I and some friends are currently working on a Team Hack. There isn't much to show but some screenshots, SPC's and a Video is enough for the beginning:

The level "Projectile Panic" made by Boing. I changed it a little bit.

Holy shit that is awesome. Those graphics are phenomenal. The music is sweet. The new enemies are incredible. How the hell did you do all that? I really gotta get updated on all these crazy SMW zaniness. I still haven't figured out how to add custom graphics to SMW without destroying my rom. (Damn you EXGFX!!)

Its like you completely added new enemy types with new behaviors. (Those YI piranhas and plant spewing blocks) The purely percussion instruments are perfect. Say that 3 times fast


I hope you guys finish this, community projects tend to have a 99% failure rate. *knocks on wood*

AlexAR needs to read the lunar magic help file!

It does look good however (can't see the video) and you seem to have advoided all the stupid mistakes. Common things like Mario's name getting palleted' attacked.

I must have read the help file 30 times total from top to bottom. It sure seems simple enough, but it just wont do it...lol I have had an easier time changing the GFX on numerous other games without dedicated game editors...go figure.

Interestingly enough, every tutorial and/or forum post explaining the subject seems to have been typed by 4-year olds. No offense to any 4 year olds who frequent this forum, but I just cant get passed sentences like: (Taken from a GFXut written by who knows..)

"...Don't change FG1 and FG2, these are some of the main Graphics from the game, its better to don´t change it the beginning But you can change BG1 and BG2. In this example, choose 80,81, this were new ExGFX-files. Now press OK. The graphic in that level will screw up, because you have no new Graphics inserted. For that, need now the "Tile Layer Pro"."

Definitely looks like a superior SMW hack already from what I'm seeing. Hopefully there's a lot more SMW2 or other game gimmicks that you guys continue to pull. I'd be interested in seeing how this game turns out.

Wow, this looks really good. The level looks nice and fun, although it might benefit to change the graphics of some sprites, like the spitting pirahna and the block flower (if possible) just so they all match the style.

This looks really good so far. Just let it be known, however, that I wasn't a fan of that Projectile Panic song. It sounded like a really generic FL Studio song. No offense to anyone, but it was horribly dull.

The Halberd SPC is great though.

Anyway, yeah, looks pretty good. Uh, the only complaint I have is the egg plant shooting blue blocks. They just seem to serve no purpose and constantly break one another, though I guess you really don't have an alternative. Ah well.

We want to add many ExGFX. smwedit made the YI Rollingflower by using the rotation feature (or whatever) from SMW to make him rotate like using the Super FX. He's currently working on the YI Wild Plant.

We try to recolor everything so they match the style but it isn't that easy because we haven't a draw-artist. Maybe a good drawer want to join our Team? We really would appreciate that.

Thanks, how S.N.N. mentioned, it is a real, CUSTOM!!!, made song by spigmike. Not everyone likes all songs but I think, it fits very well. If we find a better Jungle song, we replace the current one.

It isn't the same colors, fire Mario is orange but it can't be seen good on the video because the video isn't high quality. ^^

Thanks. Maybe we change the flower so it just can spawn one throw block and can't spit more until the one dissapears from the screen. However, it is funny when you stand above them and they spit the blocks.

I haven't seen many team hacks actually work out, but this one seems to be coming out quite well. Icegoom's graphics are being used properly without any glitches, and the level design seems to be quite solid, albeit the level looks a bit tough. Not ridiculously hard though, that looks like that would be a good moderately difficult stage. The use of custom sprites is also nice, especially the ones from YI.

Keep it up, hope it all works out and you can all pull off something great.

Honestly, I'll have to join the group that wasn't too thrilled with the jungle theme, it sounds pretty bland to me. The conversion of the halberd was absolutely perfect though. The level itself looks good, and the graphics, work well. Overall, it looks like it'll come out great, but really, jungle music.

Barring that, it's simplistic yet artful. I like it.

As I said, I haven't really worked with 65816, but I've seen some examples of it. It makes plenty of sense, but it's not going to be fun learning to work with registers that don't share capabilities. It'll just be an extra challenge I guess. It could end up adding to the fun rather than subtracting from it once I get the hang of it. I love programming and I love being good at stuff. :3

As for examples, I guess this video is the closest thing I've done to a serious game mechanic overhaul, and the hack is incomplete not just graphically, but in terms of nerfing the weapons to be less broken:

Some of those weapons were already in the game, others were forged out of ASM edits and unused or differently used graphics, and all are made accessible by pressing buttons that previously would do nothing. I've added a few new "skills" to Fire Emblem 8 (GBA game; no videos this time) in a buggy patch I released back on Board 2; that hack cost me a week of hand assembling around 500 lines of Thumb assembly.

So, yeah, I've got this down pretty well.
