Apparently someone did, as I just bought it for five bucks. Gee, wonder why it failed... it couldn't have had anything to do with the touchscreen sucking out loud, could it? At least it came with a game (emphasis on a) so I could learn this, but hey, it's something else for the collection.

Anyone else own one of these abortions?

No, though its screen being black and white over 5 years after Game Gear came out was likely an issue. The original Japanese model Neo Geo Pocket did that also.

USELESS TRIVIA: the Game.com's screen was only 1-bit. However, the refresh rate was so horrible that games could simulate grey shades by flickering dot patterns really fast.

What the hell were their hardware developers smoking?

Actually, I've heard that works on the Game Boy too, but it was never designed for it.

Now, it's not even simply a matter of the lines being split up into four streams, there's more to it! The screen data is fetched in packets of 40 pixel wide interlaced images, five in total (40 * 5 = 200 pixels in screen width).

The next complication is that rather than drawing lines left to right, progressing from the top of the screen to the bottom, as standard monitors, TVs, and LCDs do, this draws lines from the top to the bottom, progressing from the right of the screen to the left!
