That's true. I'll admit that I wasn't too fond of her over S2's episodes (the hostile that was Chrysalis didn't help much either (sorry Chrysalis fans)), but by the time S3 kicked on I had a lit bit more fond of her, and it did end up rising to the point where when she was mentioned in S3E11 I was like "Oh boy, Cadence gets to show up!". And then she didn't. (Giving her screentime probably would have undermined the rest of the episode if that happened, though) ____________________

While the two parter at the start and end of season 3 and 2 are good episodes... I really don't think they ever handled shining armour and Cadence in a good way.
Keep in mind how little we have actually seen of Cadence overall we really don't even get a firm grasp of her as an character. During the wedding we don't see her for most of the episode at all; Not to mention what little we do see of her really does not help build character a whole lot either. In season 3 she is, well, not really on screen that much and when she was she did not say much. Shining armour on the other hand had a huge uphill battle from the very start; Being Twilights brother coming out from freaking nowhere and then explaining it in a good manner. Let's ignore that they pretty much hand waved that issue, since, I feel that all in all, that's just a small problem compared to the rest. If we are to take a step back and look... what do we really know about his characteristics? He's a good brother? His talent is protecting stuff? Uh... what else? Mind you, there is more to him if you dig deeper, but hardly much. Unlike Cadence he actually got a whole lot more screen time and speaking lines. (Chrysalis lines don't count towards Cadence, as should be obvious.) So there is less excuse for him not showing more of his characteristics. And the question that lingers for me is... will he ever? They could have introduced an interesting sub plot related to him and sombra when he got left behind at the start of S3E1; But nope, he showed up right away anyway and that minor inconvenience was solved at the end of the episode. And let's not forget the hilarity in how they even undermine each other! Shining armour who's special talent is protective spells and have been working as head of the royal guard (Oh look, a marry sue trait!) for, well, at least a few years we can assume? Yeah, well, in S2 final he is handling the shield in canterlot being the only one able to do so; Which makes perfect sense in pony lore that being his special talent. Then comes S3E1 and bam, no, he is not good enough and apparently Cadence have to uphold this shield since she is stronger! One word: What. The implications of this is that she can do the shield spell better then someone who has it as their special talent simply due to being a princess... HOWEVER, if that was the case then why did not Celestia, Luna, or her (well we know why she would not.) help with the spell in the S2 final? Given their situation they would most likely want their head of security in tip top shape for the looming threat so it would have made more sense for them to cycle the duty. (Or at least provide a reasoning why they could not, if so.) And while I still think Cadence and Shining armour can be great characters: They have not really shown to be that so far, in fact, they have mostly shown marry sue traits. :v But I'm getting off topic here! :> So, about that Twilight alicorn... I think it's a bad move in general, although, understand able. From what I have gathered this was a move purely by Hasbro that the studio could not do anything about, and as far as I have gathered, they are not too happy about it either. But I have a hard time seeing how they could work it into the plot without fucking up a ton of already established facts as well as ruining other things. :v I'll wait and see what they do with it though. ____________________ 2013 is here! :< |

Not casting any judgment on a certain new alicorn princess till I see the episode. I hated the fact that Shining Armor and Candace got introduced with no forewarning and being an obvious market shoe in, but they grew on me and now I can't see a new episode without them. I'll just state this now, it's not specifically that Chrysalis pretending to be Cadence drove down my appreciation for Cadence, it's that Chrysalis's notority and hostility drove down the episodes' overall for me, and since Cadence was only ever involved in those episodes at the time, she was, by extention, also less appreciated. Also doesn't help when they keep introducing other new characters (Babs) or a side of characters that hasn't had a chance to show up before (half the Apple family). Stir the same stew, everything mixes some more. Add ingredients, certain flavors start to become unnoticeable. If that makes any sense. They've gone with and against the flow of things the fans have come up with, if you're trying to refer to that. Odds are the storyboard writers/directors know exactly how many ways it could go wrong, and will be trying their best to make as much sense out of this surprise-custom-order sandwich Hasbro's executives ordered. ...that probably could have been worded that better, but you get the idea. And now a completely unrelated question! DJ-PON3 and Octavia, two very different musicians, one stealing fame from D3ADMAU5 and another petering on the edge of Beethoven popularity (or so I think they're doing). In having to vote for one or the other, where would you stand? (Just trying to drum up a little discussion, if I can. Oh, and also maybe the title could stand a change?) ____________________

Fanimations watched: 1 Once more proving I can't really take the sad stuff, the episode held a constant tone of it throughout. Even as it seemed like it began to turn to a happier tone, a jump-cut turns it into sorrow once more. Bringing the hardships of one into the light of many, it's pretty hard not to feel sad for Snowdrop. A fine episode, if you're alright with semi-tragic endings. Also I can't get over the permanency the ending somehow brought up. Don't know why. ____________________

So, this just came out. The more I think about the whole EG thing tough, the more I feel like it's chanceworthy. I'm still not sure it'll be any good, if they are making them live in "modern" school's society, that's generally a death sentence for quality. But I guess I may give the first EP a watch, if it is ever done.
