No, a shared library may only be accessed by one user at a time.

I can see this being a huge issue with actual family sharing. Especially with families with 3+ people wanting to play games at the same time; I hope they change this to per-game sharing and just offset the number of authorized devices or something. I don't know.

This would be great if it didn't completely take away your entire library while someone else used it.

At least that is what it seems like.

You can start playing whenever, but someone using your games will get booted out, if I remember it right.

Yeah, it's basically useless for 99% of all situations.

I wouldn't say that. Case in point, I can share out my huge library (that I rarely if ever actually play), especially while I'm at work and not using it.

Does it fit for everyone, no, but I certainly see some areas it'd be useful.

It's great for sharing with people not in your time zone! !

However, the main problem with this is that people you share with will most likely be people you will want to play WITH, which is impossible with this. :v

Does that mean if I'm in the middle of a game and someone else signs into the shared library, I'll get kicked out of the game?

If you are the owner of the game library, they can't play until you are done. If they are the owner, they can kick you out of the game, leaving you with five minutes to either buy the game or exit out. If both of you are sharing a library and you are playing a game, you are using the library and nobody else but the owner can play it.

I can see it benefiting those that share PCs but... this seems pointless to me unless I'm actually away from my PC for an extended amount of time. I wouldn't be able to play my 780+ game library without kicking someone else off of it if I let them try out a game. Kind of sucks I can't be selective and be like "Yeah sure you can try out this game I never play anymore while I'm able to play this game I'm always playing" but instead limit what I can play or prevent them from playing altogether.

Potentially, I think this can be pretty handy for me.

My partner and sister use steam fairly selectively and I don't get much time to play my library, so it makes sense that I could let them use it when I'm not.

So, this has been out for a while, and it's working fairly well. It turns out that if you set Steam to offline mode, you can play games, shared or your own, without having to worry about booting somebody off or getting booted off yourself. Naturally, this means that online features will be disabled, but for single-player games, it's very nice.

Anyway, I'd be willing to share my games with the fine folks of Jul, so let me know if anybody wants to try it out.

is it like, officially out now?

I was in the early beta
and wasn't aware everybody had access to it yet

it's pretty great

except where the games are per computer and not account
and you have to login to that computer to approve it

unless if that's been changed cause I'm kinda hoping

It's not officially out, but anybody can join the beta and get access relatively quickly now.
