it's due to the dual graphics card setup, as everyone else with that issue on TerrariaOnline has a similar setup.
So instead, I'm playing a bunch of other games at random, to pass time until Windwaker HD tomorrow (wanted a physical copy instead)
I also recently finished a playthrough of Ludmeister's Dawn of Souls hack, specifically the FF1 portion. Party was Paladin/Ranger/Ninja/Battlemage... it occurred to me at roughly Melmond that I was somewhat lacking in support magic. Turns out I didn't much need it, the old classic "stab it until it stops moving" strategy carried me through until Haste and Enchant, at which point it became "buff up and stab it until it stops moving". |

Just started to play the first Crash Bandicoot (PS1) for the first time. It looks good, controls are intuitive, and I have no general problems whatsoever...
They say it's the hardest of the Crash Bandicoot games on the PS1, and it shows.
The game is pretty generous at least (for now). |

In those glorious times that I'm at home, Far Cry 3. It's a pretty good game, though frustrating when an outpost alarm is triggered and you lose all the extra XP for it because a bloody leopard wandered in.

Still can't play Terraria even after three patches. More recently playing Disgaea D2, Wind Waker HD, and waiting for Pokemon. Also the occasional game of Not Tetris.
Edit: Now can play Terraria. Spent most of the day doing so.
If anyone has an issue with it crashing, and is on a laptop with an Nvidia card, disable frameskip and set graphics quality to High (or possibly anything other than Auto). Possibly need to run it fullscreen. |

aaaaand Crash Bandicoot is done.
It sure was challenging, especially when you have to rely on the shadow to see where you'll land.
I didn't bother with 100% as I'm not ready for it yet (and I'm too lazy to see a FAQ).
I'll play this game for a bit of time... no wait, I won't.
I hate myself, so I'll play a frustrating game of Neverball instead. |

Finished getting all the Stop 'N' Swop items in Banjo-Kazooie, getting ready to transfer them over to Tooie. :3
I dimly remember something about a game coming out today, but I don't quite remember what it was...

I'll instead let this screenshot speak for itself.

I have mentioned this in another thread... I'm still playing Plants vs. Zombies 2 on my iPad.
Only one word to describe this game: Challenging
The zombies are faster and take more hits... they took eight hits in the first game, now ten. Not much, but it does make a difference though. |
