That's \PROGBIN\R3_ST1E.BIN inside the ST1E.BIN archive to be exact, and at 246kb much bigger than the original (well, PAL) PSX version's 42kb. Interesting to read through, too... wish Capcom had pulled a Konami and included the whole source code, tho, would make understanding the game a lot easier

Anyone seen this before?

Awesome! I've never seen this mentioned anywhere, I believe you're the first one to unearth it.

Also, I can confirm it works in the overseas version.

Galador not only has a very informative and nice debug menu, but I also found a test LEGO level!

Appears I've found a Pokemon Crystal revision difference. In "unused" content no less.

English 1.1 messed up the background image for Mobile Stadium (disabled outside Japan), as with non-English European versions.
Compare using Gameshark code 010576CF.

Edit: Better code enables both Mobile and Mobile stadium.
Googling it had interestingly off-topic results, let's just say...

In the so called "special edition" of Tonic Trouble (did anyone else play this?) there's clearly an empty region on the world map, as such:

Normally, this would be the end of it, but turns out, there's actually a missing stage that's programmed to appear there! If you go to 00D42C4E and change FFFF to 0000, the secret is revealed:

Unfortunately, the actual model used is only a placeholder. It's just a narrow pyramid poking through a white quad.

It's programmed to display a total of 0 items, and given its position in the map, it would seem like it was intended to be an early stage, perhaps before you free the Doc. Then again, the Doc clearly states that the only way to defeat Grögh is to "send you flying directly into the city", and there's nothing resembling a city in the game.

Space Invaders (Japan) Game Boy has several unused graphics including a The End message and a coffee cup!

I remember getting a Coffe Break screen with that cup, so it's definately not unused. Not sure about the "The end" message, but kinda rings a bell too.

Good to know. That coffee cup is a really weird thing to have in Space Invaders.

IIRC "coffee breaks" were common in arcade games at the time Space Invaders was originally released; I'm not sure if Space Invaders itself has one, but eh

A big example being the Pac-Man series.

Don't recall if Space Invaders had one though, but I am not that familiar with the Arcade version, being mainly familiar with the GB, SGB, and SNES versions.

So created a page for Nightmare Circus on the Genesis after finding a playthrough on youtube, and found some interesting bits on the guy's playthrough comments:

You want the codes after you enter Z,A,DOWN,DOWN,A,MODE,B,A,Z,Z,A,RIGHT? Well, here you go. You will get confirmation after you enter them. I will leave it to you to discover what they do. I'm honestly not sure at the moment, so feel free to test them.

1. BLOODTHIRSTY

2. ALLAVAILABLE

3. SPIRITSHADOW

4. INFINITEIPSI

5. LITTLEPUPPET

6. FASHIONSENSE

7. THELASTLAUGH

8. TOTALCONTROL

9. INDIAN SWAMP - I did not get a confirmation with this one, but it is one of the codes listed among the others

THELASTLAUGH and TOTALCONTROL are definitely related to the debug options. BLOODTHIRSTY has the player spurt blood when his, while FASHIONSENSE breaks the game's color palette. The last one is most interesting though, as the game doesn't seem to register it even though it's in the same lineup as the rest. Anyone up for taking a gander?

This may seem obvious, but did you try it without the space?

Yep, both with it short at the beginning and at the end, and cycling through the letters for the remaining slot afterwards to see if any made it valid (with this game at least, if you do set up a correct password it'll show the password on the screen below it).

EDIT: Did a little more looking into it. The passwords are stored in a plain text format within the rom, and can be modified (changing SPIRITSHADOW to SPIRITSHADOA will cause the game to look for that one instead). I tried changing the space to an A (and it does seem to be a space, chr 20), and still no go: the game doesn't seem to check for this password any longer.

I'll take a look later and see what the password check code is doing. I wonder if there's an off-by-one error that's causing this last password not to be checked... (assuming it is the last password in the ROM)

I recall hearing that the password is indeed not used in the game. In fact, I recall having heard rumors that the game actually wasn't finished and was released as-is (which explains why it's so horribly unbalanced and such), so I wouldn't be surprised if what happened is that they didn't even get around implementing the password in the first place.

That would also mean that there should be lots of leftover stuff in the ROM...

Either that or the leftovers never got shipped.

Isn't the Brazilian "final version" exactly the same as the known US prototype?
