Still less ugly than the "I spent lots of money on games I'll never play for a TF2 hat" hat.

They should make this instead:

It isn't THAT bad.

Also apparently they are working on promos for Big Band now. That's cool.

Today is the day TF2 is updated to use the new Steampipe file system, meaning it is going to load faster and run better, but at the expense of having to practically redownload the entire game.
EDIT: Ok, maybe not redownload the entire game, but it'll take 20-30 minutes to convert the files and then you'll have to download some extras, although for me it is apparently 6.4gb total. You can opt in the beta before it goes live so you have the correct filesystem right away and can update immediately.

There is going to be something else added as well, given that Robocrates have been dropping in the past week.

So I wasn't losing my mind when I kept noticing TF2 loaded like a giant cube of lead being shoved up a hill? Makes sense...

Only 6 GB? Interesting, as the base assets usually take up 11 GB for me. Quicker load times will definitely be great.

Too bad I haven't had a chance to play since Halloween.

Ooh, that sounds good.

As TF2 has grown over the years the load times have become ridiculous.

Now to wait until I have quota again so it can redownload things at faster than dialup. :|

The update cut down on TF2's startup time for me from 30-60 seconds to FIVE seconds. It's crazy. The game runs a bit better too.

I was also able to get rid of 4 GB of duplicate files from my idling accounts.

The Steampipe update really helps. Loading the game is quick now (no "Steam is loading TF2..." prompt except for like a split second) and loading times initially for maps and such are much quicker.

Still have no idea what the next update is.

Robocrate descriptions were updated yesterday, stating that there are unusual effects you can only get through those crates.

I wonder what the hell is even in them. We haven't had any kind of speculation beyond these and the Lecture Valley thing this whole time.

there's a decent amount of speculation
it will include items from the community update
- the Robotic Boogaloo -

if you don't have a facepunch account
you can view a gallery of it here

(I indirectly concepted that head magnet)

And of course it was the Robotic Boogaloo update which did nothing but add in 57 hats.

That's a pretty insane amount of work the community did. The site, video, hats, everything. Already got 31 of the new hats and stuff, about to be 32. Might end it there.

Speaking of useless crap, anyone have a spare Heavy TF2 card around? I have several repeated demo, scout and sniper cards.

So I'm guessing the way to make your character look like a robot is contained in those robocrates. Every "robot" I've asked has given me mixed answers ranging from "it's a secret to everybody" to "it's a server mod" to "I am not the droid you're looking for".

Asked the server admin of the server I use whether it is a server mod and he said no.

Uh... no? It is only server mods that make you a bot. Valve couldn't make bot skins for players as the robot models don't have proper bodygroups to equip all the hats and such without major clipping (moreso than usual).

Pretty bad.

Yep, saw that there, but Valve probably won't implement anything of the sort officially.

A shame, really. I've been messing with custom MvM missions and I have to restrict myself if I want to stay with the standard Valve models. They really need to fix them up so everything works right, especially now that the Robotic Boogaloo hats are in and would be perfect to equip on each of the robots.

Recent blog posts have been mentioning a huge update with TWO NEW MAPS, tweaks of older maps (fixing exploits and such), and loads of weapon rebalances. Weapon sets that involve hats are going to be reworked, some weapons will be buffed (such as the Battalion's Backup) and some weapons will be nerfed (such as the Dead Ringer).

This is going to be a pretty huge update to the game. One that is definitely needed.

this is really starting to look like it could be one of the best updates

all it needs now is a weapon or too (hello pyro leafblower)
and some high quality cosmetics thrown in the mix and it'll have everything

I might have a reason to actually play the game again if they fix the fact that seemingly, it's a neverending arms race and newer guns usually outpace anything I happen to have. X_X

Given the levels of the Claim Tickets that are dropping, there is speculation that each level represents a specific crate for a specific class or something, meaning we may get a lot more than just weapon and map balances with some hats thrown in.

I'm hoping it'll add more MvM as well. That'll keep it going longer and with the new weapon fixes, it might make for some fun new strategies. I can see the Battalion's Backup being useful for Broken Parts at least.
