Welcome to my humble abode of a thread. Please, take a seat on the plush sofa, whilst I get you a coffee. You want sugar you say? Very well, one lump or two? THREE?!? Fine, here you go. Drink up, whilst I tell you my (in?) genius idea for this board.

Now then, I've been digging through the trash, wondering if I would find anything interesting, when I had come across quite a few banned users with their thread(s) in the trash. Some would repetitively make one post after another with useless junk, and judging from dates/times shown above their posts, it seemed as if they were testing to see how many spamposts they could make before they get banned.
So basically, our problem here is that people keep clogging up subforums with spammy threads, so then the admins have a hard time banning the user, then moving all of his/her posts and threads to the trash, but I've thought up some sort of filter that you could put onto the site. My suggestion is that when someone makes a post, they are not able to post again for a couple of minutes. This is to avoid situations like someone repetitively making spamposts, and that admins have the chance to ban the user before they have the chance to destroy the forum.
Or if you're unable to implement that filter, you could always add a feature for mods and admins to move multiple threads at once!

That's all I have to say. I hope you've been listening well. Now, would you like another cuppa?

Thanks for your concern, but I prefer tea.

Regarding your ideas, I have two points to make:
  • There is, in fact, already a limiter in place! I believe you it blocks you from making new threads until a minute has passed after having made one.
  • There have never been any post limiters on Acmlmboards due to the tradition of sprees. Mostly a thing of the past now, but people used to rack up over 200 posts in 24 hours somewhat easily during those times.

Anyway, usually an admin or couple won't have a problem cleaning up after a spammer, and given how rare such occurrences are, it isn't presently much of an issue.

Surprise.

So basically, our problem here is that people keep clogging up subforums with spammy threads, so then the admins have a hard time banning the user, then moving all of his/her posts and threads to the trash

Banning users is easy (profile > edit user > powerlevel: banned). Removing all their threads is also easy (UPDATE threads SET forum = {trash} WHERE user = {user}). I can do it all in about five minutes or less if I've already got something open.

My suggestion is that when someone makes a post, they are not able to post again for a couple of minutes.

The problem doesn't really crop up outside of people who knowingly abuse it (and it makes the abuse more obvious when it happens). There are some cases where making more than one post in a short period of time is worth it.

This is to avoid situations like someone repetively making spamposts, and that admins have the chance to ban the user before they have the chance to destroy the forum.

See above, mostly.

Or if you're unable to implement that filter, you could always add a feature for mods and admins to move multiple threads at once!

Database access

(this would be a good example of where posting twice might be better)

I think this was removed, actually.

There have never been any post limiters on Acmlmboards due to the tradition of sprees.

Also not true! There were three (no double-posting ever, a cap of X replies in a thread per 24 hours, and a special lower cap of 5 posts per day in threads with 'ACS' in the name).

Most of these were removed, though. There's just no point; abuse is rare.

Acmlmboard trivia: Way back in the day (2001-2002) you could trigger actions on the board by URLs; register_globals was used in all cases. It was pretty trivial to flood offshoots of 1.8 (the last "release" for years) by just making image links to things, like register.php or posts.

Needless to say most of this is fixed now
